I'm gonna buy a new 3/4 ton work truck. Nothing fancy, just need AC, power locks & windows, 4x4, gas, rubber floor, cloth seats, long bed.
Always been a GM guy & had GREAT luck with all of my GM trucks & suburbans from Photoglu.
I really like the look of the new Ford.
I will drive both & make my decision. I honestly don't care to hear the GM vs Ford bullshit but I'm sure some guys can't resist.

Ram.

Edit: Just saw your post. Sounds like your mind is set based on past experience. Can't blame you. But, have you seen the newer Ram interiors? I was impressed (2018).

How soon you buying? If you can find a 2019 GMC might get a good discount. Not a fan of the new 2020 and this month is best time to buy a 2019 with rebates. If you like the 2020 body style the new gas 6.6 is available have not heard about MPG yet as they are new.

If you are looking for 2020 the new Ford 7.3 is not out yet. The 2020 Ford is the best looking and they are very roomy inside. Not sure if they are giving deals on the 2019 as 2020 are not available. I would hit up Bobby Williams. If he does not have what you like I got 2 other sales reps numbers from the auto show. One was my old Neighbor at Echo. He gave me a slip good for another 500 off any deal I find on Ford.

Hey Rob, hope all is well.

For what its worth I recently took delivery of a 2019 Ram 2500 Limited Cummins and IMHO, and I took a hard look at them all, the interior was by far the best of the big 3. This is now my second late model RAM Cummins and they have been completely trouble free..... Change oil every 12,000 miles and thats been my total expense in the last 4 years.

Gvwr on the gm products is over 10k in the 2500 for 2020. Make sure you understand the implications of that is this will be used for business.

Thanks guys, hope to purchase within next month or so.
I'm well aware the Ram has a fantastic new interior & the new ZF trans. I just can't do another Dodge product, too many past headaches.
I've spoken with Bobby William's & pricing is good. I agree, the new Ford looks the best.
I'm guessing most people know I'm always more about function over look at me, just look @ my plain, simple, boring boat.:D

I'm like you, always been a GM / Chevy guy. Owned more than I can count, diesel, gas, lifted lowered 15,25,3500, etc. I needed to buy a diesel to tow the cig and borrowed a buddies new F250 diesel. Kind've fell in love with that thing. Interior, creature comforts, controls, gauges, ride and ESPECIALLY the transmission. Towing 13k+ lbs and never felt the tranny lurch or struggle. smoothest shifting I'd ever felt in a truck.

With all that said, I bought another Dirtymax LOL. Older, didn't want a new truck. But point is, go drive the new Fords. They're NIIIIIIICE.

All the GM's I've owned they've never let me down (knock on wood). If it aint broke.....

My 2500HD has the 6.0 with 6 speed. It replaced a 06 with 6.0 and 4 speed. Gets 2mpg better and the brakes are much better.

I don't know all of your needs but have you considered how the rear seat folds? My duramax rear seat folds up leaving the flat floor for what ever it's needed for. That's where my dogs live when we aren't in the Excursion and I've had plenty of tools in there. I'm not sure how the F250 rear seat folds.

I am a life long GM guy and was trying really hard to buy a Ford this month, but could not locate a 2019 here in the southwest. I have to have the upgraded 4.10 - 4.30 rear end gear... Ended up with a great deal on a Dodge Ram. RAM has the best specs for 2019 in HP and Towing! I am setting them up for the business, blacked out windows, blacked out wheels on 35 inch Toyos... Long beds of course, becuase anything else is well, not a truck!

Just like the title says 3/4 ton, so let’s call it 250/2500. The OP also states gas 4x4...
Chevy is 360 hp
Ford 385
Ram 410

so that’s the best hp spec in my book for what he’s looking for in a basic long bed 4x4 2500.

That's a nice looking truck.

How much was it before tax and license? I got a reg cab long bed 2500HD $33K. Handles a pallet of 90s or a unit of plywood no problem. I have done 18 prefabs of granite in it.

This one had a few items off base like the backup camera, touch screen uconnect .. and like I said, the 4.10 "anti spin" diff ( whatever that is ) which is an 650 uptick.... 35K impulse buy price at 15% off msrp.

Sorry, that's not gonna happen. Been burned by too many Dodge transmissions & horrible interiors.

It’s a work truck, interiors don’t count, unless you’re talking about A/C performance.
GM’s are good if you plan on keeping it for 30 years. Fords are good if trade it in every 5-6 years.

Dodge are great if you trade it in when the warranty runs out.

:)

Back up camera is a must. The 410 was only option if I recall the locking rear I can pull my boat out with 2wd my 1500 have to engage 4x4. Parking sensors are nice I don't use the lane assist. In dash GPS works great for going to new jobs. Wish it shut down to 4 cylinder mode like my 5.3 for River runs and freeway MPG.

If you have to have a gas engine you should wait and get a Chevy 6.6 Or Ford 7.3.
If you have to buy now you should buy a 2019 ram 6.4 with an eight speed transmission If you have to buy now you should buy a 2019 ram 6.4 with an eight speed transmission.

I have a 6.4 with a six speed and it’s a fucking monster I can’t imagine how much better the eight speed must be!

The other side of that is it is a work truck so mpg matters. I use to drive 60k a year in my work truck 1 mpg means about ~250 gallons in a year. That's $750-1000 less in fuel

Company will pay for 95% of my gas. Just want to keep it simple. I'm not buying a new gas 7.3 nor a 6.6 because I won't buy an unproven motor & NEVER the first year of a new motor.

6.2 is 420hp
Then new 6.6 is 401hp

6.0 in the 2500. 6.2 only available in 1500. I have the 6.0 it makes good torque rated to tow up to 14,500 in my truck.

Show me where you can get a 2019 2500hd work truck in 4x4 with the 420 hp option. I know they make a 420hp 6.2 but that’s not what this OP is asking for... He clearly states 2500 LONG Bed 4x4 work trucks (WT). That truck is a 360hp 6.0 L truck.... I have one of those also with 190k trouble free miles. Best truck I ever owned...

All 3 manufacturers make great gas trucks with motors proven for many years now. I was looking at Ford/Dodge because I could run a 35 inch tire with zero suspension mods... I wanted to play with the solid axle trucks for a little while. I already know from driving the dodge for a couple weeks that the GM IFS ride is a lot nicer and rides smoother...

Like bdldrinker said... this 410 hp with the 8 speed is a ton of fun to drive,... for a work truck it hauls ass empty... I will report back when I get done towing a 12k trailer, might end up right back at the dealer, time will tell.
