You are like 1.5 hours from little Sahara lol
I’ll be rolling through town and pull into the market, laundry or gas station and locals always pull up and want to chat.
Little Sahara is always brought up.

We have a nice site at the RV park. Going to be here a spell.

I have learned:
No one makes a Flying Insect spray that kills flys anymore.
Also learned Utah business are either well run and clean and successful,, or dumpy, in disrepair and in defeat.
You can get produce that you can taste in Utah.
The presence of SXS’s contributes to thriving commerce and they hold that thought.

People from all over the country In rental Class C’s come and go here.
They tour the Southwest and stretch it up to Yellowstone.
The Covid isn’t slowing that industry down, its supercharged it.

They often want to see who that curious couple is in that big RV and walk up to chat.
We offer a mimosa or beer and they most always accept.

This Utah county though booze is scarce but legal is really dry and Camp Casanova may be the only booze for miles.
Always cool people with a story to tell.

Dunno if I mentioned it but as you have sacrificial anodes to protect your boats metal our Predator 3500 defaulted to a sacrificial generator.

You can’t be more conscientious about maintaining it as I was. It puked and it ain’t getting better.
Did all the recommended fixes and bootlegs - none cured it.

So it gets exchanged under warranty and the replacement unit will simply be kept on hand at the house for power out episodes.

The HF Predator 3500, like the Chevy Vega is $50 away from being a good product.
Bummer to hear about your truck and the Predator....

What happened to the genie? Anything I need to worry about or anything I can do to prevent what you are experiencing?

Trying to figure that out now.
One service writer took me aside and said “no cure and it’s really common.”

GMC did contact the latest dealer and told them to lose the attitude.
Should be rolling again in 10 to 15 days and expect this problem to hit us again around Stateline Nv.
I have a suspicion it’ll be more like 20 to 30 days from what we’re hearing.

I’m 680 miles from home and AAA wants $10 a mile after the first 100, Good Sam is worthless in these situations.

So I’ll get as close to home as I can then do what I have to and lump it. One friend has offered to take our trailer home for us so the closer I get the better.

Man thats what scares me about new trucks especially diesels. Too many emmisions and electronics tossed on something that wasnt made for that sure they make great power but no new truck owner should have to worry about where they tow too.

In this heat you realize how much harder your sand machines work in the dunes.
Temp gauges pegged hot.
Nice trails right near the RV Park - temp gauge still running cool.

Probably ok if you’re not towing. Evidently towing is where DEF / Particulate systems fail.

Damfino.
The new ‘19 and ‘20 Fords seem to be ok so far.
Guys in my group with them towing the exact same thing as us on the exact same routes at the same time. They had issues like this in ‘16 and ‘17.

We’ll wait until the 2021’s hit the streets and investigate if the systems are improved or still good to go.
I don’t ever want to go through this again.

Hard to get hard facts in the Ford forums. So loyal are those owners they are still flat footed and shaking, arguing toe to toe, poking each other in the solar plexus defending the 6.0.

A friend tows his fiver from Austin to glamis 3 times a year haven’t heard any issues truck was an 18 ford. He just got another went from 450 to 350 srw I know he towed Austin to Tulare ca few months back no issues I heard of.
Yeh those 6.0s many still defend them but will tell you the issues too but how easy to fix. 😱

I’m guzzling 12 gallons of def every 1000 miles or a gallon.
Somethings wrong and they are scratching their heads trying to figure that out too.
New Fords in the group none of this nonsense.

I have a 2017 F-350 and tow the exact same Momentum as yours, running heavy. 32,000 miles on the truck, 80% of them towing the fifth wheel. Zero issues.

Really sorry to hear your story. I recall your excitement about getting the new truck and trailer. It absolutely sucks to pay good money, spare no expense kinda money, and have shit like this happen. That said your positive attitude and "make lemons into lemonade" attitude is an inspiration to all us other curmudgeons.

Am I reading this right, 12 gallons of DEF for every 1000 miles? I'm about to hit 4000 miles, and have put two (2.5) gallon boxes in the truck. I've been towing heavy since day one, and I mean 15 K to 23 K heavy. Obviously your DEF injector or DPF is bad, or the ECM is sending way too much DEF down the pipe, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't have changed the whole DEF system out by now?

Other than the obvious issue, do you like the truck so far?

Nice truck but unreliable.
Yep the DEF and particulate filter system is a mess.

I think this has blindsided GMC and they are still trying to figure it all out.
Dealer said they’re just changing out the particulate filter and sending me back out.
Parts on back order.

I’m sure from St Anthony to Nephi the truck used no DEF at all.

Ya know Ross...

Someone I know flew all the way to Idaho to get a Smoking deal on a new truck.

He ended up with a Dodge for WAY less coin than he could ever get one for in SoCal.

Maybe you should start making some calls. Don't mention the trade in until you get there.

It's past time to stop the bleeding...

Even if they say it’s fixed I would just have that feeling every trip that it’s going to take a shit. Let them buy it back whether your going to get another GM, Ford or Dodge. It seems like every vehicle I’ve had that starts out having issues it continues as time goes on..

Thanks for the takes.

I’m pretty certain it’ll all fail again around ‘Vegas to Stateline.

Getting the ToyHauler back home is the priority then getting rid of this truck is next.

The engine has been “freewheeling” for over 8 hours in attempts to “force regen” and that’s not good for diesels.
I forget what the condition is called that it creates doing that but it ain’t good.

One or another way I’ll rid myself of this and never set out with this truck again.

My thoughts exactly and why some Mfgs only allow the customer to buy the extended warranty on the day they buy the vehicle. It protects the Mfg down the line in several ways.

This truck has a criminal record 3 felony’s so trading it in will bring that all up on Carfax.

Lose your head and your ass soon follows. I’ve been the ideal owner. The service department didn’t design or build it so being really cool about it all when dealing with them is the way to roll.

Friends that had F450s traded them in on F350 not because of F450 issues. They just like how the F350 rides, handles and tows better feeling the F450 was too much truck.

But damn, the showroom and curb appeal of the F450 makes one want to stick their dick
in it.

The Predator 3500 I’m thinking don’t over fill it with gas and don’t fill above the red plastic fill Max level tag in the fill neck.
Evidently liquid will thus flow into the C.A.R.B. Charcoal vent breather box and that’s it, done deal. Ruins it.

No replacement part avail and the bootleg fixes and bypass tricks don’t work.

Complete exhaust regen/filter unit is $4k I’m told so they simply try and replace the filter first.

If that fails then the whole enchilada gets changed out.

They haven’t figured out what’s causing it in the first place.
Someone mentioned malfunctioning def and it sure seems that way.
Getting home then rid of the truck is now priority one.

Found a dive bar at 35 days into this mess. Great burgers, I’m talking amazing burgers, cheap drinks and concrete blond pretty girls galore.
Wee Blu Inn Payson Utah. Highly recommend.

GMC calls ever couple days and asks if I have any questions.
No word from the Dealer Svc dept.

I was driving up the I 15 yesterday headed to Draper and saw two tow trucks on a off ramp shoulder assisting a new Chevy truck owner with a 5th wheel.

I had to circle back and ask the owner what happened:
“Reduced speed, cleaning particulate filter” message and he was limited to 25 MPH and struggling at that.
Engine feels like it misfires or hit or miss type firing more like it and barely runs.

That was my latest experience too.

Mr Stateline the TPC.

Man o man Has Primm Nevada become a shithole.
Probably the most expensive fuel in Nevada.
Once fun casinos run down in defeat or shut down even before the Covid.
No decent food what so ever.

We picked up the truck Monday late and did a 380 mile Banzai run Tues morning before the heat hit.

Found a Quiet spot at Whisky Pete’s over-sized parking to rest then finally make it home this morning before the heat hits once again.

Many good Memories of fun times here in Primm. Sad and pathetic place now.

Feeling power loss and smelling that burning DEF odor Prelude to the system puking once again.

I got my paper trail and ducks in a row.

Holy crap Ross....just saw this thread, been dealing with our world coming apart like a cheap tire at 70 on the freeway, anyway what a nightmare for you guys. I can't imagine...that truck has 6k on it? I am thinking class action suit based on what you are saying about the common issues. The fact that all the damn parts are on backorder is a telling thing.
I don't know what direction to send you, my pals in the dirt moving business are running new Dodges and pulling huge weights with them, and raving about them. You know the roads we drive on up here and the only complaint they have is that no tire company makes a tire that will last with the combo of the weight and the torque...they wear out rears in short order. Hang in there man...

Just a lot on my plate. Cindy and I are fine. I guess beyond that everything is gravy.
Dealing with other family issues, juggling a lot of stuff right now, and fire season is going great guns already, soon the power shut off season will begin.
Someday We will get the stars aligned and get to hook up again. Planning a couple of trips to the mountain this fall.
We camped at that bar I told you about last Memorial day ish. It is as DIVE as can be, and I thought of you and smiled while having a burger and a beer.
Someday we gotta make it happen.
We plan on being residents of northern Nevada late next year or early 2022.

So I'm not trying to sound rude but is this like Ford's 6.4 ? The emissions stuff makes my truck almost useless . It struggles to pull my 10k bumper pull most of the time .

I know some guys in our Glamis Group had this issue with their Powerstrokes.
They all Lemon Lawed their trucks.

Forced Regens lead to cylinder wall glazing that leads to engine failure I'm told.
Dunno,, just what I glean from the forums from people that claim they experienced it.
I know nothing about it.

Evidently Ford figured it out and this is behind them.
I was told that with the GMC some systems are just defective. Even some replacement parts are defective. Not sure if I buy into that. That could be a carrot on a stick excuse.
May be a design problem plus lack of testing under load.

The GMC 3500 DRW is the perfect tow vehicle for our weight class TH.
Didn't need to bag it, tons of power when it runs right, fucking fun to drive. Nice truck.
Yeah, when it runs right.

My only advice for people going through this is never tell the service writer what your intentions are or what you are thinking or they go into cover-thy-ass defense mode. Leave it all up to them for past discovery and diagnosis.
Keep a cool head and use the system to get the truck replaced or your money back.

Right now we'll wait for the 2021 GMC 3500 DRW and the Ford F450 then make our move. The Ram is in there too, we just don't have a decent Ram dealer around here.
Truck rags are reporting new axles and other design features, plus no more jackass graphics nor ridiculous giant Blue Oval emblems for the 2021 F450 that will be worth checking out. That's for areas of the country where people put their first name on the truck door and their wife's name on the passenger side door. New Jersey south through the sun belt. Argyle sox with sandals culture.

Wife doesn't want to go through this again either and wants to go cautiously with our next purchase.
One more diesel,, then we'll have to go gas if this continues.

Sounds good, we're in.

We're getting a 50 AMP plug and transfer switch on the house electrical service. Then the Honda eu7000i for blackouts. They are on sale now, big discounts so that means Honda may be introducing something new.
We always seem to have 60 to 100 gallons of left over gas around that needs to be burned off. May as well put it to good use.
