@Tank I searched the pictures and this was an interesting fact.

My dad served in Vietnam in 65 and 66 in the Marines 2/4 and 3/7. He now goes to group meetings every Monday morning for support and his PTSD. (Mostly Vietnam vets)

A couple of years ago a new guy showed up he was a crew chief (I believe) and started telling a story of a battle he flew into, there was 1 injured soldier that stuck out to him that day, as he continued talking about it one of the other vets piped up. That 1 soldier was him being Medivacced out. Small world, they first met half way around the world and 50 years later they reunite again at the VA during a support group session.

That is crazy!

My uncle was a door gunner in Vietnam for a huey. I've always loved the hueys. I feel very lucky that I get to go up in one couple times a year. Love sitting in the gunner seat with the doors open. Few months ago I got to fly up front and take the stick for a bit. Pretty bitchen!

Some more Huey shots....7,000 roughly deployed to Vietnam. Over half shot down. Helicopter crew life expectancy was half of an infantry man But they had no shortage of volunteers.

Friends dad was a door gunner as well. He flew in to Vietnam got off the plane jumped into a Huey to go to the FOB and he couldn't figure out why everyone was sitting on their helmets. Less than 5 min later he figured it out when a round went through the floor and into his ass. So less than 5 min in country and he got his first of 3 purple hearts. LOL

Thanks for the pics Tank. My FIL(RIP) did 2 tours over there flying helicopters with the Dustoff guys, He's also a Purple Heart recipient. He told me he used to fly sitting on his .45 so he didn't get shot in the balls:p. This is one of the pics he took while over there.

A very good friend of mine was a door Gunner/crew chief in the Air Cav. Mid 60's before it all turned into a real shit show. He's got some stories for sure. He is a mechanic at the airport I worked at in High School. A "Huey" would show up and he'd tell you all about it. He liked the B model best since those were the gun ships.

Hard to believe this was all 50 years ago. Growing up the Vietnam vets were our dads and uncles and the war was only 10 years in the past...

He’s baaaaack!

Tank I don’t know how the hell you find these photos but they blow me away.

Thank you brother.

A lot of the stuff is from articles I read or quick online stories. If I see a cool pic I'll save it. Wait til theres a bunch saved up and I'll dump them into this thread. Sometimes, I'll be reading an article and it talks about something and I'll research it and find more cool photos. Either way, whenever I find good stuff I save it to post here.

The first time I saw this thread and all of your pictures I thought they were of your adventures, and I was jealous.

Ha. I wish. And it’s not really my thread. I believe brown started it. Others contributed. I really enjoyed the photos and looking through them and started collecting and adding my own. Now it seems I’m the only one that posts but it doesn’t have to be that way. ;)
