HUH :headscratch:
81% of Portland's known gang members are not white folk so to be politically correct and not hurt their feelings, they are now just plain old criminals......:rolleyes
All based on the opinion that minorities can't accept their offspring are the majority of the criminal gangs. "They're good kids and just got caught up in the wrong crowd." Horseshit, they are the wrong crowd!!!!!! Face it and take charge people. Your kid is killing the neighbor's kid 'cause he wore the wrong color shirt or snot rag. He has no value for life or respect for anyone but himself and crew. Cops did not make him that way. White folk didn't make him that......He made himself that way! Deal with it!
I say leave the database and pay them not to commit crimes.
Yep...I'm still waiting for my damn check...didn't kill anyone this month.
Y'awl need to get your tighty whities un-bunched and out of your ass.
This is a smart move by the City of Portland to limit racial profiling law suits.
Backing up a bit a friend of mine dated the DA in town who was assigned to murders and gangs. While drinking around our dinning room table one evening we got him talking about what went on behind the scenes and it was made clear that the reputation the Portland Police had of shooting first and asking questions later was based in truth. "Changes are made to temper how this is viewed nationally with the goal of maintaining the strict enforcement we depend on."
The database "being purged" is one of those changes.
He also went on to say that virtually 100% of the murders in Portland were not random. IE They are almost all gang/drug related with the ones that are not being domestic in nature.
So what you have is a city that is known for tougher than average action against gangs removing a reason that such action could be constitutionally challenged.

Our police force does not mess around and the gangs around town know it. Unless you are involved in some shady activity, specifically prostitution or drugs, you wont see any gang members... Homeless tweakers on the other hand are an entirely different matter:grumble:
Yes, run in fear of the legal system. In Los Angeles, we should stop shooting criminals because of the fear of being sued. If you are in the gang database, you are in there for a reason! This is a smart move by the City of Portland to limit racial profiling law suits.

If you researched anything about the PPB you would find that they are very good at shooting criminals. So good in fact that national attention was being paid to them. "Purging" the database is a wink and a nod to the legal system while at the same time the City and most of its population fully support our cops. I have friends on the force and want them back home with their families after every shift. Erring on the side of shooting first and asking questions later is SOP in gang related cases. Individual officers have the right/responsibility to use their best judgement in real time. Institutions however have to work under a statutory umbrella that would view the use of a database as racially biased...
