It's one of my "to do" trips at some point! I gotta get a bigger boat. :(

From the high water mark it looks down quite a bit?

Man that looks awesome. I'd love to fly over that close some day. We're heading back in Oct. Can't wait.

Not really. It is actually on it's way up quite a bit right now and should be a really good year. It's at about 3602' right now which is really high for April. The "bathtub ring" is at about 3708' but they like to keep the level below 3670'. In fact, when they remodeled Wahweap Marina they installed the power transformers at about 3680' and they are permanent, not on skids. I was there in 1983 and they don't want the level getting out of hand like that again! You definitely need to go, pictures don't do it justice.

Always low this time of year, but yes. it's currently 98' below full pool. From the reports it should be a good year for the lake level, they are predicting ending the water year at 3,641' above sea level. Last year's peak was 3620' so a 20+ foot jump is cool :)

Such an awesome place, why the need for a bigger boat?
Exactly what I was thinking. You do a week at Powell and the "bigger" boat is the houseboat you rent.

I was only about 11 or so when we went the last time but it is still one of my fondest memories. The entire place is breathtaking.

Just go my eliminator has been all over that lake it's not a big boat either. Water level has been down forever our first trip in the 80s it was near full never seen it close again but plenty of water. IMO some of the best spots you need the water lower to see

Only about 90 feet more to full pool Dave. Its been at this basic level for 10 years. It may get 20 feet more this year than last but the Eviro nuts will flush the canyon with it and say it never existed. Currently almost 50% of capacity.

I boated powell for many years with my 21 v-drive. smaller boats have the advantage of getting into some of the fingers that narrow down and then open back up.

however.....given powell is so huge....it generally becomes an "all day" type deal on the water and a bigger boat has the advantage of carrying more people and gear.....also, the weather can be VERY unpredictable and go from beautiful to nasty in the blink of an eye making for a long boat ride back in pretty big water...or even worse. I can think of several trips where the weather deteriorated in 30 minutes and it was 6' swells on the main body of the lake. you simply pull into a sheltered cove, wait an hour or two and most likely the weather will clear out.

I find my 27 Hallet the ideal size for the lake.....can still reach many tight areas and big enough if it gets rough.

may and early june the weather is very pleasant....into mid june and july is typical monsoon season where the weather can get ugly quick.

Bullfrog, we might camp on the lake somewhere or maybe head back to a hotel not sure yet.

Yeah we are coming in from So Cal. I would beach camp but I will have a 1 year old and an 150lbs St. Bernard and the dog in not aloud in the boat so we take the RV.
