Any help appreciated. Nothing over $30k out the door pricing.

    Too spendy, too Powerglide.

Just let the 396 car slip by hours that has been on CL. My truck had a pump fake, and he went with another offer.

Was a better car for me too, with disc brakes all around, clean big stereo and wheels.

Ah well. Black wasn't my first choice anyway, but it is second.

Be patient my young padawan.... mind your feelings and let the Chevelle come to you..... ;)

I'm looking forward to this too. After I get done staring at Mandelon's signature line, I look forward to what Wes brings home.

It has made it from the shed to the garage. I am going to paint it here shortly, and since the cage is now done we will have it at the river this year.

The cage I built is worth more than the car!!!

Fact is, I didn't like the suspension on it, and have decided to leave it as it is instead of building it up big. Just a cool little cruiser to go look at wildflowers in Anza and stuff.

I have had so many people send me offers for non-convertible rides. I really want a convertible though, being in San Diego.

On the flip side, the convertible was pretty fucking austere. It wasn't as nice on the inside as I had hoped it would look, and you have to unzip the back glass in order to drop the top. Kind of a pain in the ass. More of an ordeal than I had hoped for.

I have never owned a convertible anything. Was looking forward to it.

    Your thoughts???

I was in your same boat when i was shopping for my chevelle. Was dead set on having a convertible. My budget was at 20k and there was no way in hell on finding somthing that was clean my budget. It will be a long hunt to find everything you want in a convertible.

My budget is actually at about $27k, but I am finding a ton of sedans at $20k or lower. Just found a rotisserie restoration, frame off, totally gorgeous for $21k.

Maybe if I could afford an entire collection of cars I might own a convertible, but a single custom cruiser, not a fan.:)

It wasn't super clean. It was kind of a roach actually. Missing trim, big off brand 20" wheels and tires that they did a ghetto job cutting out the inner fenders for, Bondo in the left quarter and rear deck, big dumb, aging stereo with disk changer in the glove box, deck screwed into the bottom of the dashboard in a housing, disk brakes, but not a name brand and overall poor fit and finish for the mods done. Zero attention to detail in my opinion. As an example, the rear separates were installed slightly below the level of the seat. The installed the components clearly without the seat installed.

I liked it though, and would have bought it. Big block car with a 700R4 is a good starting point, at least the motor is worth some money to someone. Small blocks are good for taking up garage space.

He got $26,500 for it all said and done.

Why? To me, it seems the opposite. If I could own several, I would want a hard top too... but if you only own one, make it a vert.

Nice find! Lots of money for a white, 283 PG car though. Audrey for some reason is totally opposed to white or blue. Not sure why. She liked an orange one we saw... but not white. Says it doesn't look like a hot rod, which I agree with.

Nice car though. I like the two door wagon better. ;)

Seems like alot of cars are done that was with cheap parts. I have gone thought just about every accessory that came with the car. They were all ebay crap. With the 64-65 it is very hard to fit a big tire in the rear. You have to cut the rear fenders and hopefully someone did it right the first time.

You are absolutely right, I am just hoping not to un-twist someone elses stuff. The stereo for example. Two 12's in the trunk, bolted in who knows how, the entire trunk Dynamatted (which in my experience is to cover rust) and a giant ghetto box in there.

What I want is a rotisserie restoration in red, tan convertible and interior with no engine or tranny for $20k. :D

You gotta fill them back in when you cut them though, otherwise you can ding your paint from the inside when you run over something, and it encourages rust in the lower quarter.

Well that's where we differ then. Personal tastes... I think it looks 2x better. I think the 65 Chevelle is among the coolest convertibles ever made, and I think the car really lends itself to that look.

Owning a convertible, that is the way it is with some tops. The window isn't glass in the older tops either, not like new convertibles. So if it isn't protected when down then it will go to shit in a hurry.

Back seat width is reduced a bit for the top mechanism as well.

Hopefully it is a power top and not spring assisted. Power tops are the ar-10 of the convertible world.

    I will never sell mine.

This is the car I dreamed about building but the funds were never there.

Also think about the suspention. The chevelle has a long wheel base. Getting the suspension as low as you want is hard with a spring/coilover drop and still have the driveablity you would like. Air bags are the way to go. But all depends how low you want it. Ridetech makes a sweet kit but it is $$$$$$

And with your skills you could mini tub the rear. I was just too scared to cut it myself.

Wes. In the 70's I had a bone stock 68 Barracuda 340 Formula S 4 spd convertible, white interior, black top. [ wished I mothballed that sucker :rolleyes]. Living in cooler climate here, I hardly ever had the top down more than half a dozen time. The Barracuda had a glass rear window:thumbup:. Had my 96 Mustang GT vert for 12 yrs and honestly I don't miss the convertible owning the coupe Viper now. I actually prefer a T-top like my 80 Vette had. There's always some scum that slashes tops and you end up baby sitting the car while the wife shopping in the mall.

My buddy still has the 67 Camaro vert. Now that you've sold the FJ maybe you could talk him down on price showing cash;) Or you really set firm on a 65 Chevelle?

You have a garage to keep it in....

I had a 63 Impala convertible. Black exterior, red interior, white top. Not the SS, but a 327, that would chirp when it shifted.

I drove that thing everywhere. The top was rarely up. We'd have the heater on and wear jackets at night...but if it wasn't raining...the top was down. It had a nice bootcover that snap fitted over the folded up top.

I lived in Pasadena and I'd fill it up with girls from the local catholic all girls high school and we'd cruise the Sunset strip, Hollywood and Westwood every weekend all summer long. Sometimes their moms came along... ;)

Gas was $.89 I think... LOL.

Pasadena to Malibu or Zuma beach is a drive, but it was so worth it....

I don't know if it will work as your only car, but it sure would make an awesome usual car...

I actually don't like the Camaros. Believe it or not. I would far prefer a Chevelle.

I think I found a hard top that I want. It has been a rough morning on my ADD and OCD two-fer.

You'd be surprised. The hard top I just found is $20k, full rotisserie restoration, absolutely perfect in every way, great wheels, brakes, new 350 engine with a factory 4 speed.

    Oh... and it's slut red.

I might have a car by the afternoon...

Glad I'm not the only one. Most think its the holy grail of muscle cars but I don't like them and I think they are played out. I'd much rather have a chevelle, coup de ville, 65 impala, olds etc etc.

Hopefully its as clean as you think. Its been my experience that 90% the cars out there are only about half as nice as the sellers portray.

Lots of bubble gum and toothpicks

Cost big $$ to restore a 64-65 the right way so someone would either be retarded or in huge financial trouble to loose 10-30k on a car.

Hopefully you score a nice one for a fair price:cool::thumbup:

No toothpick or bubble gum here... 150 pictures of the rebuild... culminating with these...

Leading off with a basket case coming there on a trailer, getting new trunk, new quarters, the entire inside of the quarters primed and painted, all top notch... even pics on the rotisserie.
