30 years old. They've had enough. Yes they're bayliner. Bayliner seats typically dont last more than a few years.

Checking out the foam. I would almost never re-use the old foam. It takes a shape and to try and put new covers on it just looks like crap. But this foam is solid.

Sewing up the welt.

Did some test panels. I dont really care for French seams in a boat. Finally settled on french bolster with same color thread and a pleated insert. Seats will be chalk white with blue welt and a grey detail. Funny because I dont really like white seats with blue welt. Lol

Coolchange, seems like between you, me, and the Headless Hula, and Mesquito_creek we got interior, 'glas, and flooring covered! :D

Thanks for starting a thread, can't wait to see how it turns out. I don't care if the seats are out of a rowboat, if it floats and gets you on the water and back safely, that's what it's about.

Bring on the updates!

Well, I just can't do white with blue welt lol. Sewed up some color texture tests.
Decided to do a color insert in the french seem, that i guess now just makes it felled seam with a stripe in it lol. And grey welt.
So this one is carbon fiber stripe in the french seam that will go over the bolster with grey welt and the CF detail.

This one has blue (hard to see) down the middle.

Im leaning to the blue because i want to not make it look like I'm trying to be hi- tech in a bayliner- trophy bass boat. LOL

If you don't mind me asking, what type of machine are you using, needle size, etc..

Im really interested in understanding more about how this is done.

Thanks!

My machine is a Nakajima. It's a chinese knock off of a Consew 226. Thread is a 92 and cant think of needle size. All standard stuff. There is a ton of videos out there now on how to do it. Sailrite is a good place to start with mostly marine based tutorials. Tons of youtube, some good some bad.
When i started doing this there was a couple of books, mostly furniture based. And trade school. The guy that trimmed some of my trucks and boats back in the day told me to just get a machine and start fuckin shit up if i wanted to learn. So i did lol.

Got a little sewing down this week end and thought I'd post an update. Wanted to lean to grey but keep blue in it. Hope to do grey carpet.
Funny when you do someone else's stuff you can pick colors and design, but when it's your own you always second guess it.

Reading this made me lol...

It's 45ish and rainy here today. My forearms and belly are itchy from cutting glass for hydroskreamins damned eliminator. Lolol...

My boat is still 90 deg off of where it should be.
I discovered it's WAY easier to work on in that position. I'll be doing as much rigging as I can while it's hanging sideways. Your upholstery work looks bitchen! Wish you were closer, I'd have you do mine. 👍

Just a little follow up on the jet boat seats.
He got the boat together on friday and hooked up and hauled into the early morning to get to the river and meet up with a ton of friends and family. Saturday at sunset on the river in front of the bluewater with about 30 friends and family on the beach he proposed to his girl friend.
