Since RD was nice enough to start a thread here for me, I might as well continue it with the story/pics of my whole restoration.

'78 Nordic 20'. My Grandfather was the original owner, passed to me 5 years ago. since then, I have started what has become Pandora's box. A little history on the boat: Like I said, my Grandpa bought it new in '78. In the mid 80's my uncle Lyn Mattox raced "Unblown Gas Jet". Became world champ two times. Main Sponsor was none other than the late great Tommy Papp. Built his motors, pumps, and in the last two seasons, his Cheyanne hull. well, Grandpa was his team mechanic, after his record setting run in i believe '86, my uncle had Tom rebuild the motor and pump in the Nordic as a "thanks". When I got the boat in '05, it ran great, no complaints. after we put a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears into her, it shined like the day it was born. over the last couple years, i have added a pretty damn good stereo system into it, 4 6x9's. 2 5x7's, 1200W amp/12" sub combo. I have also been in the process of changing all the hardware on the deck and in the dash, IE. guages, vents, handles, bezels everything from Dana Marine. Last season, I blew the motor. 468 4 bolt main. Cam went flat, lost oil pressure, and burned up some bearings. had all the machine work done, ground/polished steel crank, everything else new. Now it runs even better and stronger than before. In the near future, hopefully in may, she desprately needs a new interior. when that is done I am working on a center rise header deal, to update that portion of the engine combo. theres a pic of what I want to get done, I want to do the wood, because I know exactly what I want, and then just have to find some one resonably priced to cover it. Im going to do it in a nice sand/tan color with orange stripes. Once thats done, she will pretty much be done!:champagne:

RD

This is an interior that WCMI did in an 18'/19' jet boat. I saved the pic as a reference to how I want to redesign my own interior. Picture it almost exactly the same, but a nice rich tan color with 4" orange stripes down the center of the seats.

Thanks, it is a pretty cool deal. I have a lot of pride in this thing, and it has tremendous sentimental value to me. I thought seriously about selling it to get something newer and bigger, but quickly decided against it. Its slow going on a tight budget, but totally worth it.

I finally got started on the exhaust upgrade, I am working on getting setup with a new 4" exhaust system, so I got started with some new tips.

On a side note, i'd like to do something with my cav plates, polished or powdercoated to match the rest of the billet? Your opinion please

Hey Nordic,
Regarding the cav plates, I have the same boat, year and gel color, but mine is a v-drive. I made new cav plates for mine recently and had the plates and the transom brace anodized orange. I really like it, keeps the late 70s theme. I'll try to post some pics of my setup. I just gotta drive out to the shop.

The new interior is showing up on fri. or sat. I will be working on getting it installed next week. everything will have to change, since its a completely different setup:D Its gettin 2 buckets in front, and a bench in the back.for now I will probably run it open engine area, later in the summer I will build a new hatch and have it covered along with new side panels to match the seats. I am comtemplating changing the floor setup from full subfloor, to opening up a channel between the stringers, to give a little more room, and setup the seats a little lower. Not sure yet, we'll see.
I will document as I go along

Really pretty boat! Love the color scheme. Someday I will start down the redo road, but for now its ready to go for the bartlett lake dealio here in az... you are so lucky to have a boat with family history. That is very special. And imo as you get older something you can pass along to the next generation. Great job.

Rear seat base rebuilt and carpeted. Added a support brace along the seat back up high, so it does'nt flex any more, plus it gives a support for the hatch latch. The rear seat sits alot lower than the front seats at the top, but its alright because the hatch will come down to the top of the seat and fix the issue. If i recall WCMI does theres that way.:D

LOOKIN GOOD:thumbsup

Thanks! Now you see why I want to find a pair of center rise manifolds, they would look soo much better than my logs! Hopefully one day I'll find someone to sell me a pair cheap that I can polish or powdercoat. Unfortunately I'm now out of money too! Haha

just keep an eye out. im in mine $350 so far. then u get to deal with valvecovers not fitting, etc.

also if u can find a set of lowers with EMI/RM casting theres a guy at archer marine selling 4" SS risers for cheap. i only bought the 1 pair.

I got this stage of the interior transformation complete! Looks killer, and works great. Took it out for the first float of the season on Lake Mead. Great weather, the water is up considerably, I'd estimate a good 15', the island beach we sat at last season is completely under water, it was about 12' high.

Actually next hopefully is center rise exhaust. then hatch cover, then all the pump stuff. this boat runs great as it is with its setup and new motor, but would absolutely come alive with a split bowl and a droop.

awesome. are the risers and manifolds seperate or do they have a common water jacket? if they have the same bolt pattern as an EMI/RM manifold theres a guy at archer marine who has a set of SS jacketed risers like mine... i only bought the one set of his pair...

They are seperate. For now, since they are polished aluminum, I am going to run it this way, and build water jacketed tailpipes. they just need some cleaning up and re-polishing, they have been in storage

Brandon,
Your boat's not going to like that mini droop. If you can swing it, snag a full droop, you'll love the difference. Looks good so far man, can't wait til you're done with your all of your upgrades

The mini is just tmporary as it is coming along with the split bowl that is being installed. Im working on getting a full droop and steering extension. Maybe fab up a ride plate along with it. Bow rail is coming off next week as well!:champagne: I have wanted it gone since I got the boat 6 years ago. Its finally all coming together, been a long build. but you know the saying: If you have the money = no time, if you have the time = no money.
Thanks for the compliments.
