I would like to know why some Turbo 400 owners
use Dextron III and some use Type F and some use Dex/Merc?

Art Carr says Dextron III
Craig's High Performance says Type F

Absolutely Dextron 3

Ford type f has an abrasive in it.

Even modern Ford transmissions don't use type F.

I get leery leary about DexIII since it's no longer spec'd by GM. Dex VI is backwards compatible and better in every way. I also toss Lube Guard in every thing

I'm not an additive fan but LubeGuard is the only company to get actual OEM approval's and be used is TSB's with success. It's good stuff

I've been running dex III in my truck for 17 years no problem, then someone told me to try dex VI
So I did now the output shaft seal leaks.
The shop told me that dex VI is a lower viscosity than dex III

It is lower viscosity and synthetic base stock but I'm guessing the detergents ij the new ATF had more to do with the seal leak than the thinner viscosity. TheTdex vi probably cleaned up some crud that was keeping it from leaking.
