Great thread, thanks for sharing.

I really like that flush mount bracket. I wish I would have known about those for my new build.

Yeah they’re great. We use them for everything up to about a 70” screen and we’ve had good luck with them

For us it would actually be nice if the box was just a little bit bigger though... by the time the mount folds up in there it doesn’t leave much room for equipment :)

I can sympathize with that.
So how many wires do you normally pull into that, a couple HDMI cables, power and an optical audio cable?

For us most of our projects have video distribution so it’s just a few cat6 to the tv but we have to put an hdmi extender in there. It receives a signal from our video matrix, allows for tv control, audio return to the rack, networking etc. very cool

Just finished up this client’s ‘old’ house refit (removed the Crestron gear and swapped in ELAN) and his vacation home. Now we are working on his new house.

New one is 17k ft under roof. It’ll probably be another 12 months till done but I’ll try to keep this thread updated with this house :)

Wow cool stuff. How long does it take to train the owners how to use it all? Lol

So the project you started, what does something like that cost? I’m sure if I got to ask I can’t afford it. And yes I can’t. Ha ha. Pretty amazing stuff.

Here’s a couple 165” projection screens we are putting up at a new bar in Little Italy. These will be paired with 13k lumen Christie Laser projectors.

Today’s project:
Finagled a 900lb 6.5’ tall rack onto a 6’8” tall mezzanine 9’ in the air. Pucker factor was high as we couldn’t lift it high enough to get it to clear the opening so we had to lay it down once we got it as high as possible. Basically lifted it straight up, then rigged the bottom to a beam to stop it from dropping and lowered the top to the side. Then used the chain fall to stand it up when standing it up it cleared by 3/8” diagonally

All went off without a hitch :)

Zach, what's the trick to keep outside light from reflecting on the screens?

Unfortunately, there's no trick. For the projection, we use ambient light rejecting screens that only reflect the light coming from the projector and not anything from the sides/above/below.

For the regular TVs, you have two options:
1-Pay $800 and get a regular TV with a glossy screent hat is going to show reflections during the day which is a total bummer.
2-Pay $7000 and get an exterior rated TV with a matte screen that will not show reflections (glare) during the day and be much brighter at night.

Not surprisingly, most people choose to deal with the glare... :/

There are some coatings that are supposed to work, but most will either severely limit the brightness of the screen or severely limit the viewing angle of the screen (you'll be unable to see the image from the sides)

Guys started on the underground wiring for the big house. They’re doing a nice job on the cabling. This is just the start lol. There’s an entire two post rack in the main rack room just for landing wires...

Single pull through 4” conduit. The GC didn’t think we really needed it lol

Shoot me a quick floorplan of what you are adding and I can tell you what I would do.

Are you looking for a motorized screen? Are you wanting to flush mount it in the lid? Speakers mounted in ceiling? What is ceiling material? Where are you going to put your sources and the receiver/amp?

Yes:D
Waiting on my buddy to finish up the drawing then I can send it to you.
But its basically a gable style patio cover so that complicates where I can flush mount it at. Plan on TG on the ceiling. But in the grand scheme of things those speakers will eventually get tied into the yard speakers.

I'll pre wire for ceiling speakers, I can hide all the av in the house in my entertainment center that's close by.

No concerns about moisture in the UG 4"duct?

Probably a non issue if no pull boxes and all under house slab.

It’s always a concern, but we don’t have any options on this particular project.

There’s no pull boxes and both sides sweep up into the house so as long as it’s glued properly we should be fine

Thanks man, it’s a lot more work up front but it’s worth it in the end.

Case in point, here are most of the wire labels for our pre-wire LOL

Some of the speakers for an upcoming theater. This is one of the two subs and two of the three front stage speakers.

Each of the front stage speakers will be powered by a 1000w monoblock and each sub (pair of ported 18’s) is powered by a 4000w amp.

Had to bring them in pretty early for detailed measurements so they will get a little break in during auditioning. :) :D

5’3” Wife for scale. LOL

Hey what do you think of Origin Acoustics in-ceiling speakers?

I prolly should have asked before ordering them...getting an Atmos setup with Director Series D65s with a D85 8” center and D59 atmos channels.

Running an existing, older Energy 10” 400w sub...and Denon AVRX1400 receiver FWIW

Origin makes good stuff, we don't carry their line but it sounds like a you've got a good setup specified there. Are you doing surrounds in the walls or freestanding?

You'll probably end up wanting to upgrade that sub with all the new speakers but it really depends what levels you are wanting to run at. It won't be able to keep up with louder scenes.

Everything will be in-ceiling.
I know it’s a compromise but wife doesn’t want anything on walls, and half the walls are brick (it was an older addition so my interior walls are actually exterior walls) so they’d look goofy.

Hoping the receiver can help correct for some of this...

Gotcha, so you are planning on running the front stage like normal, and then do you just have two other in ceilings you are going to run as your height (Atmos) channels directly overhead? If so, I would try them as both Atmos channels and surround channels and see what you like better.

Yup, that’s exactly what we’re planning. Thanks for the suggestion [emoji106]

I’m told the receiver has significant room-correcting abilities. So I think I’m gonna put them to the test with this setup LOL

Theater in the house, 8000w of subwoofers (4x 18s), 12’s with horns for highs for LCR speakers, surrounds, rear surrounds and atmos ceiling speakers all hidden behind the acoustic paneling. I’ll have to get a few more pictures, it turned out nice.

Had to go do some service work in Pasadena and Century city, best to just fly up with tools! Flew up to El Monte and ubered to Pasadena then flew over to Santa Monica and ubered to Century City. Left at 730 and got back to El Cajon at 3:30. Here’s some pics of LA and flying over LAX with some of the big boys :)

I still dabble in the A/V biz here and there have been impressed with the Emotiva equipment I spied in your pics for the $$$. Just finished a saloon with 140" screen but they didn't go with a lazer projector and now they regret it. Had to have the ole "I told you so" talk :).

Yeah Emotiva is really solid. The price point is great and it’s clean power, I’ve been happy with it. The only thing it’s missing is a gain adjustment per ch on their multi-ch amps.

As for laser, I won’t sell anything but if I have the choice. We steer everyone strongly in that direction as the cost savings of a lamp is quickly forgotten after a few $500+ lamp changes.
