Been battling the platelet deal again, they tanked in March (down to 6) then came up to 189,000 the end of March, then down to 0 the first of April, which landed me in the hospital for a few days. This time around the normal treatments have no longer been effective, so a week ago I had to begin chemo. The chemo is supposed to maintain the platelets at around 50,000-70,000 which is low, but will keep me from bleeding out and hopefully prevent future hospital stays (normal is around 120,000 to 450,000)
A week ago my platelet count was 2600, yesterday it was 457,000
The doctor was completely blown away, he told me I'm an anomaly wrapped in a riddle :rolleyes
Now we just need to work at stabilizing the count at a safe level, if it gets too high I'm at risk for blood clots, stroke or heart attack.
The chemo is a low dose and I shouldn't lose any hair or glow in the dark, but it does cause my joints to ache like a mofo. I have to have it once a week for six months or so, then once a month for the rest of my life. At least that was the original plan, who knows with me though? :tbi
