Are the new four strokes to heavy for these little boats?

These little 4 strokes are around 175 pounds with power trim and are definitely heavier than the old 2 strokes. We are seeing good performance with the 30HP - speeds in the low 30's with a 12p aluminum prop (around 10% slip). Still experimenting with taller cleaver props - there is more speed to be had, as these motors will wind up to around 6K rpm.

The beam on this particular boat is very wide - 5.5' - and that definitely helps support the weight of the motor. Smaller, narrower minis don't seem to have very good luck with the 4 strokes.

We have a couple of customers running 40HP, and one running a 50HP. Reports of "scaring myself" have been trickling in from these guys. Sounds like good fun to me...

Thanks Dave.

175 with power trim on the four stroke? The old two strokes were like 130 minus the power trim? What does a 40 way with power trim? And 50? Any pics of the trim setups?

This might be a dumb question but can you put a waverunner motor and jet for the power plant?

The Honda 50 short shaft with the Blast ( Boosted Low Speed Torque) feature weigh 214 lbs without the power trim.
Go B.L.A.S.T., it's a bfd in the consol Inflatables, and we're told the lighest.

Some other MFG's are dropping the short shaft 50's.

The 40HP and 50HP models are two stroke TLDI engines and weigh 208 pounds.

Boatdoc55 was right on - these weigh about 200 lbs. Performance on this hull has been exceptional.

There are no dumb questions. While there's plenty of room for a motor and pump, this hull has no center pod. Probably not the best design for a single jet. Twin pumps? Not sure about that....

We did just aquire an 18' vee bottom mold that has always been built as a jet. This boat was built by Cobra as the Sidewinder 185, and was the Ultra Formula before that. We plan to offer this with a jet or whacker power. Picture attached below.

The 40HP and 50HP models are two stroke TLDI engines and weigh 208 pounds.

Thank you Sir. Nice motors, perform well, and are expensive. 3 Star EPA motors too!

$15.5K - this includes 3 color graphics, color matched Competitive Trailer, gauge package, billet package, etc., etc. Price can go up, or down, depending on what a customer is looking for.

Thanks for all the compliments!

This is really cool.
Just another opinion, but I think offering the smaller boats including the 18 stuff with basic power (yes, even jets) is gonna get new people onto the water for the first time. I also think that very few people ever buy jsut one small boat...they move on to bigger ones.

Anyway, very cool stuff.
