I think that's the way the law always was, but maybe now they're thinking of enforcing it?

This has been enforced for years.
Uhaul and Edison's 'subs' are Commercial, different ballgame
Uhaul is fleet. Hq is in Phoenix, that's why the AZ plates.

Hmmm wonder what prompted that? It’s an obvious law but why are they trolling Needles utility customers

I dunno, my guess would be people living across the river in AZ but being gainfully employed on the CA side ? Or working and living on the CA side but registering their vehicles in AZ ?

You need to go to DMV and get a commuter sticker. I always had one, they look like a boat registration decal and are good for two years. I live in Parker and worked in Blythe Ca. I know lots of people including my wife that have received tickets from C.H.P. , and the Sherriff for not having commuter stickers.

That's interesting, didn't realize they had such a thing. Over 20 years ago my best buddy was living with us during the week and working for us here in San Diego, but his residence and family were in Lake Havasu. He often commuted home on weekends. As much as he never got cited, he was certainly pulled over several times and questioned, usually by a CHP who took notice of him traveling the same route at the same time. After explaining his situation and apparently satisfied that his employment was certainly temporary, they stopped hassling him. Although they were technically right based on the law, seems they just gave him a pass.
Don't recall him every mentioning a commuter sticker.

Want a job where you always drive new trucks? Go to Oregon for UPS. Their new fleet starts in Oregon, aged to eliminate sales tax and then shipped for use in Kommifornia.

I think the politicians in CA have finally admitted to themselves at least, people are tired of their tax schemes and have either moved out of CA or are playing the out of state registration game.

They want the money to give free shit to those who might be influenced to vote for them, thus keeping them in power.

Obvious effort by the politicians to make the law enforcement agencies "cover their costs" by using them as - here's a very old term: REVENUE AGENTS

Everything in politics is about $$$ and votes and your politicians won't ever stop increasing taxes - never ever.

Leaving Taxifornia was the smartest thing I've done in a long, long time. But, it wasn't smart to wait so long

Being the yard office for the BNSF for my division is in Needles they have posted this a few times recently on the door and fences. As 75-80% of us are Az or Nv I’ve been waiting to see what they do or legally can do.

That letterhead looks like it's out of the 70's (written by a typewriter). It should look like this with Governor Asswipe III instead of Asswipe I

State of California—Business, Transportation and Housing Agency ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL Business Services Section Contract Services Unit P.O. Box 942898 Sacramento, CA 94298-0001 (916) 375-2965 (800) 735-2929 (TT/TDD) (800) 735-2922 (Voice)

Got pulled over leaving Jack Smith last weekend by CHP in the 20 mph zone. Stated reason was for tint, next question was if we received mail at our Bullhead house. I’ve got a feeling they’re stepping up their enforcement of this. CHP used to hang out there a lot in the past but stopped for a few years.

theres always been big fines with anything that has wheels if your primary residence is in CA and using your lake house to skirt CA registration and having em registered in AZ. You can legally do the boat as you can say your primary boating body of water is in AZ, but *NOT* the car. truck and trailer is CA, boat is AZ. having an AZ trailer with a CA truck... big no no.

Not a damn thing when it comes down to it if you fight it. The car spends more time out of state than it does in the state.

Not even sure that second bullet is accurate. I was employed by a CA company for years but my residence was AZ. Ca company had my work location as my home address.

Yes the whole thing is a shakedown.

Even if I got a ticket for a AZ trailer behind a CA car it would be easy to fight that if you had an AZ address.

Not if you have a CA DL.
If your a CA resident all wheels must be CA registered even if you have an AZ address.
Way around that, but that get into who owns the wheels (my trust to going to own all my wheels soon).

Yes there are a bunch of ways to get around it.

I get that its the letter of the law, but that is literally impossible. You are violating the laws of other states if you do that.

If I have a truck I keep in my home in AZ, registered in AZ. by the letter of CA law I need to register it just do drive it into the state... yet by leaving it in AZ with a CA plate I'm breaking their registration laws.

Harder to get around it when the CHP pulls you over in Vidal Junction, then instead of simply issuing a ticket for an AZ licensed trailer behind a CA DL and CA licensed Motorhome -- he escorts you to Needles and into the Needles DMV to re-register in front of him ---- True story when my buddy was towing his AZ Numbered Lavey to LHC for a weeks vacation.

So your buddy did that to AVOID a ticket?

I'd fight that until I was dead from heat exhaustion. I'd have the cop show me where it is illegal to bring my own property that is stored out of state into the state for less than 10 days.

Write me the ticket if you have to, or get your supervisor out here.

Wait,,,, the trailer was AZ registered, or the boat?? CHP got nothing to do with the boat.

Knew a guy that that had an AZ registered boat that not only never left Ca but the ballsy Fuck would buy an annual sticker for Lake Don Pedro and the dumb ass rangers never said a word while filling out the paper work with his registration in hand. Don't know about the trailer.

But why ? non-resident AZ isn't cheap by any means, unless his boat would have cost him a bundle in Ca property taxes ?

Yes.

I hit submit too soon LOL. Post edited.

Kevin's rational was simple --- he wasn't doing the AZ reg to save a dime, he simply didn't know any better. He was heading out for a week, he wasn't about to wrestle the CHP over some dumb-ass license plate F-up. Not to mention, going through it all again in on some future trip. Once taken care of, life was good again :)

How in the world can they begin to enforce that? Neither city PD nor CHP have the time, manpower or desire to enforce registration. I can drive around OC for an hour and see literally 20 a 30 cars with expired registration stickers. Some are over 3 years past due. It's so prevalent we make a game of spotting them. And many are on cadillacs, BMWs, and other expensive cars.

What consequences?

CA trailer registration for a boat trailer and most utility trailers is super cheap, something like $80 for 5 years.

I think it's nuts that CHP is sitting on a 2 lane road, a few miles off the highway, to catch people coming out of a marina for tint. WTF. And it was CHP, not Sherriff?

I did this because ca assessed luxury tax at 1% to my property tax. About 500 per year and still had a reg fee of about 200. As had a 80 reg fee and 200 non resident fee so I saved about 400 per year. Trailer was reg in ca though. DMV gave me a hard time when I brought the trailer in for vin check why there was no boat on it....i told them you dont need a boat to own a boat trailer. SBoE always sent me threatening letters in the mail but never responded.
My boat was primarily used in havi though

I've been ticketed on Rice Rd too, but not by the guy you describe, but I was sitting on the side of the road in my girlfriends boat while she drove to Parker to get the flat trailer tire repaired. Just happened to be the hottest day of the year. The officer you're talking about rolled up and checked on me. He couldn't have been any nicer. Asked how much water I had and told me If I felt I was getting in trouble from the heat to call 911 and he'd get there as fast as he could. Gotta admit I was thrown a little by the plugs in both ears though.

CHP has always gone after non Ca. Plated trailers, they don’t care about the boat reg. as the river is divided. The State pension is bleeding out, and UBER, etc. has killed DUI revenue so CHP is going after the out of state plate, Ca. Resident issue to supplement the loss. Every DMV office has the forms to snitch on out of state plates in ca.
It’s at the point some Big Ca. City pension plans are trying to apply Ca. Income taxes on retired city employees that move to states that don’t have income tax. Huge legal battle but I could see a lot of the Same Cities taking away cost of living increases (COLA) to retirees who leave Ca. Much easier to change.
I have no dog in the fight, just passing on what’s going on.
