Well after 33 years as an ATC Specialist/Airspace Manager for the R-2508 Complex at Edwards AFB I am calling it quits in California.

3 April 2017 should be my retirement date.

My NICU nurse girlfriend should be retiring soon as well.

The Girlfriend and I are selling both of our houses in Lancaster, paid off I might add, and make the trek to our Hallett Dave Headquarters home in Mohave Valley, AZ.

The plan is with the sale of our AV homes we will pay off the mortgage at the new Hallett Dave Headquarters.

I have a few quotes for moving my household goods to AZ but I am asking the RDP inmate brain trust if anyone has any hook-ups or recommendations for a trustworthy moving company.

I have a lot of family heirlooms and I want to insure that all my belongings make the move and get there safely.

Oh, the 2,300 sq. ft. house is on an acre and the 3 garages total almost 2,400 sq. ft. We are less than a mile from the River.

Thanks for any and all recommendations.

I just moved to Dallas, my company paid for our move. They contracted with an outfit out of Corona. The guys packed everything and were pretty good, I'm happy to give you the owner/op's number if you want.

Send me a PM if you're interested. I dunno if he goes all the way to Lancaster, but all of his business is moving folks out of CA and mostly to Texas.

I have a '77 Hallett Mini Cruiser jet that is pretty sweet and a 1967 GTO that is a fun ride.
If you plan on being in our neighborhood please give us a call.
You have my contact info.

Ive moved several times in the last few years and have used two men in a truck as movers and been very satisfied. I did the Pods deal for actually transporting the stuff and the movers to pack/unload everything.

Congats on the retirement!

No reason now to not see HD at the RDP off road events.
You can still get Keystone Light at Bashas, so that settles it.

Congrats.
I lived in Lancaster 60W&L12, for a long time and worked at South Base for 10 years.
sold my house there and another in Texas and built one for cash in AZ when I retired 16 months ago.
I wish I was closer to the river, but my wife (an RN who worked at AVHMC for 20 years) still needs an airport for her consulting job.

Congrats!! I thought you might be leaving RDP! But it looks like we will probably be seeing you around more! Leaving California was the best decision we ever made. Unfortunately I don't have any mover hook ups. Sorry.

Congrats! That sounds like a great plan.

I've been on EAFB several times for the Global Hawk program. NASA Dryden also for the K-QX demo.

We inquired about Pods but they said they didn't service Havasu, not sure about Mohave Valley.
We then found Packrats but they wanted $3k to pickup and drop-off the 8x8x16 unit and $250 a month while it was stored in Vegas.
So we ended up doing it the old fashioned way and rented a 26' u-haul one way and unloaded it ourselves (kids helped us) into a 13x45' storage unit.
I still have to move everything one more time into the new house this fall. :grumble:

Congratulations on your retirement, but ........... you're retired!
Make this your first project as a newly unemployed person and do it yourself like Deja Vu did.
You will save a shit ton of money!

Thanks, I hope your house sells quickly.
I remember meeting you a couple of years ago at the I-40 west bound rest stop near Ludlow.
All the best to you and your family.

Thanks Rich.

It has been a few years since our first meeting at Buena Vista with Cale, Jen and Jetboat Rich.

I hope to drive the 67 GTO to the Havasu Run to the Sun event this year.

The parrot and I are heading out to HD Headquarters on 9 March to have a friend install the last two Mini Split vents in the main attached garage.

The two back garages and casita already have them. I love those Daiken units.

My home and cell numbers have not changed if you have them stored in one of your phones.

Stay thirsty my friend!

Congrats on yor retirement. I retired last October and made the big move away from hustle bustle Vancouver. Most of the time, have to look on my cell to see what day it is. Every day is the same. Now, we don't have to worry if we're getting a reservation for a campsite on weekends either, we just go from Mondays on.:)

Cool, I grew up at Edwards from 1959 to 1968 when I graduated high school.
After college and a four year stint in the AF as a RADAR approach controller I came back to Edwards in 1981 as a RADAR approach controller.
I got to work with a lot of cool programs.
I still stay in touch with Fitz Fulton's and Joe Cotton's family.

I love Edwards AFB, however, I'm tired and need to get the hell out of California.

I would love to talk to you about your time at South Base. Was the B-2 at South Base when you worked there?

I loved my time growing up and then working with so many interesting programs at Edwards, plus knowing the families of so many famous test pilots.

Yes, I went to school with all of Chuck Yeager's kids and I knew Pancho Barnes.

Cheers

Ms. RiverDiva, not a problem with no mover hook ups. I may have it worked out.

Leave RDP, never.

I look forward to meeting you.

I first met the infamous RD at an OP6C event when he had a cast on his wrist, a flip flop failure, chasing a hoodlum incident if I remember correctly.

I met RD again at a Tom Papp memorial a few years back.

We look forward to seeing you both.

I'm hoping to bring the 67 GTO to the Run To The Sun deal this year. We shall see.

Take care

Congrats HD! I just retired on Feb 1 and so far it's great! My GF has been retired (disability) for about 8 yrs and now we are FREE!! 35 yrs in the military is pretty hard to shake off, but I'm trying. I've been trying to talk her into a road trip west, but she is not a big traveler. I'd really like to go back to where I grew up (Boron, CA) just to see how it has changed in 40 years. Good luck in your future.

congrats on the retirement, I'm envious. I was thinking for the heirlooms why not pack and move those items your self so you can control the handling of them specifically and let the movers handle the valuable yet replaceable stuff? Would that be a doable alternative? Might be the best (safest) of both worlds so to speak. Did Scott @ foxwell ms do the heads or engine build for your boat? I think it was in a thread on that other defunct forum called pb? If I have the correct rb float it is one beautiful piece and charges hard for it's size/weight. I recall the interior to be particularly beautiful too and really sets the package off nicely.

Thank you for the kind words.
Yes Scott Foxwell built the 492 stroker engine. It has a Chris Straub cam, Morell roller lifters and a lot more nice parts internally. Scott did a lot of massaging to the 990 heads.
There was a lot of discussion on PB back in the days and naysayers could not believe what Scott got those heads to flow.
The engine spins a Starkweather detailed stainless A impellor 6,100 RPMs. Check out the charts for horse power.
I hope to see you out and about on the River.
