Cabellas brand semi synthetic. I ran it in everything of mine from a super 5 to a champ motor. I burned 32+ gallons last year everything was dandy.

Nice! Thanks for the heads up. I even have a cabellas gift card I gotta spend!

I've been running merc/quicksilver premium plus in the 300 pro Max's. but I've ran wal mart super tech in the 2.4 for decades now.

My uncle and I switched from the West Marine brand a couple years ago. The Wal-Mart oil is so readily available for $12/gallon all day long. And TC-W3 certified so we figure why not. Glad to hear your 2.4's have held up with is for so long. Reassures me our 2.4's will do just fine.

After 31 years of this I got over my over priced oil phobia long ago. One oil I absolutely will not use begins with an A.

I ran the shit out of 2 merc v-6s last year, one a stock xr6 and the other a nic s3000/drag/champ motor on this 10 dollar a gallon to no ill effect. I'm going to look for the msds sheet but it looks and smells an awful lot like another oil that comes out of a jug that makes it cost three times more.

it is $20 a gallon normally if that make anyone feel better. :D

There is no substitute for good oil.

Never seen or used this Cabelas Oil it could be great oil, but I have used West Marine, and Penzoil, and both helped seize my 280 and 260 mercs.
I mixed both engines the same 32:1 and within 2 tanks my 280 threw a rod out the side and seized the Pistons.

After tearing them down you can see how dry it was running.
Not sure but not all oils are created equal! Regardless of price!

Merc Racing for me, especially since my engine builder told me not to use anything else, when you have 25k in a racing outboard the last thing I will ever skimp on is Fuel and Lube.

My engines are too precious and expensive to risk, for me

No disrespect on the guys that run other brands, to each their own...

I just ordered some Cabellas just to have on hand. Had a 2yr old gift card in my wallet so I got a few gallons for free. :) Thanks for the heads up.

I think ill continue to run Merc oil in my 300's...but only because I cant afford to replace them. I've always been a proponent of cheap oil in everything else. Ill run this cabelas oil in my 2.4, dirt bike's, somethin.

It's good to know he runs his s3000 Champ engine with the cabelas oil.

I will respect my engine builders choice of Merc oil , because this is what he swears by. I will run my 250xs on the Cabelas oil as I have done now for over a year / 150 hours.

My 300xs manual indicates Merc Racing oil (92-8M0078011) should be used. Confirmed by a number of top O/B mechanics too.

So despite the cost, I'm staying with it.

At least this engine doesn't burn that much of it....

Besides price, the only other thing I dislike about the Racing formulation is in raw form, it smells like a bucket of buttholes. lol

The good thing about the Merc premium plus is it has an ass pile of moly in it.

A very reliable source told me that after 2020 it's highly unlikely mercury will be building anymore two-stroke engines.

All four strokes baby! Once you convert over you won't look back. I'm not. Still an outboard just vicious and silent.

No doubt it will be a transition that takes years but it's coming. No different than personal watercraft. Or dirt bikes. Etc.

With due respect Paul us in the tiny boat market could give a fuck less. But we were run out in 05. I'm not out to be disrespectful but there are a ton of us who are left behind. Mercury racing was built off of a lot of us.

Thank goodness for evinrude and CRT. The super charger for the yammies is very promising too.

Don't get me wrong , I love the old stuff. I owned about 14 two-stroke outboards and had one open barrel of two-stroke oil with a pump and a spare barrel beside it for many years. Scott I'll tell you.

Remember the old motorcross bikes? 250 and 500 two-stroke.

Now look at the little fire breathing 4 strokes that replaced them. I'm hoping for similar technology to bridge over in time. I think it probably will.

I'm glad you guys got plenty of water we do too. Should be a great boating year. 

I'll never get rid of my cr500. Never.
I don't think I could get rid of my KX500 either. Bullheadbully talking about the 4 strokes replacing them I guess doesn't qualify the horsepower of the old 500's stock is still more than the modern high tech 4 strokes. That's why when you read write ups on various 500AF's and such so many of the younger, super talented riders come back afraid. The shear power is incredible.

Damn I love my 2 strokes!

"By the time I had put in two laps on the motocross track, I knew something was dreadfully wrong with either me, or the Suzuki. Whenever I tried to accelerate smoothly out of a bumpy corner, that staggering mid-range would hit and the rear end of the bike would lurch outward."

so my google study has shown there is no TRUE "smokeless" 2 stroke oil. the best you can do is use less synthetic oil per gallon of gas, in theory it should burn cleaner. kinda screwed with premix gonna smoke at idle no matter what you do.

This bike was my girlfriends dads before he passed. He had a pile of compression in it and was retarded when it hooked up.
