Cancer update on my wife

We are officially done with cancer today. Laurie had her last radiation treatment today. 16 rounds of chemo, two blood transfusions, hospitalized twice, surgery and 6 weeks of daily radiation.

Cancer free after nearly a years journey.

Nobody is more bad ass then this chick

Great news!!! We know exactly what you two have been through, we've had to do it twice the last 15 years. She is cancer free and has been for 6 years now. It's great, the strides medicine has made with breast cancer over the years. Thank God!!!

The advances made are incredible.
Deb still does her chemo every three weeks.
Her HER2 positive condition pretty much rules out any discontinuing of treatment.
They stopped once in the first year and she almost died.
Last year the full brain involvement was another close call. The 2 weeks of steady radiation and steroids was hell.
But since then she's been pretty stable and her hair grew back, which is a big deal for her.
Her first chemo/ Herceptin cocktail stopped working last summer about the same time as the brain deal, but the switch to the new recipe worked great.
She will likely never be cancer free, it's far to progressed for that. But her treatments have kept her steady with little change for the worse, and sometimes even slight reductions.

But even just 10 years ago the HER2 would have killed her in less than 6 months.
Now, every change has a possible solution, and she responds to everything they try.

So many people have been through this. Virtually everyone here has been effected whether a loved one or themselves.
I am always thrilled to hear of another survivor and winner! We all win as more and more people beat this shit!!

All I can say is NEVER let your guard down...the shit is insidious.
