Yeah you're out of luck for Carli on your truck, but the point about counting leafs is the same. Was looking at Carli's stuff. Looks like for the Fords they start their packages at 05 and up with the coil springs up front. Mines a 04 with the leafs.
As far as the drop brackets, my concern with them is the same as with long shackles on anything. Front to back motion is not the concern, it's more the side to side with all the weight of the truck vs the diff and tires. If it was purely a street truck grocery getter I don't think it would raise an issue but the towing and little bit of off road is what conerns me. Probably over thinking it but don't want to waist money trying to save money if you know what I mean.
Personally, I agree with your concern and I wouldn't muck with the OEM shackle.
I started an identical thread on Glamis Dunes a few months ago. There's a lot of great info there. I decided to get a bumper pull instead.
I had my truck lifted at Custom Truck Shop in San Dimas. Ask for Louie, Sarah or Jerry and tell them Dennis the Realtor sent you.

There are some guys with tall trucks towing some monster trailers over there. I have no aspirations of getting crazy with the lift on mine.
