I was running into the same problem before the holidays. I ended up ordering a few pieces of hardware @ Turners and they just came in last week. In today’s market patience is definetly a virtue. Simply waiting for a certain gun to be on the shelf when u walk into a gun store is damn near impossible!

I had good luck wit “Gun Broker”. Know what you want and set a limit.
Yep, I just got off GunBroker after waiting a week for the one I wanted badly. I had set a limit this morning and stood by it. I was the first loser. 🤷‍♂️

Gen 3’a are going for cheap as many want the gen 5 MOS’s for RMR’s
17/19’s are hard to come by. 40’s are still around as agencies are going back to the 9 again.

Gen 3 is the only one on roster in California so it can be shipped, gen 4 and 5 have to be an in person transfer at a gun store, the 27 I just got is a gen 3

We have a gun sale poster board at the academy;
Fellow Tech posted a 4506 for sale on it.
He gets a call 20 minutes later , buyer tells him he took the add down is buying it.
Crazy times indeed.

I’d like an 18 just for shits and giggles, but I doubt I could afford it even if I was able to find one.🙄😊

At this point I don’t think I could afford ammunition for it. 😂

My first semiauto I bought when I turned 21 was a 4506. It's sitting in my safe in Havasu, and has not been fired since the early 90's.

It’s a legend in LAPD : It was the first .45 we could carry in Patrol. It pretty much got replaced in 02-05 by Glock 21’s , then had a comeback about 7 years ago when 1911’s were approved for patrol. All the Cops hired after 2002 had to go through “de cocker” school before going g to 1911 school.
All the Cops wanting a 1911 had to buy a 4506 first and were paying $1k left and right for them lol.
Then young guys were carrying them to look “Old school”
Too funny🤣

Interesting. I went to the academy in 92 with a Glock and never really looked back. I have never been a fan of DA / SA guns for carry, and the 4506 is heavy as hell. I think I will keep it as a safe queen. 😄

How would the Glock compare to the Colt M1911? I carried that 30 years ago and haven’t shot a 45 since. I’d like to buy a Glock 40, but could do a 45 also.

LAPD brass would only allow a de cocker 45 as to be in line with the Beretta , hence the 4506.
After Bratton approved the Glock in 02’, most went glock.
The 4506 is considered a boat anchor outside the LAPD.
It was fun seeing the look on suspects face the first few months that stainless .45 barrel got drawn on them. The thing looked like a .50 cal compared to the beretta’s lol.

One STI is on 10k rounds with no cleaning , 0 malfunctions.
Unheard of for any 1911 designed pistol.

Completely different platform and manual of arms. I have a 1911 and a Sig that operates like a 1911 that I carry. Carrying cocked and locked takes training so you get used to automatically sweeping the safety. The Glock is point and shoot.

That's what I did. Don't forget the 9mm mags also.

Too bad they got lost in that horrible boating accident.

When my Dept started allowing semi-autos, (ca 1989) a lot of guys went with the 4506. I have relatively small hands and '06 was just too big to comfortably handle. I went with the compact 4516. Even with 2 less rounds I could keep up at the range, (remember wheel guns only carried 6) and kept consistency when carried concealed.

All this talk of the 4506. Not sure what tax transcript filings have to do with firearms. :D

I knew CHP carried the 6906, but had now idea the 4506 was being used as well. If I am going with a heavy duty gun, I think I would prefer the 1911. Back in the late 80's & early 90's though, it seemed a lot of agencies were hung up on the first trigger pull being DA. I am lucky that my agency adopted the Glock fairly early.

More gangsters talked about that gun when it got deployed in 97’ LA than I can remember.
I still hear from time to time “Hey Detective, you used to carry one of them hand cannons?”
Amazing what change of color does to make a barrel seem bigger lol.

Funny you posted that picture. When I picked up my 1911 yesterday, I asked the guy if this was the upright version or the sideways version. :D
