Cigarette Racing Team raised the bar like never before. After pulling the covers back little by little, gradually divulging weekly visual revelations such as the -- Why 6? Because 7 wouldn't fit teaser photo op -- about its Miami International Boat Show 50th Anniversary debuts and causing a commotion of on-line commentary and speculation among the "know-it-allers" and the "think-they-know-it-allers" as to just what exactly would be presented on the docks
To ring in its golden milestone since Don Aronow first put the N.E.188th street, a.k.a. Thunderboat Row company on the map back in 1969, the legendary brand unveiled six commemorative marine masterpieces including a trio of new watercrafts and three supurb model makeovers paying homage to the flagship's past, present and future. On February 14th at 10:00 a.m. when the Miami Show opened its doors, Pier 2 was turned into a slice of Cigarette heaven.
First, meet the Tirranna. A classy 59-foot sextuple (yes that is indeed six engines) Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard powered luxury sport yacht/performance super console introduced to the powerboating world in Cigarette's specially designed Tirranna Boathouse.
Intriguing in its own right is the name Tirranna, derived from the Australian aboriginal translation for "running water". It was originally given to the New Canaan, Connecticut, mansion owned by the celebrated architect and author Frank Lloyd Wright illustrating how the eight million dollar dwelling conforms to an adjacent curving pond and nearby lake and waterfall.
In Cigarette's press release, owner and CEO Skip Braver stated the Tirranna defies all description and doesn't fit into any designated powerboat category. The hardtop is constructed of lightweight carbon fiber which lowers the center of gravity and enhances driving dynamics. It has a 1,000-gallon fuel capacity and during a trial run (with 900-gallons in the tanks) the GPS climbed to a noteworthy 72 mph with nine smiling-souls on board for the ride.
Special features include an air-conditioned helm station and high-power RGB LED strips integrated below all upholstery panels to enhance the mood lighting. And to answer your next question before you even ask... it will run you $2.6 million dollars.
While it might appear the Tirranna stole the show, the latest offspring from the yearly tribute AMG supercar inspired boat and matching Mercedes-AMG auto was also a head-turner. With the core principle to deliever the ultimate performance on both land and at sea by pushing all limits, its no wonder the marriage between the two powerhouses -- Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG -- remains so strong.
The 11th boat from the collaboration is a stronger and ligher 41' AMG Carbon Edition powered by quad Mercury Racing 400R outboards producing 1,600 horsepower. Robust yet lightweight carbon fiber structures created an innovative sandwich-like construction and shaved 500 pounds off the scale from the 2017 GT R Performance version. A top speed of 83 mph was seen while carrying eight passengers, yet it can accomodate up to 20 guest at lower cruising speeds.
The hull is dressed in a designo graphite grey magno finish made exclusively for the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe and produces contrasts of matte and high-gloss visuals when interacting with the bright red areas. The "Cigarette Cool" upholstery with strong AMG branded graphics has been designed to reflect 30 percent of absorbed heat to keep your bottom-side from broiling when seated.
Rounding out the trio was a contemporary version of the revered classic Top Gun.
The 38-footer sported a wicked red, white and blue American flag themed coat of paint, a special CNC-tooled stainless-steel 50th birthday plaque, an 1,800-watt, 12-speaker JL Audio Cigarette Pure Extreme stereo system, and was set up with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines.
The 42 Huntress, the 42 GTO and 39 GTS welcomed 2019 updates such as the Huntress Elite Package which consists of a billet-aluminum CNC-machined helm station command center, internal LED storage box lighting and power-adjustable footrests. Add to that, the C-Zone digital switching system and Wi-Fi connection to control every function from the boat's helm and cabin screens or via the operator's mobile devices.
The 42 GTO Reserve boasts of a custom-painted and padded helm, three 17-inch Garmin monitors, Reserve edition stitching, mat-cherry-finished cabinetry and a Cigarette Panoramic hardtop. Upgrades on the extremely popular 39 GTS include a bow thruster, motorized Sunbrella sunshade and painted contrast stripe on the hardtop.
For its 50th anniversary celebration specialty-editions -- the quality, the design and the ride -- were the defining features that together continue to forge what is known to all as "The Cigarette Difference".
