I still cannot figure out, how what or why the cop car was there, unless it was the most Absolute šŸ¤Ŗ perfect coincidence that he was on the street at that exact time the boat was moving down the Horizon.
Actually the cop was at Campbell Cove. He had just made a left out of the parking lot. Then less than a minute later the boat came rolling by with the cop not to far behind it. Cops have lunch there a lot.

I remember we had this customer early 90's that had a real nice 32 Scararb with twins. He had a mobilhome at Callville Bay. He always just hitch the boat up no lights or chains. The ramp was really steep and long back then. Anyways he goes to load his boat back up on the trailer and pull out of the water all is good until as soon as he peaks the top of the ramp the boat and trailer come off the truck and there she goes down this super steep ramp at full tilt boogey with the owner still in the boat. There was two gigantic concrete blocks at the end of the ramp they used to secure the slips with. This boat hits those blocks on the stbd. rear corner of the boat puts a gigantic hole in it destroys both TRS drives and the trailer looks like a pretzel. luckily no one got hurt and that had to be one hell of a ride. Supposedly the owner claimed someone lifted the hitch latch on his trailer while he was out boating and they didn't bother to check it. lesson learned there! Come to think of it the guy was kind of a jerk, maybe someone did do that to get back at him.

So if Walt says it left with the receiver attached...

That boat owner pissed somebody off BIG time, and that pissed off person loseneed up all the frame to receiver bolts.

Or it was one of those newer half ton trucks, and all 6 bolts ripped out of that paper thin frame.

Yes? No? Maybe so?

I care! šŸ˜

By ā€œpaper thinā€ you must be referencing the fully boxed, hydro formed, thicker in every dimension, coated frame made of a higher grade steel that is 100X stiffer and exponentially more robust than any truck frame from 30 years ago?

Yea Iā€™m sure the bolts just ripped right through it :)

My truck is only 45 years old. I best skip this debate. :)

Iā€™m still going with, ran away from a mechanic at the shop up the street.

We had that happen a few times at LBYS with the forklift. The trailers were jacked up and we thought they were locked, but nope! Luckily no major hills to content with!

Iā€™m going with it left Absolute or Savage, I didnā€™t see it happen in person, good friend did and we pulled up as it came to a stop, he said the owners were at Campbell cove inside shopping, but it doesnā€™t make sense to me that way either.

Pretty sure it left Absolute. After I left Campbells I drove down to the landing site. Drive around the block and LEO were already at Absolute with a crowd of people. I do not believe the boats owner was at Campbell's. All the trucks there had boats still attached.

I saw the boat in person earlier today. Trailer tongue jack needs replacement, brake actuator is bound and needs replacement. Only damage to boat is a small scratch to stainless on passenger side and the eyelit jumped over the bow roller. Hell, didnt even bend a rim. Yes boat was chocked and holding, and the ones involved did what they were supposed too. There is a kicker and I will give out the info when I get the OK from those involved.

It sure looks like that frame rail needs some Viagra after that trip also. Appears to have just a wee bit of a radius goin on there

Thought that too when I saw the internet pictures, but after seeing it in person and really looking it over, i was surprised to see just the jack and actuator out of whack

Anybody got a police report or something substantial to this story. The chatter here, on FB, Instagram, all the Instagram pages is all over the place.

Gotta love all the speculation when something like this happens, good entertainment value sometimes, but also really frustrating to read other times, it just gets really dumb really fast. I'm still puzzled by the recounting of this whole event. There isn't a drawbar or receiver/hitch assembly on that trailer tongue in any photos or in the video. And many have pointed out that the trailer jack is vertical, if it was on the truck, hooked, the trailer jack would be flipped up and horizontal. For the whole receiver to come off the truck is one thing, but then you'd think that parts of it would have to be with the trailer, or in the event it also popped off the ball, and then what about the safety chains, they would have dragged the hitch assembly with it, something would still be with the trailer. That shit just doesn't drop straight to the ground at the gas station the boat makes right turn out of the lot on its own, with none of the hitch parts with it..come on! Really?!?

If the trailer hitch pin, draw bar pin, and receiver bolts, and safety chains all are missing and just happen to fail at the same time then yeah, it came off the truck, really hard to believe that was the case. If the boat simply popped off the ball, you'd think it would have buried itself into the back of the truck, first before taking off down the street. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

The other version floating around is that the boat was being moved, maybe by truck or forklift, trailer tongue wasn't locked/pinned, and the chains weren't secured and it took off, makes more sense then the whole damn receiver failing while fully hooked up. My speculation, .02$, IMHO, is that I've gotta go with the wheel chock scenario, much more likely that it wasn't chocked right and it started rolling. Everybody on here knows that hill, and the shops along the side walk. The drive ways are steep too. A boat unhooked with a just a rock or a 2x4 under the tires is bad news for rolling down the street. Gotta go with the second scenario......
The funny part is the amount of thought you put into it. Realistically, nobody cares on here. Itā€™s just something to talk/joke about.

There is plenty of shops on the street w cameras facing the street. Iā€™m sure there is video of where it came from. No ones gonna post or say what happened, because online juryā€™s are always so fair. Lol
Also if it was at a shop, do you think said shop would want to be known as the guys that ghost rided a boat down industrial, lol. Because there will always be the guys that say weā€™ll i wonā€™t use that shop because .......
shit happens at every shop, every business, every individual. Itā€™s sucks in the world today you donā€™t have to make it right for just the person your dealing with, you need to make it right with every public opinion
Think of it this way. Could of been way worse. No one injured. Boat for the most part is fine. Trailer needs some love. And it will be fixed. Likely w zero out of pocket from owner.

So judges and juryā€™s can relax.
