Hello, wanted to share my current project, 70 schiada flat ex K and drag.
Just when I told myself I'm going to take a break from building a coworker asks if I'm interested in a boat.. She has her boyfriend send pics, of course the pics are awful and I can't really see what I'm looking at and he really doesn't know what it is. At this point I'm pretty curious and have to take a look. Cash in had I drive out to a field in Moses lake shaking my head the entire way. I pull up and question myself?! What is that?!?! Lol
Walking up to it I'm a little shocked.
Boom!! I found a gem:)
I beat the owner there by 30min so I got a minute to think.
He shows up and tells me to make a offer. This goes around a min and I say $650 HE FLIPS OUT! Lol
I tell him to just tell me what he wants!!
He says no less than $1200 and before he could finish I'm handling him cash.
After a 2 hour drive on dry wheel bearings I start pulling all the junk left inside over the years. And notice that this is going to be a complete restoration!! Which I knew I was going to do anyways.. Here's a few pics and I'll try to keep them coming. 441C6D59-5458-4CD9-BA3E-E4BBA4CD1785.jpg 020E7E32-3E98-4F3A-A101-F09EAA8B8922.jpg 45CE8299-9A3F-4F70-AEF3-C5BDB027F642.jpg

Mine was in rough shape when I got it as well. It's been a slow (almost 10 year) project. Hoping to have it wet this winter. Good luck and post a lot of the build pictures!

I'm not smart enough to know when to quit!
Home built trailer:( I sand blasted it and painted it. It will work until the boat is finished and I'll get a new trailer. This was by far the worst boat I've stripped and I've been painting for more than 20 years. Gel coat under and over paint!!! Bang head!!! Why?!?! Lol

Wow...I thought my paint was terrible. Yours looks like it put up a battle to get off. Nice work!

It was a complete nightmare! Glad that part is over with. Next part wasn't that fun either. And thanks.

In the middle of all this I'm trying to figure out the direction of the build.
What am I going to paint it. So it's test panels and sketches. Here are a few I've done for the project.

The funns of stripping a floor!!
There was only small part that was delaminated. But I can't bring myself to putting the fake floor over old.

Right on:thumbsup

Another one saved, if you hadn't grabbed that deal it probably would have rotted away, I really think you are going to like this boat.

Bedding the stringers!
This was my first time doing both at the same time. Worked perfectly.

Thank you very much! I do try very hard to create moving works of art.

This is my work. Not a boat but I'm thinking about doing wood grain on the flattie...

I need some help from you guys.
I'm having a hard time with this build. It's been a while since I've touched it. Sadly sitting in the shop[emoji24]new stringers are bedded and the floor has been is ready to be glassed in. Trailer is 100% done.
Having a tough time with direction of where the build is going. And of course cost for something that will sit on a trailer 90% of the time.
How do you guys keep the motivation through a build? Or rejuvenate an old build once you've lost interest? I'm hoping that just talking and thinking about it will get me excited against....

Deadend,
I've been in your shoes for a looooong time. My project Schiada has taken me 9+ years and had gone in several different directions. With that being said, you have to ask yourself what you want to use the boat for. Initially I wanted to clean mine up, throw a blown BBC into it and go. That didn't last long. I then decided to move the motor, change the strut angle and move the v-drive forward in the boat. All of that took a TON of time and money.
Then my plan changed yet again. I found the Chrysler that my dad had. It had been sitting in the same garage for 22 years (after my dad sold it).
With that being said,...it has been restored, repainted and re-powered. Everything I've done I've researched. I've also tried to make it as safe and "predictable" as I can. It's been a really long journey for me. My old man gave me one piece of advice that I stuck with every day...do one thing on that boat everyday no matter how big or small. Whether it's dusting it off or dropping the motor in...one thing a day.

It's been ran only once (on the trailer) and I plan on pissing my neighbors off tomorrow too. Lol
It's going to get wet within 2 weeks. I bought the boat December 22, 2007. I wish you luck with your project! Wish me luck ma?ana!!!

I think Homeblown and I may own some type of record for the longest builds as mine took the better part of a decade as well (never looked at like that holy crap) to be honest the websites kept me inspired, there were a few similar builds going on and when someone hit a milestone it got me going. I didn't need the boat either and that makes it more difficult to stay inspired. Now that we are done, I have to get my but in gear to knock out a 69 Sanger, need to do floors and paint some stripes, original gelcoat is good but I have no inspiration to jump on it. The work you have done looks great and that woody is beautiful!!!! good luck

1homeblown thank you!
I definitely know I want a classic looking badass ski that scoots! A mixture of warm woods and classic modernized paint scheme. That's funny your dad taught you that, my brother taught me the same thing! Very sound advice. Good luck!
Where's the link to your build?

10 years! I thought 3 was bad!

74spectra20, not needing it really is a problem. I have a sick jet boat and people are more interested in my 91 Supra! Family boat...
With winter just around the bend and shop space is limited I need to just buckle down and get it done!
Thanks guys. Something's to think about today.
Speaking of jet boats. I need to get that thing wet today!
