My instructions were "This is for my daughter, I want it built safe and strong"
So lets get started, I received a dead stock 53, 6cly,3spd, 6volt truck in less then really poor not a chance of running condition.
So first thing is to take (how did this go together) pictures just in case.;)

Next get a 10bolt out of a chevelle at the swap meet for $100, locate it in with TCI's rear end up grade kit, (springs, shocks, shackles etc), and when both wheels turn the same direction, open the case and get a nice surprise that you scored a freshly rebuilt rear end with a new posi in it:D

Time for a motor and trans, picked up a used 350ci for $200 and a used 350 trans for $50, and placed a order with Summit Racing to to rebuild both
motor got rings, bearings, RV cam valve job, alu intake, Summit Vac Secondary 600cfm carb and block hugger headers. Trans got ripped apart and only the case and valve body were reused, note the angle finder in both directions on the motor

I dont know a damn thing about paint, but why the clear over single stage? Kinda defeats the purpose of easy repairs in the future doesn't it? Truck looks great!

nope makes repairs EASY!!! sand out way past the repair and just lightly into the clear, paint the repaired area with color, then mix 50% clear and paint out a little bit more, then clear only not painting past your sanded area, let dry and color sand and buff. fading and blending with clear is the key to fooling the eye.

why clear over single? 1) gives you a final chance at blocking as you can really see the imperfections with single stage and you can't with the flat appearance of Base coat, 2) you can't sand base coat 3) with Single stage and clear being the same kind of paint (urethane) you can lay down some heavy coats of clear being it binds to the color well
4) clear buffs much better than single.

basically it's just a process that works well for me and the way I work on my higher end paint jobs

air bar 36gt and a days work will mow right through it, or you can mow through $1k getting it blasted (which I don't recommend), shit never comes out and blasted cars always squeak at some point

I would like to do a 41, very different then the 47-55(1st) and I have very good parts source
it's a '41 Poncho... not a truck. Slow and low (as in parked not moving in garage needing air in the tires :grumble: )

sweet ride. I like just about anything 39,40,41. yes bags are a muther, lots of modification, brackets, welding, plumbing, electrical ugh!!! if you can afford it I highly suggest you Hard line the plumbing. If not use 3 piece compression fittings only the have a Nut, Ferrel and compression sleeve, all the push-in ones are just going to leak. make sure you have clearance to drive the car with the bags flat (riding on bump stops nothing dragging or rubbing) because I promise they will go out at the most inopportune time

Love this thread. My Dad has a 53 just like that that was my Grandfathers. In worse shape than this one to start. I wish I had the coin to fix it up for him, he has always wanted to fix it up, but put stuff for all us kids first. Now I feel like he doesn't know where to start with it and he won't ever see it fixed up. Some awesome work and talent you have. Keep the pics coming.

Headliner installed (PITA), with matching sunvisors, rest of the interior window trim painted installed, seat in, and both doors built and installed. :Note how straight the door gaps are. I still need to get the inside door handles wrapped to match but test fit first so I am not sorry later ;)

Inner fender wells and completed engine compartment.
I guessing some one took a axe to the fender well at some point, nothing a little pounding, welding and grinding won't fix

Fenders have taken up some serious time, I would say I had to make about 20% of each fender and what wasn't missing was beat to hell
Seriously?, who fills holes with bondo:thumbsdown, I welded the two hood halves together and welded up the trim holes for a smooth look
In the end it was worth the work..Black Glass on the first pass:D
