The talented team at Teague Custom Marine is currently working on a 42-foot cat from MTI (left) and a 43-foot V-bottom from Outerlimits.

The Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., kicks off in exactly [one week from yesterday] with the Krusin' For Kids charity powerboat rides on Wednesday, April 22. Along with participating in and sponsoring Krusin' For Kids and the entire event, which includes a massive street party on Thursday and a top-speed shootout the day after Friday's poker run, Bob Teague and the crew at Teague Custom Marine have played an enormous role in the poker run since its inception.

The Valencia, Calif., company's customers have been a big part of Desert Storm as well, and this year will be no different as Teague and company are extremely busy getting equipment ready for the event. While TCM isn't the only high-performance shop cranking on boats so they can participate in the biggest go-fast boating event on the West Coast, good luck finding one that has more boats on site.

With rain in the Southern California forecast earlier this week all of the boats outside the shop needed to be covered.

"There are a ton of boats here right now, probably close to 50," said TCM V.P. of marketing Cherilyn Noack, Teague's daughter. "Along with engine installations, we've got a lot of boats in here for service and other odds and ends - some of them with a deadline to be ready for Desert Storm. We're also doing a lot of custom fabrication work between water pickups, sea strainers, tailpipes, you name it. Some for current customers, some for OEMs."

Of course many of the boats at the shop - including a Canadian customer's Eliminator Boats 33 Daytona being re-rigged with new TCM 1025EFI engines, a classic DiMarco Day Cruiser, a 42-foot Cigarette, a 38-foot Formula and Kansas resident and Lake of the Ozarks boater Roger Neighbors' Fountain Powerboats 42 Lightning getting upgraded to Velvet Drive transmissions and TCM's 1225SCi conversion of 1075SCi engines from Mercury Racing - won't be headed to Desert Storm. Still, Noack, who is married to TCM rigging expert Josh Noack, mentioned several notable boats being worked on that will be blasting around Lake Havasu in a couple of weeks.

Along with Larry Kramer's well-known 388 Skater catamaran that is due in the shop this week for a quick once-over before the event, Noack said TCM is prepping an Outerlimits SV 43 with twin TCM 1200s, a couple of DCB cats and a 29-foot deck boat from Nordic for the poker run. The crew also is expecting to wrap up the restoration of a 2004 Howard 26-foot catamaran, which received a new TCM 985EFI engine and a complete interior overhaul, in time for Desert Storm.

The list of other projects happening at the Southern California shop is extensive and the engine orders are picking up as well. In fact, Noack said the company recently delivered a pair of 985EFI engines for a new 34 Party Cat from Advantage Boats. She said Cobra Performance Boats picked up the same engine for a new boat order, too.

As always a large contingent of the TCM crew will be on hand for the Street Party - with the Team AMSOIL Skater in tow - and to assist customers in the poker run, but ask any one of them what part of Desert Storm is their favorite and they'll all say Krusin' for Kids.

"We already have two dozen boats signed up to give rides," said Noack, who helps organize the charity event. "We'll be bringing the DCB F-32 and will provide as many rides as possible. There is nothing better than the feeling you get from Krusin' for Kids."
