[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]When the pinion gear blew out the front, it jammed the driveshaft in ether the gimbal bearing or the coupler splines. Other than buying and making some kind of slidehammer to attach to the end of the shaft, any of you ingenious inmates have a idea how to get this out? Check out those splines, guess there was a bit of torque before things went kablewy.

With two people may work.

Wear some type of facemask if you attempt this method. Unless of course you admire hockey inspired dental work. :)

I'd be concerned about cracking something using pry bars

I can get really creative. Hook a chain to it then to your truck and give a little jerk on it, should pop right out.

Maybe try tapping it with a dead bow from the sides to loosen it up while you pull on it with a ratchet strap attached to something solid.

Or the slide hammer should work. If everything else fails

If you have a hydrolic power pack you could use a pin puller and a piece of pipe. Only issue would be can the house g take the force.

I took a 2x2 to hold the gimbal ring still and then a 4’ crowbar stuffed into the cv then a piece of 1x to protect the gimbal then a 5lbs sledge tapping the solid part of the cv, no bueno, being everything back here is cast aluminum, I’m trying not to get to crazy, I think there is no more damage, I have looked really close where the gimbal bearing in pressed in, and see no cracks. Fingers crossed

Truck is not a bad idea, if the boat ends up laying on the driveway I’ll let ya know. Or I may have to get Aaron involved at Max, wish they where open on Saturday’s, they are only 2 miles away.

Oh my. No words.

You didn't really pull on it like that....did you?

Brian
Yup, I only used the Jeep for an anchor , and ratcheted, and tapped, was afraid to get too crazy, don’t want to get killed or break any more of it,

Did you tap the shaft with a dead blow side to side while doing that?
Yes, kinda hard to get at it, used a 12”x1” chisle like punch thing I have to get down in there, at one point I think it popped out like 1/8”..

Why all the drama? Cant you just fashion up and use a slide hammer in the H bar.?

Yeap, see post #2. ;)

If it doesn't pop off or slide with one or two good hits, the whole thing is prolly fubar.

I hear Outdrives are awesome. insert roll eyes here. :)

If you dont have a slide hammer, or cant find one you can make one with a piece of all thread and piece of tubing.
Where are u located
Have to checked inside to make sure there's nothing holding it in? Damaged splines etc, has the bearing moved?

You make it sound so easy, how do I attach a slide hammer? It’s not like the end of one is going to be the same size , thead count and pitch as the end of the driveshaft and come with a long coupling nut to tie the 2 together, I don’t have a machine shop at my disposal.

Real hard to see if something inside is holding it, you can’t see in the coupler, you can only see a few inches of driveshaft as it exits the gimbal then enters the engine bell housing.

Well fuck, I am trying to help here sir.

Arent you the tease who posts pictures of smoking meat and then doesn't invite anyone over? Just curious. ;)

Take a picture of the whole driveline please.

I am sure something could be fastened to the side of the Hbar driveline out of the picture frame.

Ok, stuck my fat head down behind engine with a mirror, I can see about 1/4” of driveshaft splines not in coupler so I’m guessing I’m ok there. I measured the pinion gear before I took it off and made some capairison measurements with the snout of the upper, it’s within maybe 1/4” of where it should be to mesh with the drive gears. The gimbal bearing looks like the center of it is pushed in, in the center portion. I don’t know if I moved it a bit or what, but there seems to be about 3/16” of shiny driveshaft showing outside the gimbal bearing on the outside of the boat( between gimbal bearing and where the machining stops for the u joint knuckle.

Maybe I’m catching on,”slow learner” if I could pull the u joint apart, yes there would be 2 holes. I’ve done u joints , pressed them in and out with a vise and a socket.

I got a couple ideas. sent you a pm with my phone number.

You could gently try MJCs idea of prybars behind the H bar but that is dangerous, even with two peeps.

Im thinkin of pulling off the front side yoke off the H bar and using a slide hammer attached through the two holes left by removing the yoke. Does that make sense?
