Going to Virginia, not a history buff...Drink, Heavily. If you don't drink, I suggest fried food and local greasy spoons. If you're a healthy type...and don't drink...I hope you're staying in a nice place.

Yeah, not really a civil war buff.

You don’t need to be a civil war buff to pay homage to some of the battlefields/sites and the men that fought there. Some really horrific events took place to afford us the lives & liberties we enjoy today.

It’s a pretty humbling and eerie experience. Guess I’m strange in that way.

The Colonial Williamsburg site is interesting and worth the day it will take to see it.

Washington DC is not very far away and it is what it is.

Newport News has the Mariner's Museum. Norfolk and Richmond really don't have much.

Not strange at all. I toured Gettysburg when stationed in NY. Standing on it and seeing just how small that field is was extremely, well you said it already, humbling and eerie.

Girls put a lunch together and we picnic’d on the tables under the flight path at Reagan Airport. It was really fun:

Theirs a small launch ramp there too and the Jet Ski launchers were all tied in knots. Lots of drama.

Lunch or “supper” at the old Ebbitt in DC.
Ride the metro train in and back out.
The station is just a few blocks away.
If the lower bar is busy their is an
Upstairs bar. Lots of character, energy and great prices. Entree’s, Apps and cocktails under $90 for 4 tip incl.
The food is great and excellent seafood.
They actually put the names of the fishermen and oyster boats (poverty boats according to the Captains) on the menu.

National Harbor is cool with great eateries and entertainment.
We had fun at Bobby McKeys.
Our girls all loved it:

The Smithsonian is a short walk too.
We did it all a couple weeks ago.
