If I have my charge wire from the alternator run to the key switch. Where should the sense line go? To the battery or up to the dash also?

Motor is back in. Cam is broke in. Ran it for 30 minutes at 2300 then at 5 minutes at 2500. Had to grind corner of intake rocker to clear valve cover. Just finished adjusting valves. Now gotta pull off even bank exhaust so I can put valve cover back on.

Damn thing sounds good.now just hope it runs as good as it sounds

Had a friend do bottom end. He used to be crew chief for craftsman truck series. I trust his work.

Took boat out today. Damn thing ran great except I forgot to tighten the distributor lockdown bolt. And I think my alternator may be dead.

Anyone know where I can get brushes for the pestolite trim pumps before Wednesday. I need 4 sets.

In one of the spectra forums post there is details about a company that was doing them, too busy to find it right now but I'm thinking it's around page 7-9? RD had the details or worked for them at one time?

Found a post with a link to a guy in Az, Then there is the repost by RD about a CL ad that does em, he has no affiliation, was just reposting.

"E-mail a picture with dimensions to [email protected] to see if we can do the work, or call Mike at 323-935-1083. We're located at 4617 W. Washington Blvd. in Los Angeles (90016).

Just posting the info in here in case the CL listing expires.

Jesus that sucks! Glad you got it figured out...did you really have to tear it down multiple times? No low oil pressure showing on the gauge?

All of that work and it's one little spring... ain't that just somebody's way of flipping you the bird! That sort of thing drives me nuts. The weather is still decent... you've still got enough time to get that sucker together and start making some wakes! And take some pictures when you do!

OK. Gots a question on fuses.

How big a fuse should I run on the trim pumps. 2 pumps, single main power source? One is out drive and one is tab.

Time to revive this old thread.

After quite a few diy rebuilds. I broke down and took the engines to Barry. We decided on making them 496's. They are only 2 bolt mains so just doing cast steel cranks and whatever else Barry says to use.

While the engines were out found some rot in a stringer and both bulkheads are toast. So pulled the tanks and cut out 7 foot of stringer and the rear bulkhead so far. Getting with a friend that has built his own 70 foot trimaran to figure out how to bond the new section of stringer in. Got the one bulkhead out hopefully we'll enough to use as a pattern. So hopefully in 2 weeks will start putting in the new stringer and bulkhead. Then time to cutout and replace the forward one.

They seem to be fine. Have a little corrosion/pitting on them in places. But the aluminum is still overall in great shape. Before the go back in I'm gonna spray them with automotive undercoating. Should help keep moisture away from them.

I'm even gonna have the cabinets rebuilt. But have to wait for the front bulkhead to come out. They won't fit through the hatch.

Also gonna add a bulkhead up by the birth. I have lots of deck flex so that shout take care of it.

Nice. Where will you be boating at there? I'm originally from paducah, just north of nashville. I would love to be able to move back there, but haven't been able to find a job in the area

I hope to try out all the local lakes, but the boat will be stored at Center Hill Lake. All the research I have done seems to say that it is a great lake that is quiet, clean, and fun.

Anybody got a hookup on some 1708 fiberglass. I can find it on the intertubes, but with shipping it's probably gonna be about what I would pay at a store. Looking for like a 50 yard roll. And I'm not paying west marines prices.

Thanks

Ok. Time for a few updates. I have replaced one stringer. Rear bulkhead and working on forward bulkhead.

The rear bulkhead and stringer was eat up with rot. The forward one was a lunch for termites.

New cabinets will be done in 3 weeks. Then I can put the forward bulkhead in permanent.

Ok. Finally made some progress. Friend built me new cabinets for the boat. It only took him about 6 months. Now they are done and in the boat I got the forward bulkhead in. And thought I'd throw in a little gratuitous sex.

Dam it's fucking hot. 20170619_135152.jpg 20170607_212734.jpg 20170607_212626.jpg dolly_castro.jpg

Ok.. been sanding the bilge today. Got just under a quarter of the bottom done in 4 freaking hours. Damned belt sander is to big so having to use a fucking ordital with 40 grit. Fucking slow. Trying to get the weave pattern out so it's smooth. Then gonna paint it with blue imron.

The weave pattern is the cloth. I would think sanding it down is like taking away the strength. Why not mix up a flow coat of resin to fill in the voids of the weave pattern and paint that ? I'm just saying it might be less work.

I had thought about that, but the weave is really shiny down inside. So thought thought there was to much risk of it not sticking good and it would peel. I do plan on putting another layer of biaxal down. The stuff I have is layered so no weave. Should actually put the strength back in and be easy to sand out the wax then that will give me a good surface to paint.

Had a long day today. Built cribbing and pulled the boat off the trailer today. Damned thing looks funny sitting on blocks and cribbing.

Have some welds on the bottom of the trailer that are popping. And the channel iron is bent from dragging due to steep entrances to places. So gonna cut and replace with thicker steel. The channel that was on it was 5 inch wide and 3/16. I'm replacing with 3 inch wide 1/4. Should have less dragging and be stronger for when it does.

Need some info/advice though. I know galvanizing is better for salt water. But I like the looks of a painted trailer. Can I paint/powder coat over the galvanizing without defeating the purpose of the galvanizing?
