started tearing into the trim pumps for the k-planes... they were looking pretty sad as whoever owned em before me mustve painted them with a brush or something. so its strip time, and then once they're clean ill hit em up with primer and a coat of mercruiser black paint.

the solenoids are pretty grungy and 2 of the posts on em were damaged in shipping. ill just buy all new ones.

insides looked good on the hydraulic pump side

the electric motors themselves werent too bad. brushes and the surface they sit on was clean... but there was some surrounding rust. ill clean em out and hit all the contact points with some fine sandpaper.

aircraft stripper makes short work of any paintjob or finish. you MUST be careful with this stuff. if you brush it on and it splatters in your eye you will be in a world of pain. even a splatter on your arm will be burning like hell in a matter of seconds. luckily it just dilutes with water if you do get any on you.

armatures for the motors... they were a little rusty before. gave a quick sand and then sprayed em with electric cleaner. should be good to go. ill pull the stators and clean those up and then im gonna solder some new leads onto em as the current ones are cracked and i dont want to start any fires anytime soon.

we have a house in hillcrest bay right next to the havasu/parker dam. so we go to havasu and stay at the spots near the dam on the AZ side or we go down parker a couple times.

Boat looks awesome! My family, friends and I have a place in Hillcrest bay. We are at 810 Bayview dr. Would love to see your boat in person along with a few Coors lights.

Speaking of a Great Little Community...

I knew you lived close to me, but didn't realize that we were practically neighbors, recognized wc & navi in the driveway. I'm on the 3rd entrance into the track heading west towards the ramp ;)

LOL, for about an hour the other day I tossed around the idea of taking it off your hands and turning it into a harbor cruiser, so I'd have something to ride around in while I restart/finish the restoration on my whaler :rolleyes. Might be interested in the steering wheel and system ;) I've been following your baby thread, and understand that is now priority #1 for you & the wife. People are strange for sure, everyone wants an $z boat for $x.

still tinkering. my electrical panel was a little large and i wasnt a fan of the exposed wires. sooo i made this instead. fused, relayed, and a little light for when things turn on.

So where are you going to mount that box?

in the back on the transom where the original one is. i need the extra room for a trim pump and to mount the k-plane thru the transom. plus all the wires are contained in a box and not exposed.

out with the old.

10178099_10152185653479833_8732473573605621856_n.jpg

in with the new. i needed something smaller so i could fit the 2 trim pumps for my k-planes. not only is it half the size but its now covered in case it gets a sprinkle. im also able to push the LED's to override the dash in case i want to turn something on. in the pic below the ignition, bilge pump, and blower are on. relay #2 is the starter and #5 is lights.

trim pumps together, just need to put new wires on the motors since they were cracked.

That plate is a much better fit for the boat.

Be sure and blue print the last 3' of the hulls running surface especial if you had to replace the transom and flooring

trailer is on jacks and so far its been a pain in the azz to get the suspension undone to where i can pull the axles out and unbolt the skids/steps. every bolt is rusted solid and i ended up just cutting most of them. i have one side off and i didnt feel like hammering out the shackle pins at 3am so i called it a night. ill bust that out in the morning and head over to the trailer store and the metal shop to pick up some angle.

finally got the fenders and step/skids off with the suspension. the rear bolts were just completely rusted. tried a cutting wheel but there just wasnt any room. so i broke out my giant cheater bar and broke the bolts off with my big dog crab arms.

messin around seeing what it'll look like

all new suspension hardware, hangers, straps, springs, equalizers, and bolts.

all the bolts are greasable with zirc fittings and the equalizers have nylon inserts. no more squeaks and it should last a little longer with the salt dips.

1512722_10152231171114833_1772599611914744573_n.jpg

monday im picking up a pair of 10' 4x2 angle and then im gonna mock it all up. i did a quick measure on the floor and it put my end axles at 68" apart which gives me a good 4-6" between each tire and to the fenders. perfect! the guy at the trailer store wasnt of much help dimensions wise. im not sure if i want to put steps back on it or not. i like the way trailers look with floating fenders but getting in/out of the boat on teh trailer will be a complete pain in the ass...

gonna buy new ubolts, the ones i have for the original axles are suuuuper rusty and a pain in the ass to put back on. then its back under the trailer to get bolted up and make some mounts for the fenders.

just finishing bolting everything up and getting it all aligned. goddamn theres a lot of long ubolts to tighten. then i gotta trim them all. but its sitting on the suspension now and off the jackstands. so far so good. all the equalizers are looking pretty level and thats a good sign, and a good amount of weight on the tongue. next is drilling the holes to bolt the skids to the trailer, and then im going to build the mounts for the fenders.

I've been following this thread for a while now. Impressive would be an understatement.

I always appreciate doing something yourself ... building, creating, destroying, painting, etc. You're doing a damn good job and I can admire the fact that you are doing this all on your own.

Good job! :thumbsup

thanks for your kind words. im obviously no pro. i dont claim to be. im using tools from home depot, sears, harbor freight, etc. most of my supplies are just everyday stuff. i like posting my progress because I think a lot of people need to just get out there and build something, theres absolutely NOTHING to be afraid of or intimidated by. lots of simple things can be done yourself with minimal cost and just some elbow grease on the weekends or at night instead of watching TV.

ill be honest, I feel like I've been born maybe a couple decades late. none of my friends are remotely interested in hanging out and helping, or even learning how to do any of this. they for the most part think I'm crazy and I kinda get the feeling that they look down on me because I dont go out and just buy something that runs already.

trim tabs fully mounted and siliconed on. used orings on the bolts and washers along with 3m marine silicone to seal em up. all holes are coasted in resin, etc.

the 110s tabs are pretty sweet in that they have the pumps attached to them... having 3x trim pumps not only is heavy but a lot of hydraulic hoses, wiring, etc back there...

now to wire em up with some relays (put em on an amp meter and they dont pull more than ~25 amps when running so no need for the big solenoids like the regular trim pumps) and then integrate it into my existing wire loom.
