The Marines at 29 Palms are trying to take over Johnson Valley for expanded training, which they have document will be less then 2 month (60 days) a a year. Yet Johnson Valley would be closed forever. For those who dont know Johnson Valley is the largest Open OHV land in California. The Marines hoped to do a land grab (140,000 acres) with little to no opposition. Well that did not happen and a fight has been going on for some time now. So far the OHV community has stopped them and even had the courts side with us. The organizers of the King of the Hammers have been in the fore front of this fight. Now they have started a Petition forcing the Administration to address this issue. With our President wanting to pull troops out and reduce forces we want to know why the Obama Administration would think that expansion of the largest Military base makes sense.

If "We the People" can put a stop to the Government, Military or some Org from taking and closing our Public land or possibly water ways then maybe we will have set a presence for future closures. We need a minimum of 25,000 signatures before Feb 14th to force the administration to publicly address this issue.

We petition the Obama administration to:

Save the Johnson Valley OHV Area. Be fiscally responsible. Stop 29 Palms Marine base expansion. Keep public lands open.

With utmost respect for our nation?s military and national defense, we request our government deny any request by the US Marines to acquire 140K acres of public land designated for OHV use in Johnson Valley, CA for the purpose of expanding the 29 Palms Marine base. Expanding the world?s largest Marine base will cost tax payers millions and the Marines have publicly stated the land is only needed 2 months a year. Economic reports show neighboring communities and small businesses could lose $100 Million annually due to base expansion. The Marines current expansion plan is unnecessary and fiscally irresponsible. We request our government encourage the Marines to work with the public and obtain permits from the BLM to meet training objectives instead of closing this land to the public forever.
