My 19.5 tunnel hull jet boat didn’t make the wife happy so I decided to buy a 23”10 76 Hallett V drive. Now I have two old badass boats and can’t wait to finish the Vdrive.

I already picked up a basic crate 454 with super low miles. Just need to source a pair of seats or make some new ones as the original driver and right side buckets were missing..

Jim Wilkes did the tanks and the turbo 400 and Casale 500 apparently it was an ex race boat called lickitysplit?? If anyone has any info on this old girl I would love to here it. It was originally fitted with a velvet drive and a borg Warner... the original owner was local here in Huntington Beach Ca.

Nice Hallett cruiser. I believe you have a split case Casale and not a C500, that's a good thing. I have an old Hallett cruiser, 1978 20' SS, and they are built like a tank. Look forward to seeing more pics.

you might want to see if you can catch Jim out his shop. I think hes still there a couple times a week, I think he was at least a year or two back when I stopped in there. I'm sure he can give you some more info if you bring him some pics. Hes a nice guy.

You can also maybe hit up the guys on https://www.performanceboats.com/v-drives/ there are more v-drive guys over there than over here (or maybe just more action, who knows)

I have a 21' rayson v-drive and am in Riverside.

Well I was not the original owner but I did sell it to the guy you purchased it from. I have a lot of inside info on the boat. If you'd like after the holiday I can call you and answer any questions you may have. you are going to need to make some small changes to the set up if you're going to run a 454.

Mocked up the emi thunder headers I’ll need to get some angle cut valve covers. Looking forward to moving forward on this big girl.

Correct.....and waaaaaaay better than a C500. ;)

Please explain the difference and what makes the C-500 an inferior drive unit.

Thanks, Brian.

Soooooouper expensive gears, very hard to swap said gears.

Gooofymotherfuckinmounting. That alone is enough of a reason.

Need more?

Then, I guess I would call that, inferior. Given the ease and availability of the "split case", Mr Beaverfab, sir. :)

Brian

Brian there not inferior there just a pain in the ass to work on , and gears are hard to find.

Of the two, which will accommodate the most power?

Considering I haven't seen a C500 in a fueler......I guess that answer is simple. ;)

A man of your stature, should already know that answer. :)

The only "advantage" is that the C500 is quieter than the split case. You mostly find them in big heavy cruisers. Given a choice, I'd take the split case all day long.
