Picking up my new Denali on Sunday and driving back to Vegas. Faster to take the 93 or just take the 15 and fly low? About 100 miles extra distance via 15. Anywhere to stop on the 93 to catch a few zzz on the way home Sunday night?

I always go 93..and yes plenty places to stop and sleep...Hell I sleep while driving..DO NOT miss 318 out of Ely headed south to save about an hour on trip..Turn right at Chevron/McDonalds out of Ely and go to 318 and turn left...haul ass. Easy nine hour drive to Vegas.

I see I just gave directions FROM Boise to Vegas...so reverse pattern from Vegas...lol 318 heads to Lund going North..about 100 miles from Loves truck stop on 93...go left on 318 headed to Ely..

RCL is right with the 93/318...watch and obey all speed traps though through the smaller towns as well as Ely and Wells. They will be waiting for you 9 times out of 10.
If you get pulled over, tell em your a Bundy!!!! lol. No need for stopping overnight. Avoid any road food, bring light snacks, sunflower seeds, and water and you'll dismiss the need to stop overnight. I make this trip 10 times a year nonstop.

We like the "Jailhouse Motel/Casino" in Ely. Clean, reasonably priced, good restaurant and also dog friendly. 93 is a good hwy. Have seen elk on that road. Big animals, wouldn't want to hit one. SIL grew up in that area, says troopers up there will write you for more than 5-7 over posted speeds. Although, I will to 90-95 in the logical areas of the hwy.

Hit an elk with motorhome last late September and did lots of damage under coach...ripped brake cans off rear end...tow into Wells and overnight stay and 1000.00 later back on road. So here is my new rules of engagement...in motorhome at night...I will go 15 and suffer the time loss...but during day is fine. Seriously, the cop that sat with wife and I waiting for wrecker convinced me not to travel that lonely dark stretch at night anymore...in fact his stories were horrifying..

Pulled over a few years ago headed down to the SHOT doing triple digits....ticketed for 90 and for wasting fossil fuels...$75
Coolest cop in the world. Talked about long distance shooting and the targets I sell.

Hmmmmmmm...I don't think I have ever traveled it by day. Always packing though. No Alien abductions yet.

Thanks for the tips, was looking for some guidance on how heavy a foot I can have out that way. Will be running the Valentine1 and obey the local town speeds, learned that through searchlight lol. Plane gets in to Boise at 230 hoping to be out of the dealer by 4 and in LV about 3 am give or take.

Speed limit is 80 from Boise to Twin Falls....they'll pop ya for 82. Twin going into Jackpot...take the truck route just after you cross the Perine bridge which goes right by Costco. Take your time 5mph over is all I do anymore until I am past Jackpot. Careful driving into and leaving Jackpot. Once outside of Jackpot stick to 75mph until you hit Wells. The speed limit in Wells is 68 because you don't want to eat any hooker snatch at 69.
Same holds true in Ely. Enjoy your trip. Check the weather before leaving Boise as it can get nasty and they do shut highway 93 down on occasion.

Sorry for jacking an old thread but can you educate me on the 93 North ~ Vegas to Boise?

We’re heading back to Washington & looking for another route since we went I-5 last month.

Is it a two lane highway or 4 lane divided?

Thank you in advance.

A small part of 93 is two lanes, like right off the 15 going North for a few miles, after that it's one lane each way for the most part. The 318 is one lane as well. Don't speed around Alamo, Lund, or Ely. Pretty drive.

Ugh ! I HATE single lane roads. ☹️

And Larry’s nephew warned me about the
‘Open Range’ areas when we did Kuna, ID to Lake Tahoe. He said if you hit a farmers bull it’s always his prized one and you’ll get a bill for $15k-$25k. 🤨

Thank you for replying, I appreciate your help.

Daughter lives in Spring Creek/Elko area. We've driven from LHC to there and back a number of times on 93. I find it good open road driving for the most part. Yes, slow it down in the small towns, Lund, Hiko etc. We usually spend the night in Ely when traveling north bound. We have seen Elk cross the highway between Ely and Wells in the day time. Big guys. Wouldn't want to hit one.
