Bruce Meyers has sold his company to a Venture Capital firm, Trousle Ventures. The price was not revealed. There are many knock off, but the Original was always on my Want List.

He's pretty old now and may just not have the energy to keep up with it. Sad day really, hope the new owners respect the brand he created, nurture it for what it is and don't just run it down.
Mine is a mid-travel FRP body on a full VW pan.

Good for him and Whinny (sp?). Cool dude. A buddy purchased a body from him a few years ago. Great quality.

Nice ride,,,,, yours ?
Oh hell no 😂 Nicest thing I own is my boat. Gave up the car thing long ago. Sometimes I crave a little project car, but I get over it quickly. Lol

My 1970 Meyers car. I was gonna go crazy with the build but in the end I decided just to leave it alone. It was sitting in some guys yard with trash in it, not running. So far I've put about 16,000 miles on it. fun little car

A really good video:

Meyers made a quality product as did Empi. Cheap knock-offs must have hurt their biz in some way at some point.
Awesome👍
Gotta love ole Huell Howser, not sure I’ve seen that one before so thanks.
I had the opportunity to not only meet the guy at a club meeting at a little diner in Valley Center, he invited me back to the house after. He showed me the whole operation, saw and touched Old Red, and I’ll tell you what. You’ve not lived until you’re strapped into a fiberglass car with the power to weight ratio of a Dodge Viper, and the 80+ year old guy who designed it takes you for a rip around town👍😎

I dint think the knockoffs hurt business as much as it hurt his soul. You can hear it when he talks about it and says at the end he just had to get past it and take it as flattery. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. His words👍

Hot Rod Magazine did a write up of the guy featured in the April 07 issue.
That silver 2+2 car is the one I rode in. Subaru 2.5 deal stock tune 250hp package.
As we were driving I asked if it would wheelie. He said if he thought the vw trans would take it he’d try, but didn’t think it would😂

30 years ago in high school I should have gone with my father’s suggestion to build a buggy rather than the Baja bug I wanted. I’d properly still have it. Would like to have one even today.

Would love to put a Manx body on a SXS...

Rugged did it with one of my long body's
I have been thinking about making a kit version manx body for a sxs, but just havn't had the time.
Also been thinking about bringing back the midtravel chassis kits with my wider body, just having a hard time finding a chassis builder I can trust!

Joe Vittone, founder of EMPI, and owner of the first Volkswagen dealership in the US (Econo Motors on Main Street in Riverside, CA) invented the first “EMPI Imp” in the early 60s. He was one of my dads best friends. It was basically a sheet metal body, VW chassis shortened by one foot and widened about a foot.

it had individual hand brakes-for each rear wheel so could so you could manually do limited slip.

Joe was a character, a genius and a visionary. He invented the “EMPI Exhaust, the “Camber Concentrator”. (Stolen by GM for the Corvair) and at one time held the world speed record on a motorcycle.

See, how can you not like that!

Wonder if you could get a SXS plated like that in CA 😃
