It was a really loud convoy, I was northbound on Western in Hollywood and people were sticking their heads out of their windows pedestrians stopped walking and everyone was in awe taking pictures and I'm thinking "You liberal idots, that is your President".

Except I know who it is and I voted for him, they probably don't even know who or what was going on.
How can you possibly know who some random people on the street looking at some helicopters In the sky voted for. Profile much...lol :)

Looks big for a C-17, but the pic is probably a little deceiving, Airforce one is probably not as close as it appears.
They have two C-5 Galaxy's and three C-17 Globemasters.Spent the last ten years of my aircraft maintenance career in Las Vegas and Air force one and the C-17 was the Aircraft I always saw but I stand corrected they do still use the C-5's that transport the limousines and secret service vehicles and looking at that pic its got a lot of wheels on the main landing gear and is the C-5.They parked about one hundred yards from our building. One visit Had two secret service sharp shooters hang out at our office for a few minutes before they went up on the roof three hours before the president arrived.I'm not to knowledgeable about rifles but the hardware they had in the cases in their suburban were bad ass.

Flew home from Germany in one of those beasts (C-5), no windows and the seats face the rear not the front. Long flight and we got to go into the cock pit where the pilot was sitting with his legs crossed doing a crossword puzzle, he told us he was just there to get it in the air and back on the ground when needed, push a couple buttons and it flies itself, this was back in the early 80's.

Oh I know the C-17 is big but it's little compared to a C-5.

What is interesting, I drive for work. Whenever fuckbag obama would be in socal he would have half of the streets shut down in the LA area for no fuckin reason. Yesterday traffic was a breeze compared to usual Friday asshole traffic. Thank you my president!

Around 6:30 2 F 35 Raptors came slowly cruising by headed from East To West over La Quinta. That was just after seeing that C 5 cruse by 5-10 mins before. That thing is HUGE!!!

The fighters are a coincidence most likely. AF1 doesn't travel with fighter escorts in the USA and rarely does over seas either, to much of a show-of-force. What most people don't see is that on extended trips, say over seas, a second airframe shadows AF1 and is staged close by so that the President can be quickly removed if something happens to the primary airplane.

We were in Palm Beach headed home one Sunday. Sitting in the airport watching the airplane take-off, suddenly there goes AF1. I told the girls, "Look, there goes the President!". They thought it was cool. That airplane was the only one that tookoff or landed for a few mintues. Later, a kid was talking to his sister about it and he mentioned that "Two fighter jets took off right after AF1!". He ceartainly believed it, but no fighters left before or after the big Boeing.

They weren't in Yorba Linda, Bobby. :p

Check out the main landing gear on the Antonov AN-124. Twenty big tires and wheels, ten on each side. The nose landing gear is a duplex arrangement, and it has a kneeling mode, which moves the gear about 45° from vertical to allow loading through the opening made by the huge nose section.

The aircraft also has two 15 ton capacity overhead cranes located in the overhead of the massive rear cargo bay.

Antonov AN-124. Someone is moving some large cargo! I hope to see the AN-225 one day!

Back around 1994, I spotted the monstrous AN-225 Mriya (Dream) at McCarran International in Las Vegas, parked on the northeast corner of the ramp next to the perimeter fence.

My wife and I parked on the street, got out of the car, and stood there looking at it, almost with our mouths hanging open like a couple of Arkansas rubes. It's freekin' huge, with six turbofan engines hung on the wings. Only the Hughes H-4 Hercules, better known as the Spruce Goose, has a larger wingspan.

The Mriya was built to transport the Buran, the USSR's answer to the Space Shuttle program. The Buran made just one flight, which was automated and flown without a crew. The two Burans that were built are now rotting hulks.

It's a beautiful aircraft. I would love to see it take off and fly away. That's gotta be an unforgettable sight.

You are so lucky to have seen the Mriya! I understand with regard to its purpose in carrying the Buran. I am kind of a fan of Soviet aerospace (totally minor league) and have seen the AN-124 at Long Beach airport in the past. I hope to see this big bird (AN-225), the remains of the Ekronoplan (never happen), and hitch a ride on an Antonov, Tupolev or Ilyushin someday.
