Built during the Depression by the CCC the Cistern.

Pictures don’t capture how majestic the area is. As beautiful as the desert gets:

The Cistern. Stone stairs on the right lead to the top and over to the bottom of the basin side also up the side stone face of the Gap. An easy climb up but a hairy, tricky decent. Don’t send the kids up:

24 miles of rough, non-maintained roads from I 15 inward. Not for everyone. It’s really rough on your RV.
The Road in from Az is occasionally graded dirt and gravel but much longer and still rough.
Limited unleveled camping.

Mostly European visitors in rented Subaru’s tent camping in the 98f heat. Outfitters rent the whole works. Roof box contains instant pop-up tents, camp chairs that fold up to the size of a loaf of bread, sleeping bags, cooking gear, 12v ice chest. Dialed in for the USA.

They are more fascinated with our dually and RV than the spectacular scenery.
We invite them in for real Champaign and cheese. They snap endless pix.
Crazy Americans with crazy stuff.

This has been an interesting 6 week trip.
Started in Mammoth Lakes and we’re working our way to Williams Az.

We currently stopped off at Samstown KOA in Vegas for a few nights.
Visiting Grandma Axehandle and family. We’ve been doing this trip for 15 years.

Samstown still has a decent $15 Buffett.
Cocktails and beer are expensive and I’ve been tipped off the machines are tighter than Whale sex and that’s water tight.
House of pain. Full of the Casino undead draped over seats, benches and food court booths.

The Vegas eye opener is the amount of street people now here in Vegas. It’s always been a lot but now it’s way, way more bums wandering around bothering others.

And it’s changed.

They congregate in packs in front of Little Caesar’s and block the entrance, ATM’s, fast food joints same thing. Its a plague. It’s everywhere along Boulder highway and miles down each connecting thoroughfare.

I took the family to see Mac King at Harrahs.
I recommend his show especially for families.
The price is right too though the Bastards wanted $15 to park.
Samstown shuttle bus is free. We took it in spite.

My wife looked so beautiful. Man O man did she love the Mac King Show. The whole family did.

Harrahs, once a class act when the old man ran it is now just another shop worn boiler room casino.

You're not kidding about how Vegas has changed....I've been there 3X in the last few months purely by chance, different meetings and a road trip pulled us in. The rooms in Vegas are cheap now, a nice suite at the Wynn for only 150 a night....they make it up with absurd food and drink prices. The really terrible part is the street people combined with the LA gang member crowd partying on the sidewalk in the center of the strip near Treasure Island. I used to enjoy walking the strip enjoying the eye candy and the circus but it can be flat out dangerous now........The drug epidemic is on full display on the Vegas strip nowadays, really sad.

Just got a text.
Family is still in LV visiting from all over.
They like to walk the entire strip and hit the Wynn Buffett.
They say the same.

We’re in route to Williams and stopped off in Quartzite for a few nights. Wife wanted to check out the Az Peace trail and the Fisherman Intaglio.

We did a night run up the wash to Als pizza. One of two full bar slop chutes open year round in Quartzite.

I’ve seen RV parks along Boulder Hy with monthly rates.
You’d have to call around for vacancies.
We only stay at Samstown. Dunno about the rest.

A couple enthusiastic off roaders have been publishing these atlas and they top everything else for navigation to points of interest.

Never know what you come across along the trails. Many areas it’s illegal to bury your pets so we sometime find bootleg pet Boot Hill cemeteries in the desert. Many graves have solar lights and the pets favorite play toy:

Nahh not yet.

Wife has been the navigator and we’ve been running sections of the APT, the old Yuma rd and one other I forget the name.

She’s been showing a lot of interest in it.
We’ve been a little stymied in the past with the trail maps and apps but found the trail atlas’s excellent. Worth the $20. Better readability and with a good GPS you are dialed in on the trails.

The way the wife is kicking around to do the 675 miles of the APT is everyone has their RV chase vehicle meet us at designated overnight stops. 7 to 10 day event.
Arizona is perfect for it.

Our X3 is a steamer, front wheels come off the ground when you floor it - it screams.

So with this performer in the family fleet now the Wife wants a 4 seat that is trail ready with a comfortable ride right outta the box.
No Shock therapy or other suspension Or performance mods or more money invested, just a plug and play - ready to roll trail SxS.

The new Honda Talon 4 with the Fox live valve shocks may be the answer. They claim it’s all that,, we’ll see.
We have to talk to owners first.

But only one extra parking spot in the garage and a 2020 X3 Max RR would look better in that spot.

We

Have you planned anything?
We will eventually.
Nothing planned yet- just added to the bucket list of trails to check out. My buddies want to do the Mojave Trail again- which we have already done- I am pushing for the AZ Peace Trail.

Heading south outside of Cibolia we hit a fork in the trail and took a right towards the river . We were lost for hours and burned a ton of gas . We made it in by dark but it was a long stressful day . Should of gone left ! Lol

Man o man have we done that.

Wife is a GPS fanatic and we need something more than navigating with an iPhone. Though an iPhone is pretty good.
Alice wants to invite Wonderhussy on the trip too. She’d really be a kick to have along.

The Bums in Vegas,

In Boulder City the police used to pick them up, and take them to the edge of town with a bus pass. We NEVER had any bums around for any extended time. They have set up in one of the local parks.... Several residents went to city council to ask WTF is going on, they say state law now says you can't do shit about it, new D Governor and D Legislature passed a law that bums must be provided shade, water, and restrooms, cannot be scurried out of public places they loiter in by the police. Lovely.

Great. The last few trips up I mentioned to my wife that there seemed to be quite a few more.

I thought that was a federal law. If the city has a shelter for them then and only then can they make the homeless move. A huge camp right outside my shop so I've been getting schooled up on that crap. The city I'm in is building a shelter now.
