Plotting the same idea but jobs tie us here. In Ag, California is the gorilla in the room. Nothing quite the same.

A couple weeks I pulled up next to a big nice Maserati with CA plates. I rolled my window down a gave the guy a little wave to roll his down...When he did I says nice car man but someone vandalized the back. He says WHAT! I said ya man someone put a CA plate on it. He wasn't very amused by that.

So Id have to only get 5 mpg to have it be a wash to one way to Vegas.
It’s still $500 cheaper at 5 mpg to round trip it rather than one way.
At 10 mpg it’s even cheaper yet.
Also, if I round trip it saves a one way flight from Vegas to retrieve Tahoe and boat.
No brainer. Just more road miles.
Hell 600 miles is nothin for me.

Check out Allegiant Air out of Stockton for flights. If you book a couple of weeks in advance, $45 each way, a couple of days, $100 each way. Direct flight and airport parking is $10 a day.
Bar at the airport is 1/2 price of Sac.

No doubt a lease. Probably blew threw his allotted miles if he's in your neck of the woods. :D

Never really agreed with any of the Ca ideas anyhow.

Don’t worry, we won’t California Nevada

Too late! Thanks to Clark County and Washoe (Reno), we now have a POS democrap governor that is trying to turn NV into CA as quickly as possible. These is a recall movement though but not sure if it is going to be successful.

Most of NV would love to turn Clark County over to CA. We don't want it!

A little bit of a delay. Because the lady buying the chino house was late with her funding yesterday, we are late with ours today. Not going to get keys until maybe noon tomorrow. So it’s the Best Western tonight. Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow.

Unfortunately my moving guy/brother is leaving so I’ll have to figure out how to unload this truck tomorrow

Hoping to add to the RED vote here. There is a reason we’re in BC and not Henderson or any other Vegas suburb

Been here 13 years now and have always said if Ca. adopted some of the Az highway rules would probably ease some traffic. Like having the diamond lane open to single drivers after hours, weekends especially. Good luck with the move and new digs Riley.
We have that here in NorCal.

Good luck the move . Hell ya

I just don’t know where to start or how to get out of this screwed up calif state .

I started by renting storage, giving notice to landlord, and moving out.

But it’s easier for me. I have almost never lived where I work, and am by myself.
Still, it took getting out of that house first. Wasn’t easy logistically or physically. Nor was it cheap.
But it’s been 3 days since I turned in the keys and I’m sitting at the nautical wet bar, signed lease yesterday (1 day of searching) on a cool house for $100 less than the much smaller house I rented in CA, handled utilities today and am leaving for work tomorrow.
I’ve got a few trips and some more cash to hemorrhage before it’s all done, but I’m already wondering WHY I waited a year.

It is definitely a “ph”.
But I won’t hold it against ya Zig.

And her whole family calls her “A”. Even her mom can’t get her name right half the time. And she picked it. lol

Welcome to the neighborhood. Well kinda—I’m between College and Horizon Ridge against the mountains (this area runs Red too) but out there all the time.
Remember to leave all CA values behind, your in NV now. Drive in the left lane only to pass. Waive to your neighbors. Hold the door open for the person behind you.
When your ready to find some local hotspots let us know.

I love that little town. Wife's sister, adult nieces and nephews live out there. It really has that old town Americana feel. When I was there I didn't see in gang bangers, taggers, vagrants, problems, etc. I'm sure, just like every city there's issues but geez it seemed like a really nice place to live. Right down the road from a bitchen lake too. Congrats!

Regarding the flood gates open to leave Ca. My tax guy did his own little survey. He does taxes for civil servants and does about 3500 returns each tax season. He pooled 500 or so of his clients and asked them - A) Do you 100% plan to leave Ca upon retirement B) 100% plan on staying C) Undecided. Roughly 12 said they planned on staying and 12ish were undecided. Every single other one said they were leaving. I think it's worse than the media leads on (shocking, I know).

12 of 26 In my Station are either already gone or leaving out of state at retirement.

The out of state retirement rate is easily 50% or higher in the first responder field, especially for LA.

I can pretty much travel to any part of Texas or the Carolinas/Tennessee and visit former co workers.
The true sign of the exodus is the pics of retired guys meeting up in the monthly work paper (The Blue Line). The group photos of out of state meet ups are sometimes bigger than the retired Ca. Groups.
Plan is to be in the AZ group pic one day, lol

I can tell you first hand the cash you make in California goes a long way in most other states. So many retired police and fire getting a nice pension living in the less expensive areas of the country. I have also seen quite a few people move to Havasu, stop boating and bitch about the summers. I guess people like to bitch.

My parents retired from LAPD which is why I’m here in AZ because that’s where they moved upon retirement. My uncle still works LAPD though.

Welcome to BC. Coincidentally I saw you guys on the 215 yesterday as I was headed home from work. Nice looking boats! And yes, we need all the help we can get with the red. Hope you enjoy your newfound freedoms, at least until the NV-to-CA transition completes.

True. My Dad put in 30 on the fire department and has now been retired for 30+ years, 27 of those in Havasu.

We have a widow of an Officer killed overseas that moved to TN about six years ago. The difference on the dollar was 33% better there. She sold a track home in YL in the $700's and bought several acres and a much larger home in TN.
The cost of living equation works better in almost every other state sans Hawaii.

Yes for retirement. What about working as an Officer in almost every other state?

Usually based on cost of living, and number of jobs.

Ca. Has less Officers per citizen ratio than just about every other state.
Cost of living is higher in AK and HI, both of which pay more on average.

And training, requirements to get hired here are generally higher than all other states.

Heck, I almost fell over the other day when I found out a neighboring so cal academy has recruits fire only 200 rounds in training (!)
Ours shoot in excess of 2200 rounds before graduating and that’s still not enough.

Dry firing only carrys so far lol

Curious, I've looked at retired living in TN, mostly for the boating potential. How does she enjoy the cold-ass winters, hot humid summers and only having maybe four months of the year to enjoy the outdoors ?
My kinda younger wife's going to retire from an awesome CA job in a couple of years, so I'm looking for our retired living 'Holy Grail' almost daily on the web.
Been in Havasu for 26 years, wouldn't consider living there full time due to Summer assclowns, sweltering summer temps and lack of medical.
Love our AZ mountain ranch, but no real medical within 200 miles, plus should I croak, property up there takes a while to sell --- don't want to leave my wife trapped.

So seriously, we can afford to remain here in CA, but I'd like to leave and have a home & dock on the water --- just don't know where to go --- YET

I do certainly enjoy this subject being discussed here on RDP and enjoy reading all the points of view --- thanks :D

We have a really good friend (actually the guy that owns the Cigarette Tiger that RD was with at LOTO when he broke his ankle) who lives in Collierville Ten. (about 30 minutes outside of Memphis). It is absolutely STUNNINGLY beautiful. He's got a few acres in a very nice house probably valued at 400k. He also has a house on Baysprings Lake in Mississippi about 2 hrs s/e from his house. From that lake you can actually boat up through the river to Pickwick Lake that is a big party lake (and poker run lake). Collierville is very nice, very chill decent sized town. It's a 6 hr drive to LOTO (huge party / poker run / events lake), 5 hr drive to Lake Cumberland (huge party / poker run lake) and 2 hour drive to Pickwick Lake. He has a vee drive and a jet boat he leaves down in Baysprings and then the Cigarette for running around other lakes. The winters aren't that bad, like dusting of snow. Summers are hot and humid like anywhere else in the Midwest. Your Ca. dollar goes a LOOOOOONG way though.

House in Collierville and pics from the cabin and Baysprings lake.

I don't understand how you can be happy that tax paying citizens are leaving the state? That is like getting happy a tenant is moving out causing you to pay the mortgage yourself. I don't get it.
Seems like there are just as many people moving to CA has there are leaving for retirement. In some areas they can't build enough houses and many don't stay on the market very long. Construction in So Cal is booming right now.

I asked about that and I guess it was actually the original from the early 1900's but hadn't been in use in 50 years. He just tore it down and used the wood on it inside the cabin for window trim. Guess it was falling down.

Check one way U Haul rates

"The cost to rent a 26-foot U-Haul truck — big enough to move a three- to four-bedroom home — out of San Francisco headed to Las Vegas reached as high as $2,085 for four days. To rent the same truck going in the opposite direction is only a fraction of that cost — $132," the Union-Tribune reported.
