Mine is under the dash and does just fine but I’ve seen where they need to be on top of the deck.
Mine is on top of the dash and there was significant concern by Gaffrig the windshield frame would interfere with the signal.

Still buried in the house remodel but came across a good deal on some new toys for the shop to help make some higher quality boat parts!

Well the house remodel is complete so it’s time to get back to the shop and finish the boat!

My first motor deal fell through but have a deposit on an all aluminum 582 bbc so plans have changed but the goal remains the same. Updates are on the way just rebuilding the Bridgeport now.

I have my antenna under the deck as well; works flawless. I would definitely give it a try under...

Worked on installing the water psi relief valve and bilge pumps today.

Quick hand made bracket, Bridgeport is not powered up yet but still turned out ok.

Boat came with 3 made in USA bilge pumps so I cleaned them up and water tested them, all 3 seem to work just fine so after a little bracket fabrication the center one is ready to go and the other 2 still need weather pack connections that are still on order....

Found a nice spot on the passenger side for the MSD, out of the weather and as dry as I can get in a boat...

Thinking about how to mount it through the side panel as the shock absorbing studs won’t reach all the way through the panel, might try some cabinet/furniture locks we’ll see.

You can probably get deep t-nuts that will do the job from Fastenal.

Otherwise I can probably spin you up some sleeves made from hex stock at some point this winter.

Saved big money at menards and found what I was looking for to use for the mounts. They seem to hold well, time will tell after a few runs on the water.

Mounted the battery shutoff switch also, I wanted it close by in case I needed to cut power in a hurry.

So am I the only one that has received new parts only to find out they either are missing parts or do not work right out of the box???

Recent purchases and issues,

MSD fuel pump relay kit (bad relay opened it up and ground side winding wire never was landed on the post🤦‍♂️)

MSD grid controller had only 2 of the 4 mounting screws in sealed package.

Odyssey battery tray missing 1 cage nut (called number and actually received the missing nut today free of charge so good customer service on their part!)

Autometer GPS speedometer first time powered up and no LED screen😡
Sent it in yesterday we’ll see when I see that back.
I would rather find these things out now though then when I am sitting in the water.

Just a few pictures of the motor build that Shawn sent me. Trying out a Champ pan it seemed to do ok on the dyno and is made in Eau Claire WI so I’ll give it a try. I did notice I had to shim out the front motor plate though as the weld on the front of the pan hits the back of the plate.

Crower Billet crank should hold just about any power level I decide to throw at it down the road. Again this is the base line at 800hp and after I get the boat in the water and dialed in along with some seat time then comes the nitrous and eventually twin turbo.

Now this is a solid lift cam with EDM lifters, a first for me though the builder claims he has had great success with them over the years with great reliability so I will give it a try.
Intake is carbon fiber look wrapped which should help with cleaning after a day on the water. Also was worked over by Reher Morrison and port matched to the 355 heads. The heads have Jessel shaft rockers and Isky tool room springs with titanium retainers.

Just a little hand tight mock up on the motor trying to figure out routing of wires and cables while I wait to receive all the items coming in the mail.

Took a little time this morning before the turkey and looked again at the fuel fittings as I wondered why everything else -10 had 1/2” fittings but the Holley filter needed 3/8 npt which usually means smaller ID.
Sure enough they neck down on the threaded end. Now not that it would make a huge difference but if I plan to up the HP in the near future I don’t want to forget about that possible restriction.

Mocked up the Earls billet fuel log, I do have to say it’s a very nice piece and not bad priced in comparison to the small fittings.

Made a block off plate for the tstat housing. I think I might install a water psi gauge in the near future on the top of it but for now we’re plugging the hole.
Used some floor protection I had laying around to use as a template. Layed it over the hole and hit lightly around the edge to imprint the shape.

Nice to see you using your mill.
I’d like to make a suggestion based on experience:

A54C0960-8D0D-401C-8D3A-453839035118.jpeg

Don’t use that fitting with the wall thickness that thin. It’ll break and you’ll not only be mad, but potentially have fuel all over the place as well.

I’d suggest taking the filter adapter to1/2” NPT or see if Holley makes the cap you need.

I’d maybe use that fitting on the dyno but definitely not in the boat with the weight and vibration of the attached fuel line working on it.

Again, not knocking what you’re trying to achieve, but aluminum fittings that thin have a short fatigue life.

Glad you’re making progress!

I did think about that but I really didn’t take that much material off but I respect your opinion and looked up options. Seeing as its Black Friday Holley has some sales so I ordered a 260gph filter that accepts the same billet bracket mounts I have and has -12 AN oring type ends that I can use -10 AN on for now.

I really miss having a Earls Fittings store in town it made it so easy to pick things out and not wait for the ups man only to find out it’s wrong....

Custom boat building you gotta love it 🤪

Looks great!! You gonna run a return fuel or a dead end setup. I have a Quick Time Fuel log that I run dead end. They just look so cool and beefy.

So of course nothing just bolts together, had to clearance the starter so it would clear the hull. The paper towel protection is for gears that have grease and I didn’t want to press them out to do this quick trim.

So I have the 5 degree MPD intake and either at one time this boat had an original 4 degree intake in it or whoever setup the rail kit missed the degree on the pillow blocks🤔
When I bought he boat it had a nice Meirsch 5 degree intake installed with a modified keel....either way I had to correct this and mill the blocks to 5 degree so they sat correctly.

Verified the vice and table are at 0.
8A78C696-84EB-48E2-B7FF-96CC6E60C132.jpeg

They are at 4 degrees

Setting them up to increase the degree to 5 total.
32BD3CD0-3A05-44FF-BEE9-2470A60CD574.jpeg

Milled now to 5 degrees
ED4E3AAC-2763-496E-B2F3-172A65262DB8.jpeg

Set the motor back and after some shaving of the rear plate it reads 5 degrees in relation to the intake being set at 0 degrees in the hull.

(I should back up a little here to explain it better.)

I set an alternate 0 by holding the level next to the intake on the bottom of the hull, then verified that by checking the suction housing on an edge that was hanging outside the transom then held the level on the crank to verify the motor was in the same plane. I also checked the top of the intake and it was with in 1/10 of a degree.

So I was able to learn a little history about the boat from a previous owner who also provided some pics. It seems the boat was built and sent out along with a green stealth to VA. During that time it had different blown bbc motors in it. One thing I learned was it had a “Edge Stealth” hand painted emblem on both sides that after looking closer I could actually make out where the red had faded ever so slightly and could see this on the boat! My plan is to try and replicate this as it looks great and would help restore some of the originality to the boat.

Fonz,

First off remarkable job you are doing on this boat....seriously. I hang out with the Virginia crew every year and Performance Boats and family are part of that bunch. Pretty sure I can find out the history of your boat. You mention a green boat going out at the same time, Jack Weller has a boat called the Green Monster that Hass sometimes drives. I'll see if I can get one of those guy's to take a look at this and fill you in.

Should have known better, i guess your friends with Kevin Kilgour.

So I had saved the custom set of valve covers that I had on my blown 540 that was in my 21 daytona and decided they would look great on the new motor.

So I had burn down necks on them for the puke tank on the blower motor so I figured I could use one neck backwards for the vacuum pump and then just make a plate for a oil fill on the other side.

Also added some felpro metal core rubber gaskets and arp studs on the bottom so when I open them up to check lash everything should stay put.

So I had to find a place for the awesome carbon fiber paddle I got from Rob Ward so right behind the drivers seat made sense. I only used existing screw holes that were from holding the old wire loom in place. I am not sure if this is the final answer for the paddle as I might still look for some type of nice paddle clamp but for now I made this out of things laying around the shop.

Lined the inside of them with a felt backer to help not scratch up the paddle.

So I received a pair of fenders with the trailer and since the original ones had seen better days I thought it was time to make the trailer look a little better. My future plans are to have a road trailer built with dolly wheels that tuck under the boat so working on the motor is easier but I’m about tapped out of funds for this right now so this will have to work.

I left a small section front and rear of the old fenders attached in order to bolt on the new fenders.

Time to pattern the new wood and carpet padding, I made them a little taller to help support and protect the hull from the fenders.

I cut, cleaned and re adhered the traction pads to the top of the fenders.

Some new lug nuts and a little elbow grease it looks good now.

Also ordered decals for the boat and it finally officially has a name.

So in preparation for installing a race pak data logger I am finishing up running lines to the sensor block. The bowl psi is allot higher then the other type fittings I’ve been using so these 800 max psi fittings and line will work instead. You can see the upper suction psi smaller line and fitting also.

Made a bracket and installed the manifold I will be using for the sensors that will go to the race pak.
The brass plugs are just to keep debris out until I get the sensors.

For the GPS, it might take a few seconds for the LED read out to come up. I was surprised when you said it did not work out of the box. Glad its all good now.

Looking good!

I really like that EZ-101 oil valve. Wish I had something like that, I suck mine out the dipstick and it takes forever. I'm curious to know how that works and if it leaks at all.

We have the same band saw. Recently got mine and I love it. I made a fence for it last weekend and I just got some sanding belts for it. It sands pretty well.

My plan is to purchase a nice pneumatic suction system to draw out the oil that will attach to that valve.
The band saw works ok for a budget friendly tool, I lost the handle that tilts the saw on the way home from buying it, fell off onto the road somewhere 🤦‍♂️

I picked my Craftsman up for $70 and have another $20 in caster wheels and a fence I made for it. You can't beat all the functions you get out of it for the money.

I like the valve idea. It inspired me.

I ordered a 10AN shut off valve and some fittings to come off my Dan Olson pan. The pan has a female 10AN on the rear for a drain. I'm going to size it down after the valve to a 8AN hose because I think that hose will fit through they bilge drain, then I can let it drain into a bucket while I walk away. I have one of those manual pump extractor tanks and sucking 50wt out the dipstick takes forever. I like your idea with the pneumatic I am just not that committed.

Just a few little changes I swapped out the paddle clamps with ones that might hold it in a little better and swapped out the original drain plugs that had a pipe plug to drain to these type from Eddie Marine that retain the plug when draining.

So I priced out the racepak for datalogging and to log the 4 sensors on the jet drive I would be looking at over $3500. That’s just not going to work right now even the racepak is an amazing system and I would love to run it I had to come up with a more economical solution at least for now to get going.

I searched around and came up with these HVAC pressure sensor tools that will record and Bluetooth to my phone. I plumbed them in with quick release fittings so they can come out when I’m not testing and just cruising on the river.

I hope this will work but time will tell if the $400 fro everything was worth it.

Each one comes with a nice case.

Now once you download the data it will graph it and send it to either a pdf or excel spreadsheet that you can export.

When they are turned on and synced to my phone they read live data, also you can turn on more features like high and low readings, alarms, and name each device which will help me keep from mixing up which one goes where.
