Definitely not rough water capable, but they do haul the mail.

Why would you want to run 130+ in a TUFF 28 in rough condition? What I meant to say is, you would want a Outerlimits 42 to do that, and even in the OL you'd have to pull back on the sticks down to 80 in real 4-5 footers. I'm sure the TUFF 28 could run pretty good in Havasu's worse, along Dave's Schiada, using proper trim.;)
Typical water condition any day in the ocean in English Bay you don't shoot for record breaking speeds. BTW, the boat in the picture is Don's stolen 35 Nordic to look out for.

Does that make the Tuff the new fastest single engine V-bottom?

I was under the impression it was closer to 29 in real life. But yes it does well off shore but very very few do at that short of a hull and they still can’t run fast in the real rough

I'd absolutely LOVE to see a 28 Skater with 300s run against ANY 28 V bottom with similar power. I know they are different classes but it would be fun to see, in my opinion.

28’ 6”

Right in the middle, but Lavey doesn’t name their models with a rounded up size. That 28 EVO raceboat shares the same bottom mold as the Lavey 2750 NuEra

I've seen video of the 28 Evo running hard in big water. What power do they run in those races?

When that orange 28 raceboat was with Lavey running the SVL class it always had the stock Merc 525 running low 90 mph range.
In its current form with Team Woody Racing it has a KPE built engine, not sure of the specs but I think its in the 700hp range and 100+ mph

Thanks for the info!! Would be amazing to see a 28 with 7-800hp run against a 28 Skater with 600hp side by side. The Lavey has some great lines & run very well.

I've known that Lavey ^^^ ran real good in offshore racing. Is the stringer system and bulkheads are the same as a production model 2750 NuEra?
The 28 Pantera is a tank, so it runs great in the slop, albeit slower than other 28's? I ran a old 24 Pantera single BB [ narrow beam ] in the ocean and it's a great rough water boat for its size.

My buddy's 47 Aronow [ Not a Pantera as it says on its side ] has triple S/C 502's, runs like the BigBoy locomotive on rails in rough seas. It's painted all black now. It should have some modern big cube power in it though but my buddy just using it as a cocktail cruiser:eek::D.The boat was made to run fast in any kind of water in comfort.

This is a sister to my friend's

The stringer setup is the same exact as the 2750 NuEra, the bulkhead setup is slightly different because the cross bulkhead underdeck is designed to be the separation between the love seats and sleeper where on the raceboat it connects a smaller cross bulkhead with two forward running bulkheads because of the deck lifting rings. So basically the same amount of bulkheads, just layed out different for different application.

Sorry to hijack this TUFF thread. I’ve been following the company since the twin 300xs and twin 400R boats and also the 860 boat. The speeds these boats put up are very impressive and they all look super stable in the waters that they make these high speed runs!

Those Tuff are pretty ugly boats if you ask me

You know what? Someone said once looking at this boat my friend builds, is old and ugly:rolleyes: Guess, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What boat did you build so we could judge your design;):p.

That’s fine, and I’m sure that’s one of the reasons you don’t own one, not every boat looks good to everyone.

I personally like the look. I’ve always been a fan of bigger sized boats with low cut decks and flat decks. It just gives it some type of hot rod race boat look. The only complaint I have is the rear end. They need to do a better design so every engine isn’t sticking out of the hatch, and I don’t like those ricer looking racing seats.

I like the lines of it.
Low, sleek.
It’s void of frills and fancy, which I like.
It’s fast, which I like
Perhaps some sharper gelcoat..:D

I still want to see one in 1' swells. I have to think they are hard to handle when they aren't sitting on the pad. 137 is a hell of an accomplishment.

I checked out a beautiful Tuff 28 w/ twin 300xs's for sale in Florida last month.

It was very trick (custom paint, carbon fiber rear hatch with sun pad, carbon fiber composite boarding/step platforms, dual wall c-channel aluminum trailer, etc) looked amazing in person, pics don't do it justice.

Not mine, but I can put any interested parties in touch with the seller.

That 28 Tuff was built by one of the best in the OB business and then the owner added more. One of a kind and very trick as you say.

I don't have a ton of experience in a lot of boats, but isn't "how does it run in moderate chop" extremely subjective? I mean, it's a 28' boat. I ran my 19' Daytona Daycruiser jet boat during the biggest weekends Havasu had and I was fine. In the air a lot, but fine.

Are there certain safety issues boats like this have when it gets choppy, or are you worried it's going to be more bumpy than other boats this size?

I think they look good but tell us how they run in moderate chop. I have asked the company a few times and they don't respond.

The way the hydraulic steering was set up on mine it gets uncontrollable in moderate boat chop above 50 mph. Below that it's rock solid even over several different wake surf rollers converging in the same area. I had the serious pucker factor going as I approached them but the boat handled them with ease.

The boat was rigged with the Capilano helm and the Sea Star Pro ram, those two do not play well with one another. In small wind chop the boat is still difficult to keep on the pad but handles a lot better. The steering does not react fast enough to keep up the what the boat is doing so some changes are needed. Planning on ski racing with it so it is apart now, hopefully completed by the October races at Havasu Springs.

As mentioned it's a 21. I think once I get the steering issues resolved it will handle rough water well, currently does great below 50 in very sloppy water at Lake Elsinore.

This is what I was looking at. If any of these boats can run in the snot between 40-50.

I think they are a cool hotrod! Surprised they haven’t taken off more on the west coast.

I don't think they are advertised very well out here. The 21 is based on the old Challenger hull and there never were many of those out on the west coast but there are a ton of them in the northeast. There is also the import issue as the boats are made in Canada and the fact that the factory is not very responsive to inquires. You have to be really persistent to get a response.

30 gallon belly tank, would be happier with a 40 gallon but Mark will only put a 30 in the 21.
I'll have to go out an measure the cockpit depth.
Gel.
