Hi!

I have approx 50 hours on my new Verado 400R Phantom 25 combo. Top speed is 86 mph at 7,040 rpms with two persons.

Phantom 25 is a classic offshore regatta boat from UK. It dominated the offshore scene in 70-90 ties, normally equipped with twin Merc XR2's. I have had various engines on my boat the 20 years I have owned it. The hull is from 1985. Engines included Johnson 3.6 GT V8 300 hp Offshore Race, Promax 300 SVSX, 2 x Merc 2.5 EFI SS with PCU's, Verado 350 Sci and now a new Verado 400R.

The prop I have is a reworked REV4 25 pitch which I bought second hand for my 350 Sci. It was tuned for a Airship RIB 28 footer. Its heavy cupped both close to the hub and on the tip. I have been recommended to try a stock REV4 25 RXP, since its not cupped so much. I presume I will get this prop soon.

I need to run the propshaft at least 0,75 inches above the bottom with the REV4. No positive trim. Lower propshaft height, the speed drops. Higher, the slip increases. So I am looking for a prop which carry the bow better at high propshaft height.

Have anyone tested the Max5 against props such as REV4, Turbo TXP, BLlades 4-Speed OB/FX, Bravo FS, etc?

Thanks!

Cheeers, Toffen

Toffen,
You have a very cool boat. I bet it can take some rough water!

The Church has a few 400R's in the stable. First rule is try every prop you can get your hands on.

We have found success with Dewald propellers. Also, Mercury 5 blades, however, these are expensive.

I personally run Bblades on my DBR Merc 300x. Have you tried the new merc pro max blades? We have run them and we like them a lot. Also, I'd give HYDROMOTIVE a try... We have a few and like them as well.

Good luck, and I'm sure you will get some additional opinions !
