Here's that anchor you couldn't pull up no matter what angle you took, no matter how many people got on that line,.. before cutting it.

Perfect for the "permanent" mooring.

Pretty crazy that this picture was posted by Mark C in his "wrecks emerging" thread on 10/27
sunk.jpg
and then Grads posted this picture on 11/7 of the same boat in his thread and there is no more water surrounding the boat. If the water is disappearing that fast that lake should be all dried up by Feb./March, that's scary :yikes

What is more strange is that the boat lost a steering wheel, yet gained 2 mounted seats in a matter of days.
Holly shit. You're spot on with that! I can see the seats being found near it and someone puts them in the boat, but the steering wheel disappearing is bizzare!

Obviously someone broke off the steering wheel which is lame and in the first pic you can see both seats are there I just moved the passenger seat to sit in it.

EDIT: Also when I first saw the boat I assumed since it looked like the bow of it was stuffed that the steering wheel was broken off then.

You hopped in, and sat in it?
That's cool, I prolly would have done the same thing LOL

I swear to god there was a good 20 minutes today where I thought I had found part of the plane!:yikes Thanks to Mark C, I knew the plane was white with blue and red. I saw something down about 3-4' that matched that description. Although this is not the picture of it in the water this is the part that I saw.

IMG_7001.jpg

After working at for what seemed like forever I got it up and cleaned it up a bit.:( Turns out it was an old outboard cover. I still took it home because I thought it was cool. I'll probably clean it up and hang it in the garage.

IMG_6976.jpg

So here's where things get a little interesting. I see what I thought might be part of a fence post sitting on the shore. I debated on checking it out but thought what the hell. As I get closer to it I see the "CCC" stickers on it....the same CCC stickers that were on the Phosphorus flares. It also said "down or forward when launched" on it.:headscratch::hmm It was partially wood but also had a big piece of metal at the bottom and in it and was quite heavy for its size. After a little googling when I got home it looks like it is also some sort of Navy flare and dangerous to handle. I'd hate to tell you what I was doing with it.....throwing it in the water, washing it off, throwing back on shore...etc. Here's one of the only links I could find with a similar picture.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/norfolk/4329637.stm

And my pics.

This is what it should look like..

And this is what they suggest doing with them. Here's the link. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ts-blow-phosphorous-flares-Norfolk-beach.html

Here's a picture of Waterjunky's weather station with the dam in the background.

IMG_6979a.jpg

The top of a tree in the middle of the lake.:yikes Some of the trees are 60'+. More than likely this is one.

IMG_6991.jpg

And then there was this. Since there are no longer any usable launch ramps people get creative. And although this guy seems to be in a bit of trouble, that's not why the rescue is there. There is another boat that slid off the trailer and is underwater.:yikes I guess it mowed someone over as it slid down the sand.:yikes:thumbsdown

I'll let Mark C post it but he found another sunken boat. By the way, Mark and I went out paddling Friday and searched some areas and came up empty handed but we made it to the dam. Kind of an incredible picture considering he is standing directly in front of the dam.:yikes

IMG_6948.jpg

The dam stands about 15 stories tall right now and although it might not seem that impressive in the pictures, it is huge in person.

IMG_6957.jpg

And a big pile of rocks in front of the dam normally 100' underwater.

IMG_6954.jpg

To try and give an idea of how big it is....

Great pics Greg. Here's the old Caravelle I found yesterday. Probably nothing new though. It must have been found numerous times over the years. It is high on the peninsula about a mile up the south fork from Brown's Ravine. Stripped of most everything, no running gear, loaded with big rocks. Some of the numbers visible on the starboard side. More pics of the peninsula road to the southern tip available at:

I've been using a pretty cool satellite picture website to find a lot of stuff. It's super current and much clearer than Google maps. http://maps.us.nearmap.com

And here's a couple more pictures using the same website. The picture on the left The water level is already down 45' and would be considered low in a normal year. Normally that peninsula in the center is under water when it is full. The picture on the right shows the lake from last month with water level down over 100'

Here's a couple of stand-up JetSki engine covers I found on the north fork. Maybe someone here will recognize them or even know the story behind losing them. Both look intact.

I haven't been out to the lake lately, but I saw this on the news the other day and wanted to post it. It shows a fairly close picture of the guard towers on top of the dam. Kind of gives you a perspective of how big the dam really is when the water is low like this.

Yep, I think the window has closed. The lake has risen 2' from its low point about a week ago. Unless we have a really long dry spell this winter it will probably never reach this low level again because of the new spillway and also they are trying to pass some legislation that will not allow the lake to drop below 200,000 acre feet(currently 140,000). I'm kind of bummed about this. I've really enjoyed exploring the low lake bed and I thought there was a good chance the plane would be found. It looks like it never will. On the bright side, if the lake keeps filling we will have a boating season.

Thanks for the info & update.
It's too bad, I had really hoped they would find the plane.
Always nice for the involved families to have some closure.
Thanks for the updates throughout this thread as its one of my fav's.

Hops all has a great holiday season !

According to park rangers, this was the first attempt to recover the plane by someone other than officials with capabilities to do so.

Looks like grads was full of shit according to authorities ?

This morning on the news out of Sac there was a story about the family of the people who were lost in the missing plane.
Apparently two men, in in his 50's and the other 88, were out on the lake over the weekend, dragging the bottom in search of the plane.
Their 18 ft. boat capsized.
Both men were in the water for over an hour. The younger man got to shore and ran over a mile to the closest house to call for help. They got the 88 year old to the hospital, he is still alive.

I don't think that's the approved method of resuscitation that Grads picture showed, but it might work to bring a guy back;)

Fuck Grads:D

Grads is annoying at times and I have no desire to hang out with the guy....but it says a lot about the board. Grads porbably posts more relevant content than anyone, Yet he is under the most scrutiny. Even though the site is comprised mostly of grown men, its not comprised of adult mind sets ;) When grads gets annoying I just don't read his posts, or I will engage him in conversation (very simple for some, impossible for others). After everything is said and done I can either agree or disagree, and that is that. Then you have the "adults" who just cant let it be. which is why hes in the spot he is in now, "I don't like him, so he must go" and they just cant get the Fuck over it. so they make their lifes mission to follow him around and tattle every chance they get.

I could go on and on as to changes Im seeing the board as a whole go through, but then I would probably get banned. So I will just watch the shit show, and keep most my thoughts to myself...LOL.
