I know there's a bunch of contractors on here...so what company offers the least expensive ones? I'm over paying $450 a year for a contractor's license I don't even use.

Most of them are close to you. Pretty sure mine is from Shingle Springs. I paid for 3 years to get a break but around what you are paying.

Not sure that Cheap and bond should be used in the same sentence ...... " two dollar helmet for a two dollar head "
I get that but for a license that hasn't been used in over 10 years.

well thats a gamechanger ... more of a"maintenance fee" ... would assume there are "non admitted" insurers out there that are less than traditional insurers

https://www.ccisbonds.com/contractor-bond-california/

I just renewed with this Co. a few months ago, there we pretty fair as my other Surety Bond Co after 15yrs jack up their rates over a 100%
Also their website was easy and about 10min to complete the application, I also did receive a phone call and an email shortly after.

What are your guys numbers? I'm 983***. I've done work for #92.
#701XXX, Contracted for 18 years in public works and then went back to work as an employee about 5 years ago. Time really flies when you're having fun and getting older. Mine was inactive and just expired. Need to renew inactive just in case I ever need it again.

For kicks and giggles, license issuance schema:

License# Approximate Year of issue

200 000 1962

250 000 1967

300 000 1975

400 000 1981

500 000 1986

600 000 1990

700 000 1994

800 000 2001

900 000 2007

1 000 000 2015

Current licensees number about 300K, current license numbers 1005000

Maybe you could use your license and donate your time and materials to build homeless shelters for all those poor homeless people that can’t find homes (you know because they have a down payment in their tent but there is a housing shortage). Oh yea you can also hire homeless people and put them to work building those shelters because no one will hire them because they are homeless (or drug addict thieves) also of course donating their pay out of your pocket

Not a bad idea but living in a swimming pool might get cold this time of year.

Fees, including license fees, will be going up within the next year, so maybe going inactive is a better choice.

Don’t give up so easy Jane Fonda. They need you, bring at least one home so you can help them out. Remember whatever you have is theirs.
