Picked something up that I've always loved! 1965 Malibu SS. Has a few issues, but I got her for the price I thought was fair. Plus, she has a Corvette motor in her. She is fun, but needs some work! I thought I'd need AAA to get me home! 00I0I_3HZVEult3KZ_600x450.jpg

Interior isn't too bad. She's been sitting for awhile. I'll get some good shots after she's cleaned up tomorrow. 5.7. I know nothing more at the moment. Has 3 aftermarket gauged. Water temp, oil pressure and volt... At least the volt gauge works [emoji6]

By the way, had to stop at Auto zone and get a new battery because the car needed to be jumped every time she shut off. Understandable, but now she fires right up with the new battery.

The owner was a good guy and had a nice wakeboard boat in his driveway. I told him about RDP. He'll show up one of these days [emoji106]

Aren't all 327's small blocks? This is a BB. So either a 396 or a 496?

Yup! A few months ago, there was a firetruck red 65' that had a salvage title on CL. I was close on pulling the trigger but it was double what I paid. I'm happy I got a nice lil project!

Yes they are. If it's a BB, and a true vette engine (check the casting/stamped #'s), then there is probably someone out there is willing to pay you for an LS swap to get that engine back.

Is this now your daily driver??? I bet the guys at work are jealous...

I'll switch off between this and my truck. I did pick it up to help save some miles on my truck. Plus it's fun! Hell, within 2 years I already put 55,000 miles on my truck.

Only issue is that she needs to go to the shop already as she doesn't shift into 3rd.... Found that out on the freeway :(

Sweet ride! Love the 64 & 65's. Simple, clean lines before they started growing.

I'm far from a expert but I believe your engine is a early 2000's 5.7, and would be considered a small block.

Ah, and LS vette motor, an earlier one I presume if it is hooked to an actual throttle cable rather than by wire, Bigbore500 will be by any minute to decode for you :D Congrats on joining the chevelle club. Is it a turbo 400 behind the LS?

Small blocks don't have the exhaust ports similarly spaced like what is on there now. I think? I'm not a car guy.

Correct, traditional small blocks, like mine, have siamese ports in the middle cylinders, LS's are spaced evenly, I believe the throttle bodies were by wire after 2002, but I am no LS guru. All I know is I would build an LS motor everyday of the week and twice on Sunday before I would do another traditional small block chevy. What I have to spec on mine to get the power I want and run on pump gas and be alright on the street is so much more a pain in the ass than the same power with an LS. Like I said, BigBore500R seems to have quite the experience with LS's and Cole Trickle as well, or leave it stock and enjoy a nice cruiser that will have awesome street manners. :thumbsup

And if anyone is interested, here is how to identify all the "small block" variants by exhaust ports.

Small block: port order front to back, E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E
sbc.jpg

LS: E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I

SB2: I-E-I-E-E-I-E-I

RO7: I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E

it's an LS based motor.....That's why I saw it on CL I always search for LS swap stuff.

You will need to pull casting #'s off the block and heads to figure out which one.....Those covers don't mean shit

Could be a 4.8,5.3,(5.7 ls1),6.0,(6.0 ls2) (LS's are aluminum blocks truck motors are iron(with 1 exception)...take a magnet out there:D)

4.8/5.3/6.0 are truck engines (nothing wrong with that)

ls1 and ls2 are camaro/corvette,ctsv,trail blazer ss engines.

Is it a 4 speed 4l60 or a turbo 350/400?

You're right, not a conventional small block. The experts are starting to weigh in now, guess it's a LS.:thumbsup

I'll check her out when I get her back. Tranny had a bad leak and also wouldn't shift into 3rd. I just dropped her off at the shop to get fixed. The tranny shop said It's a T350

That's going to end up being a weak link. They wen't as cheap as possible and the car was probably a 350/350 car before they swapped in the LS.

400 will hold the power but won't make for a great freeway flyer being a 3 speed (same with the 350)

Looks like a good start to a nice car...de ghetto it and fix her right:)
