Hello RDP friends,

Myself and a few buddies have made the leap and bought a car for 24hrs of LeMons!! It's going to be super fun project and even more fun racing the hooptie! I will post info and pictures of the build here and keep you posted on our progress.

We bought a 1992 BMW 325i. Although it is deemed a "Cheater Car" by most in LeMons racing we got a killer deal on it and it's completely drivable as we bought it. This is a big plus for us since everyone on our team has basic mechanical skills and zero auto racing skills. The car has 200k miles and had some really cool after market parts. The engine is chipped, lowering suspension, M3 sway bar, M3 clutch and pressure plate, and a few other goodies. This is awesome because per LeMons rules you can not have more then $500 into your car. So these after market parts would not have been attainable if they weren't already on the car at time of purchase.

Heres some pics of the car when we got it, and pics of the progress.

Back in my former life (pre-boat owner), I used to race a Trans Am at the Silver State Classic as well as a few other events here and there. You might give a call to AutoPower down in San Diego and see if they can do the cage for you. They did the one in my TA.

So your at 500 now lol?

Hahaa. Safety equipment does not count towards the $500 limit. The money we make for selling parts offsets the cost. So say you buy a car for $100 and sell $500 worth of parts, your car is now a $500 car. Ideally we could sell $1000 worth of parts and habe money for race prep. Like change the oil and some other odds and ends.

Ok Lucas Oil experts. Our car is a 1992 BMW 325i with 200k miles. We need engine and gear oil/additives that will make the motor/trans/differential last for 24hrs of race driving. What do yo recommend? And we would be more then happy to put very large LUCAS OIL decals all over the car for a "Racer Discount!!" :D:thumbup:

Our race only oils and marine oils are high zinc items which would be beneficial. Downside is the high levels of zinc will clog up catalytic converters but being a race car I can assume the smog equipment is being removed??

As far as gear oil what weights do you need?

Post a list of fluids that you would use along with weight and I can see what we can do.

Sounds good! The catalytic converter will be removed and we will be running a bad ass Cherry Bomb. Haha. All the other smog equipment under the hood will most likely remain.

These are the fluids that are the most recommend on the BMW forms:

Motor oil= 15w50
Transmission= Royal Purple Synchomax
Differential= 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil
Brake/Clutch= ATE Super Blue/200
Power Steering= Mobil 1 ATF

What are the Lucas comprable fluids?

Thanks,

Riverbound.

For engine oil I would run our 15/40agnum high zinc or our 20/50 marine or race only oil (all are high zinc)

Gear oil is no problem.

ATF is no problem as well.

Synchromax is just a gear oil if I'm not mistaken.

Hey Riverbound,

I'm finally getting around to putting new oils in my 24hrs of LeMons car. I need:

Motor oil= 10q What ever will make a car with 200,00+ miles last on a race track. It's got no smog stuff so whatever you recommend.

Gear oil rearend= 2q 75-140w and if you have the limited slip additive i"ll need that too.

Transmission= 4q ATF

Brake and clutch fluid= 2 bottles of DOT 4

Let me know the price and I can paypal you or send you a check.

Also can you throw in some Lucas Oil stickers? I'd like to decal the car up. The bigger the better.

Thanks.

Here's some crappy cell phone pics of the progress. I'll try and get some good pics in the next couple of days. Other then completely striping the interior of the car, removing the a/c stuff, adding a big block sprint car radiator, and putting in the safety seat it's just pretty much a stocker E36. It was crazy to tear apart the electrical in this car. The amount of switches, relays, and just wires was amazing. The engineering that goes into these cars is pretty impressive. And it's a 1992!!
