Anyone that has been on RDP for the last ten years would know I am a big fan of Prime Marine. They have undoubtedly put out the finest custom boats on the West Coast and do it on the regular. Not only do they do some of the best installation work they always do it with style.

Most of the projects you are going to see today and just in the beginning stages which is perfect for follow ups into the future!

Let’s start with a Holy grail 210..

These are the “before” pictures. You can see the boat has been fitted with an extension box and other than that it’s fairly stock. The boat will be built completely and then disassembled, painted by Billy B and then put back together again!

When you see what’s coming it will become obvious that those tabs will be a thing of the past. Lol

Helm currently. I would have to imagine this boat will end up Having a foot throttle when done, but will be interesting to see what Mike and the owner decide on.

Bilge before pics.

In the words of ACDC “Are you ready for a good time?”

How about a Pfaff PsI motor? Lol. That’s what is getting ready to go in the boat!

IMCO SCX - 4! For the drive!

I won’t spoil the surprise on the theme but it’s going to be bad ass.

This 22 Schiada is underway and you are about to see style and execution.. The reasons why I love the work Prime does.

Cavitation Plates are in and the backing plate and some of the pillow blocks..

Take a look at the vents! And what about the drain plug?

This is what I’m talking about my friends.. it’s the little things that matter!

Look at the grab handles and vents. With an engine hatch on you won’t be able to see through them, it will just be the mesh material and dark.

V drive is in and mid plate. Kind of surprised the owner didn’t go with Prime’s billet cases for the v drive but it looks bad ass the way it is as well.

This is the transom / bilge of the 22. You can see each shop has their own styles on each individual boat.

You can see how they tied the ski pole into the lower rigging. On the right you can see their cantilever to get the pull rod for the cab plates lower to under the floor.

You can also note they are doing angle with uprights as opposed to Schiadas Z rail.

On the top of their angle you will see little pads. Those pads are stainless steel and the motor mounts coming off of the motor plate will rest on those. What that will allow is later you can unhook the driveline and slide the engine back and forth a couple inches for testing, maintenance and removal. It’s a pretty truck setup and a prime marine trade mark. (Along with other things)

A lot of people put in water dumps.. Prime marine flush mounts them into the hull. ;)

They were drilling the transom while I was there.. I’d be so nervous I’d probably drop the drill. Lol

I had someone tell me a little while back.. “There’s only so much you are going to do with an I/O installation.

Before I jump into the next boats I just wanted to point out that Prime doesn’t just build crazy exotic boats. They are a normal service shop as well!

They had four or five regular production boats at the shop while I was there!

The 22 is my buddy’s boat. Wait till you see the exhaust setup....this will be one of the most custom Schiada’s of all time.

3 bilge plug holes? Why?

And drilling the transom mount holes in the transom freehand? Hell even I have a jig...

transomfixture1.jpg

It could just be an action shot for ol 'RD. It almost looks like the transom is already cut/drilled in the picture.

I love the 24 that's a beautiful boat!!! Thanks for sharing with us.

I don't know how many of the inmates here, who appreciate the beauty of the 24 Schiada, realize that it was originally designed and built in 1970....that's 48 years ago and people still think it's cool. My dad and I collaborated with Leonard on the build back then and took delivery of the first 24 custom flat-deck in late 1970 (it was a wood deck, glassed and painted). The shape of the custom wood deck was a little different configuration and slightly longer than the fiberglass molded version that followed some years later. And the hull was a true vee, not a delta pad keel. For those who didn't know Leonard, he was one of the most honest and hard-working guys in the boat business. Our bill for our custom V-drive 24 in 1970 (everything complete, less engine was $7800 and some change, and that included a tandem axle Competitive Trailer). I think the old boat is still around -- last I heard Mike King who still puts in a few hours rigging and fabricating at Prime Marine still has it.

Yeah, I laughed when I saw that...there is NFW on a build of this caliber he's doing that without a jig. I tried, very carefully to get the holes in the right spot on my new transom...even used a tap block to make sure they were straight. Drill walked all over the place. Luckily for me, I was going way oversize and filling them with epoxy, so I DGAF. Made a jig for a final drilling.

I’m not sure why they were doing it freehand to be honest. I’m sure there is a reason.

The water dump routed into the hull is a pretty sweet deal! Always cool to see the stuff prime comes up with

Mikey and his crew are incredibly talented. They do everything from basic maintenance on the family runabout, to full-blown customs. They're currently installing motor, outdrive and exhaust in our Howard.

Mike King at Prime set up my boat. Didn't do a complete re-rig (close) and what they didn't redo I regret not redoing. But all in all 3 years later I'm still super happy with it. Mike Ramirez is super cool to deal with.

Those PSI blowers are so sick.

I believe I have seen the blue 24' Schiada at the springs a few times. The boat is sweet.

I just happened to run across this thread last night somehow, and like I said, saw the picture of my cousin drilling the transom. He been there for quite a few years, and knows his stuff. He’s helped me on my boats a handful of times with thing I didn’t happen to know. All of the guys there are very talented and pay great attention to detail
