RDP peeps..... new job position SOON.... outside sales,,,

I'm looking at used cars with 30ish MPG minimum ...

No hybrid for me....

Gas only..

I was checking Auto trader and I saw three cars with an image of their actual MPG fuel economy on the dash...

20.2, 28.7, 31.4

the 20.2 MPG image had 1/4 tank remaining... I was SHOCKED seeing 20.2 MPG....

BTW, Honda advertised 30 - 40 MPG

what are ya getting???

I drive my focus a little hard and still get 23-24, if I drive it fairly normal I get 30-31

You may also want to check out the Mazda 3. I leased one for 3 years. 28 mpg if I drove like a total dipshit, 30 if I drove “normal.” Looked at this he civic, just couldn’t get a good enough deal (it was right when they changed the body style, so they were a hot commodity).

I picked up 2013 Prius, with 145k miles on it on the cheap (I didn’t want a payment anymore). 45 or so mpg and much roomier inside than the Mazda.

Then again, you didn’t want a hybrid, so back to the thread... If the Civic only gets 25 or less mpg, I’d go with the 3.

Got an 08 civic and if you drive like a normal person I usually get 300+ miles out of a tank with mostly city and some highway driving

My Toyota Matrix 06 gets between 32 and 35 mpg. 35 only on freeways if I keep it at the speed limit. Somewhere over 300,000 miles and still just putting along.

I had a used '97 stripped down Saturn SC2 with a 5 speed. Driving normal i could get up to about 35 mpg hand calculated. I actually really liked that little car.

One of the vehicles in our 3 vehicle "fleet" is a 2015 Honda Accord Sport (4 cylinder). When I drove to/from SoCal from PHX at around 85MPH the whole way I'd get 30MPG. The MPG-ometer goes up a lot if/when I slow down. If I keep it to around 75MPH I'd see around 33MPG.

YMMV

Find what fits your "fat ass" first..then just pick a year....anything in a Honda or a Toyota from 2010 up (Corolla/Rav4 or Civic/Accord/CRV) can get 30's if you semi-try....

I'd be more concerned about being comfortable then mileage....but if it's a must, the Camry and Accord hybrids can do that standing on their heads while at full throttle....

Good on brakes too....you know because of the regenerative braking. Did I mention I hate hybrids? 😝

The difference in money out of pocket from 20mpg to 30mpg is pennies....be comfortable first IMO.

My Honda Fit gets mid 30's. Its also a hatch back and I have used it to haul so much stuff. Can literally fit axles, engines, furniture, bikes, motorcycles, 4 33" tires, ect in it.

Every time I show up to pick something up I get told its not going to fit in there and it does easily.

Car has paid for itself numerous times over and I just put miles on it instead of the truck or other vehicles. Set of 4 Pirelli tires is like $400 and other than routine maintenance this car is issue free.

Corolla or Prius. Toyota ONLY for quality, nothing comes close. Civics 2016+ have huge A/C problems.

Prius would be my pick. Or Corolla Hybrid.

Thats whats crazy, with the "new emissions bs" and heavier weights these cars are not anywhere as good of MPG as they used to be.

I've always driven a lot, in 2004 I bought a 95 Honda Civic VX. It was their super light car, with a lean burn engine, and crazy low gears. On the freeway I could always get into the mid 50's mpg, with the highest being into the low 60's mpg with certain driving techniques.

Those cars are long gone now.

I drive from Havasu to Kingman everyday and Im pretty sure I can get two full trips to one tank, thats 120 miles round trip. Guess I sould do a millage check this week!

I have a 4 door Chevy Sonic turbo that gets 30MPG. It pays for itself instead of having to drive the F350 to work every day.

That's pretty good, I'm about 50/50 highway/city driving
Other than the trans (which i just put 3k into) it's been a great car. Shame they finally figured out to fix it after all the warranty crap was out.
Just got my dads '18 RAV4 so I am hoping to find a neighbor kid who needs a good reliable first car.

The wife has a 2016 Honda Civic turbo 4 cylinder with 53k on the odometer. It got 35mpg over those 53k. Most driving is done from Corona to Irvine, 50ish mile round trips.

I was able to do a millage check when I filled up this morning, 331 miles, 10.91 gal gas=30mpg. Thats mostly driving from Havasu to Kingman and back at about 75-90 mph. I am religious about using the cruise control, even on the 95 if I can hit all the lights green

I know Hybrid was not on your hit list (my guess is due to most people thinking that means prius....) but check out a used Fusion hybrid. They will "fit your fat ass" comfortably, will knock back high 30 / well into 40's MPG, and are not some little crap box to drive or get in an accident in.

I know its a little outside what you described, Just take a look though. You will probably be surprised.

2001 Saturn l100 with 4 cylinder. I get 28 mpg at 85-90 mph. 300k on the clock

I will Echo this. I have a 97 saturn SC1 that gets between 39 and 43 every single tank ( I fill up every 2 weeks, always 400-410 miles, and always 9.4-10.1 gallons). It has 225K miles, and I have never changed the oil, just added. I paid 800$ for it.

I bought my daughter a 2015 Honda Civic Automatic with 30K miles when she left for college last year. I have driven the car from LA to PHX 3 times, and at 80-85, it consistently gets 31-33MPG.

Around town, she averages around 23-25MPG

Rick. I have a 2017 Honda Fit with about 94k miles for sale for 10k. It gets between 35-40 MPG. I used it to run around a lot to serve people. Text me your email and I will send you info if interested. Well taken care of and I was the second owner. Very economical.
