What is the best quad to get for kids? What is easy running, low maintenance, starts every time quad? My son is almost 2 so he will be riding with daddy for now but what should I be looking for?

For a kid that small, probably a suzuki LT50 2 stroke. Smaller than the other 50cc 4 stroke offerings. The older ones have smaller tires and a little smaller stature. I actually have an old-school 1984 LT50 quad that needs some love if your interested. Ugly sucker, but with a little elbow grease and a $50 top end kit he would be in buisiness

Both my girls started with a suzuki LT50, then graduated to a LT80

Both just keep running.... some minor maintenance here and there, but nothing crazy. I'd say my girls abuse the heck out of those things too.... and occasionally I do as well lol

Yea, i have the title. I gave the bike to my brother but he decided to put his son on a CRF50 with training wheels, and the quad is just sitting. Its an ugly duckling that needs a top-end. It runs, but is down on power and has low compression. Top end kits are available for $50.

I have 3 girls that ride 2 wheelers. They went from a strider to pw50 (no training wheels) to ttr50 and on up! I guess if I went to Glamis only and often I might have kept a quad around as riding anything smaller than a 2-stroke 125 in the sand is a nightmare.

BTW I have 2 pw50s for sale no paperwork both run great $700

LT80 or Honda90. Raised kids on both for many years. The Honda was slightly larger and the transition to a bigger machine was eventually easier. When younger, the size of the Honda was a quick adjustment as they basically rode flat ground. As they got bigger and more aggressive, the LT80 narrow wheelbase became an issue and the Honda was better. I would do either again.

Polaris 50 scrambler, eliminated the oil injection, bought for $300 and runs Everytime. Honda trx 90 for the next size, teaches them to shift without a clutch and it's a Honda so it will outlive us all.

Actually worked good but the battery didn't last that long. They are nice and light so I could throw it in my truck and since it was electric we would go to the park and let him ride. His friend had one also so they rode together. Think we got it for him around 4 and he had it until 6.

I ditched the quads and got both my kids on 2 wheel motorcycles this year. I didn't like how they just hauled ass without having to balance or pay attention to their line, or the terrain. Had a couple good crashes and I could see where that was headed. 2 wheels is way safer and makes them a better rider IMHO.

Funny you said. I had both and 80 and a 50 for my boys at the same time. And if you let either sit for a few months with out running them, it was a nightmare - would never start, dead battery always in the 80, fouled plugs in the 50. Spent more on servicing them and getting them running than actually riding them. Basically why I sold both of them.

It only takes a red cunt hair to clog the pilot jet of a 50

I just didn’t have patience. Id pull them out for the kids every few months and fire em up to ride on the beach, always something I just want them to run, Not fiddle fuck with them for 2 hours to get 45 minutes of riding in. Lol.

Got my daughter a kasea mini50 years ago. I won’t sell it because it’s fun around camp. Couple buddies have them and the drunk camp races are the best.

About 12 years ago my buddy had bought his kids Polaris quads. They came with a wireless remote kill switch that i thought would be really valuable. If they start to get to far away or out of control you can shut it down. Or if someone else’s kids are on it.

If I let them sit all summer long without starting them at all, then yeah... I'd clean out the carb before desert season.... and then it runs all season long no problem. On the LT80, the only thing I have had to replace multiple times is the starter.... about every 3 seasons or so. Overall, I would say that is pretty low maintenance. I have my buddys brand new polaris kids quads sitting in my garage and neither of them start.

Admittedly so, I just didn't use them enough to justify them.

Kiddos also have a rzr 170. Same thing, lots of fun... but if it sits all summer long, gotta clean out the carb. If I were to do this again, I would get the newer EFI model.

Started my daughter on a Polaris Outlaw 90.

It’s a bad ass quad with real Fox suspension front and rear and it’s tuneable/rebuildable. Not the springy junk shocks that come on the basic models. It’s a bad ass quad.

It might be for sale and comes with an extra set of tires/rims and paddles/rims. Not going to be cheap as these things hold their value and this one is immaculate.

Any 2 stroke 50 will be fine. My kids had one it moved fine at glamis around camp even in the soft sand. Even moved me on it.

a friend bought the newer 4stroke Suzuki he had to push kids or they had to start facing slightly down. If they stopped he had to walk over and push.
We had the lt50 it went through both my kids a friends and 2 other kids in our group.

I have an LT50 that I will be selling soon if anyone is interested. I just need to take pictures next time I'm at the river.

@rivrrts429, let me know if you decide to sell your 90. Thanks

Was going to ask this. The 2 stroke 50s seem like a better choice and the 4 stroke 50s seem like they would be under powered.

Not well versed in kid sized quads here.

It is confirmed it is definitely for sale. Clean title. 2008 model and all safety/warning decals all look brand new. Aluminum rims and dirt tires mounted currently but have paddles and another set of dirt tires both mounted on steel rims to go with it.

As far as 50s yes. When I moved him up I got him a Honda 90 four stroke was great with power but it also had gears and automatic so it allowed him to learn shifting. My daughter got an lt 80 was all automatic just gas and go. It had better take off but 90 chased it down.

Don’t go China quad. Stick with a well known Suzuki Honda or Polaris. I’m looking for one to replace our 50cc 2 stroke ling long I fixed up.

My kids grew up on the LT50 and then on to the LT80. My kids are both in their 20's now. I know where both of those quads are, and they are still running today. I've lost track of how many family and friends kids grew up on em too!

Polaris Predator (Shown) or Outlaw 90 worked well for my daughter for years!
