If you look at my join date, it too was after this wreck. I was one those who looked here for info. I had been hesitant to join RDP until recently. I am not a social media person. I was afraid this place was populated by baller wannabes, bragging about dollars spent and booze consumed. After reading the thread, I decided to join. I read through, and saw what was written, and a genuine concern. I was looking for info because I didn't know who and what...I was happy it wasn't groups I knew, then a bit sad when I realized relief for me, in no way changes the pain another feels.
This girl I never met is in my thoughts, as is a family I do not know. The season is over for some, but my family and I go throughout the year. We will probably be on the water this weekend...Pirate's north. I hope Bruce's Legacy can find her. I'm glad there are people with the drive and the talent to do jobs most could not.

I have been active on forums for 15 years this is the best by far.

AzCentral had an article yesterday on the wreck/recovery. MCSO spokesperson says that, "officers from different agencies" are searching...And, "our divers are on hand" should something be found. I don't know how to post a link, hope somebody can. The MCSO person also stated the body, "could be anywhere".

I'm a bit torqued...no mention of a group that came a few thousand miles, with equipment, to help. What do I know, I'm just a redneck...
I hope they find her soon.

“The body could literally be anywhere...”

Said she thinks it is unlikely that debris is holding her down somewhere.

I refrained from making a comment on the spokesperson's, "...literally anywhere." I know it's a big area, but it's from I40 to Parker, not the lower 48. Some words are slightly misused, I think.

Thank you F.B.W. for posting a link.

I just read that Bruce has exhausted all his techniques and isn’t going to search anymore. Sad deal.

I find myself asking myself where the fu*k could she be...

Where did you see that? That seems like a short time to look for how far they traveled.

Raegan Heitzig Search-Lake Havasu

On September 1st, 2018, between the Topock Marina and Pirate’s Cove which is north of Lake Havasu in Arizona, on the California border, there was an extremely serious crash involving 2 boats on the Colorado River. Between the 2 vessels, it involved 16 people. It occurred around 8 in the evening. Live accident victims were picked up by other boaters as much as 5 miles away from the scene, due to the strong currents of the mighty Colorado. 3 of the 4 that lost their lives were recovered in the following few days. Raegan Heitzig was yet unlocated.

I was contacted by Tabby Grawbowski, who lost her husband, niece and 2 friends and was able to leave with Beth on a 28-hour drive on Thursday October 4th. When we arrived, we were graciously greeted by Deputy Cox, of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department. We were given a tour and information to get our search initiated.

We were put in contact with Harriet McLearen through Tabby. Harriet has been unbelievable and unstoppable in providing us contacts and exposure so that we have had a place to stay, meals and other needs during our stay. She is a busy woman who supports the community and is therefore supported by it as well. This entire community is above the norm in its support for each other and for us, to say the very least. The families, friends, total strangers, the municipalities and volunteers are amazing.

For the following morning, we were grateful to see our friends John and Matt from the Reno area, who live another 9 hours away from this search. They have joined us on other searches as volunteers as well. They have been an integral part of our team towards the west and are beyond generous. They are problem solvers, jacks of all trades, and have the physical and mental stamina to do many hours on the boat with us. We can simply not say enough about them.

The 4 of us set out the next morning with the assistance and escort of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department and their Volunteer Search and Rescue Group. They assisted us and kept us safe throughout the search. This is a busy area and their help was very important to us and deeply appreciated.

We began our search near the crash site and, over the 5 next days, we covered the 18 mile stretch of the river in likely areas with our sonar. We checked the deep hole areas, where it was unsafe for divers to dive previously, with our Outland Technologies ROV. Many Sonar targets were checked with the ROV as well. Visual magnified shore search from the boat was also done in all the likely areas. We also searched the mouth of the river approximately a mile out into Lake Havasu. We located 2 boats inadvertently by sonar, one was 27 feet long and one was 16 feet long.

Our last day was spent covering more sonar area and doing more visual shore searching. We also rechecked the Topock Marina and other docks nearby the crash site. Once we have covered an area, as we have done for this search, it is very hard to move on to our next search. This river area is very large and has an extreme current, making a huge amount of possible results for Raegan’s location. These results could take months to cover with still no result. We are saddened for her family and friends and have hopes and prayers for her earthly body to yet be located by some other means.

Fuck. Was really hoping BrucesLegacy would find this young lady and return her to her family and friends, so they could get closure.

RIP

When I saw the update on FB, my heart sunk for the family.

Why wouldn’t they search down river? It’s seems to read that they only searched a mile off the mouth.

Heart broken right now. I hope her family can still find peace and eventually closure from this tragedy.

I wonder if they could give like 1-2 week notice to everyone on the river and shut down the flow at Mohave dam shut down all ramps , air boat could still move around . It’s almost winter People could put river life on hold for 1 day for this young lady if she is stuck ( lack of better words ) in the river ? And if not found in river they would know she’s in the lake . Just my .02

I'm just going to throw this out there. There's this couple that travels around and searches for bodies in the water and they are considered the best. When all else fails people call them to locate the people in the water. In fact when my friends couldn't be found we called this couple and they were headed our way. We found them before they arrived.

They don't charge anything, they just ask for room and board. They have located many bodies here in NorCal that authorities couldn't including areas like The Delta and Lake Tahoe. Someone might want to give them a call.

I'm really sorry to hear that they didn't find her.:( I have quoted my post above because it has a link to another couple that does the same thing as Bruce's Legacy and they are also very good. If anyone involved with the search or a family member or friend is reading this you might want to call them.

Very disappointing effort . I think there was a lot of built up hope that these people were going to bring closer to the family ,friends and the rest of the boating community . Very sad attempt . There must be more to the story on why they are pulling the plug on there attempt to find her . I too hope people are able to find closer . Very sad

I don't think it is fair to criticize the search efforts from Bruce's Legacy. We know nothing about other commitments, funding, etc.

BrucesLegacy is a non-profit and the funds raised for this search ran out. They would of continued but ran out of $$ to continue the efforts.

See my post above
They ran out of money to support this search and forecasted it would take months to search south of the river entrance

I'm in for $100! If all us members donate I'm sure we can raise enough money for Reagan to be found.

I wonder how much we would have to gather to get another week of funding for their efforts. I really feel for all effected by this.

I was out the other day and found an (older life vest) orange, (not square) pretty water logged, around the power lines. I'll post a pic tomorrow just to rule out it might have been on one of the boats, as it is unique enough to be a yes or No piece. :(

Would it be a bad idea to raise funds to support a reward for finding her? I mean, if the goal is to get as many volunteers out searching the many miles of shoreline, I would have to think a little cash could motivate some who have the time and equipment to search.

I rarely respond to threads as sad as this, my prayers have been going out to all involved since the onset. I just wish the first responder's would have sent a unit with spotlights to the Topock I40 bridge to look for the missing...

I think doing a fundraiser for Bruce's Legacy or the other mentioned team( if the family wants to work with them)is what we can successfully put forth.
