27 Speedster

What is everyone's thoughts on a 27 Speedster w/ a 700/NXT. I've never ridden in one. I've always had deck boats...

Any weird characteristics? Anything I should keep an eye out for?

never heard anything bad about the 27 speedster and the 700/nxt should be about perfect for performance while still being reliable.

Probably the only i/o set up i would consider and the 27 is one of my favorite boats.

I think @El Guapo had a 27 speedster with a teague 825, not apples to apples but will get you in the ballpark.

Friend had 1 with a open bow. I think the only issue was it was not enough power so he sold it and went with twins on the next boat. It was a very nice boat. Just heavy.

It’s a solid 95mph boat thy will be bullet proof. The handling on the 27 is pretty damned awesome very minimal transition (hop/porpoise) and with the 700 you can power right though it. I know the stage 3 Whipple set up really makes them fun, Buddy had one for a while and he’d run 70-80 all day after the stage 3 and use hardly shit for fuel.

70-80 wont really work well in a 27, you need to get considerably past that to make the hull work, the 700 will get you there, but if you are going to spend 400k plus on a boat get a 28 with twins. Once you have a twin boat you will never go back to a single.

You’re probably right after reading it again. If there is anybody that has their fingers of the pulse of the eliminator market, my money is on you.

A buddy has a 27 open bow with a 600. Great boat ! And runs very well.

The 700 will run good. That is a great set up for a single IO. The 27 needs at least a 600 or bigger with a supercharger. Trust me I know.

My old 27 handled great. I was very happy with it in the rough water. It just wasn’t fast enough (at 89 mph) lol

The best thing about the 700 is if you want more power you can have whipple flash the computer. The Whipple Stage 3 & 4 is similar to an 825. A 27 with a Teague 825 will run upper teens. If you are building I would look at the Teague 825 with an SCX.

The biggest mistake I made with my 27 inboard was not going supercharged. I would have been a lot happier if I had gone supercharged to start.

I switched to twin OB due to speed and handling. Check back with me next week after I drive the twin OB.

If you want twin IO‘s look at the EB 28 or new 30
