just looked at your boat again very nice ride, I see it is a step bottom, which was a little smaller on older models, dont know your x-D but the settings I posted earlier should be close. mine is the 525 with xr drive pretty high X-D, have to run drive full in tabs full in as well to get on plane once on plane you should ride pretty flat steps dont need a lot of bow lift, mine will run high 70s with wife en I half tank fuel labbed 28 bravo, good luck hope you folks enjoy your as much as we do ours,

be careful....it's awhole different animal past 65 gps....
Finding out that the boat dives right hard at around that speed. It's done it twice now once with no tabs down and once with them both about halfway down. It's seems to stay down until I bring the right tab down a bit. Coming from a flatty it's feels super sketchy having that kind of tilt so sudden for no apart reason!

Thanks we will have plenty of fun with it I'm sure! 70mph right now seems like a pipe dream as it's leaned right pretty damn hard a couple of times now but 40-50mph is so damn smooth! With the flatty I'm constantly on and off throttle timing wakes like I'm on a dirt bike...fun for me not for her! Lol that 250 2stroke launches around like a Tesla! Damn thing is on plane instantly! It's probably the fastest on plane boat I've ever been on and now I'm setting my calendar based on when the fountain will get the nose down.

Nice ride! You'll enjoy it! I'm on my second one... tabs at 3 means level with the boat and trim out to 4 and she will run!! Tabs down to get it on plane or you'll see the sky for awhile...

The 27 does only have a 60 gallon tank and like others have said, when the fuel gauge even "flickers" off full, you better be looking for fuel quickly! Trust me you aren't getting the mileage you think you are! :)

Do yourself a favor and check the transom. The thru hull tips fountain used sucked along with their sealant of that era and caused water to enter the transom. Replace them and reseal everything else if it still dry!

Just be carefull!!!,... mine was simulare to yoyr,... 800hp blower motor.... never found out how fast it was... didn't have the Balls... it would do some real violent stuff after about 65 mph... I searched the web and found a lot of pointers on how to drive the boat... I seen 80 mph once, and seen Jesus at the same time.. most said you have to drive the boat off the nose... this is not a boat for the novice , not meaning you, but one you never ever let a friend drive... here's what BOB leech told me when I asked how to drive the boat..."I got to 70 mph, and it started searching1" I said searching???, Searching for what????... he said" A place to crash!!!" ... most all the people that had the same boat said , " we never run it on pin, and like to stay between 40 & 55 ...

At 80 mine hooked hard, and I stayed in the throttle and was able to drive through, the trick is to not try to correct the bow steer... when driving the nose goes back and forth like some one watching a tennis match... through that you have to keep the drive straight with the keel... kinda like driving on ice, too much correction and you spin out... I talked to a guy with one that had a 496 ho... he said it was perfect, but also said he never drove it fast with the wife and kids on board..... lots of seat time.........just be carefull is all I'm saying... and when your balls jump up all the to your heart,... just take a real deep breath in and hold your breath ,, tighten your stomach mussels and they will pop back down.... any way... enjoy your new boat,... but be Smart, and be safe...

Kinda surprised to read this my 29 is a 2003 the hull was redsigned in 2001 or 2 at close to 80 it is still very stable what Ive read about the 29s is that they will get kinda wobbly at around 85 and if you drive through it they will smooth out, dont have the power or the desire to find out the 27 may be a different animal, just for the record my report from Fountain test show they hit 82 mph with a 28 bravo, of course tnis was run in Dec on perfect water very little fuel best 28 money can buy and a midget driver that probably weight 75 lbs, stay away from to much bow lift you shouldnt need it with step bottom run some tab down to keep it stable, you have a lot of power for a 27, Fountains are dogs untell on plane as I said before tabs en drive full in untell she breaks over then trim out, lower pitch prop will help holeshot but more rpms at cruiseing speed less topend. I run 26 or 28 lose holeshot with 28 but about 300 less rpms at cruiseing speed

Haven't seen the issue on 27s with the rub rail...they don't sit near as low as the 29 twin or "sinking 32" but yeah worth checking! I spent alot of time searching for a dry 27! Then went and re-did it all to make sure it would stay dry!

I've been in quite a few fast 27s....mine runs 75 and doesn't do anything crazy at all...what mine doesn't like is running slow.

I've heard over 80 they like to chine walk...fountain knew how to set a boat up, PERIOD. It left the factory in its fastest form with what ever power it was ordered with. People then mess with the drive height, add nose cones, change props and direction of props, bottom work exc...thats when the boat becomes unstable and unpredictable.

The X factor got worse and Mercury forced their props on him for the bailout money so the boats got slower actually

When Reggie was V bottom speed king&selling tons of boats they came with Hydromotive props from the factory.
The Hydromotive's were part of the whole design package.
Hanging a Bravo off the back changes everything...

Reggie was forced to do that. He needed money and Mercury bailed him out. Then they told him to run their props. So then he had to raise the drives to get them to work and they still weren’t as good as the pre bailout setups.

dont know how much slower they got, but 82 mph at 5300 drive at 5 tabs at 3 for a stock 29 fountain seems pretty good to me, Read a lot of posts about top end on 29s with stock 525s and early 80s was about the best I saw. have only run bravos on mine so no real world compare for me.

justin…Please take what Steve says to heart. He is looking out for you.

thanks Steve
thanks buddy, I took a lot for me to post what I did,... and as you know,... everything gets turned around on the web.... just making sure you son gets some seat time before going balls out... I bought a 200" front engine dragster with a hanna body... took it out and run the shit out of it a couple times.. while in the pits, the guy that used to drive it said to me, your getting some good 60' times...... then said... have you seen the front tires yet???? you're gonna leaving that hard.... the very next pass, I stood that fucker straight up.....I was like now what... before , the body would flex and carry the tires about a foot of the ground through low gear,,, when I could see the front tires it was too late....any way,... I guess we all live and learn....

Few more pics. 170hrs on the clock, salt water filtration, cb radio and outdated stereo, through transom w/selectable underwater View attachment 1019356 View attachment 1019357 View attachment 1019358 diverter(disconnected), teague blown 509ci w/50hrs, XR drive, trim tabs, hydraulic steering, gauges need rehab, bench and hatch could use new upholstery, electric driver and copilot seats, electric hatch, glass has spider cracks but is solid, minor fiberglass repair could be done but not necessary

How does salt water filtration work ? Never heard of such a thing. Nice boat

I’ve never seen it before.. looks like it just needs a paint job and he’s good to go though!

I was thinking the same thing or hell wrap it in all white and it looks brand new.

If you are referring to the Gorge incident in August of 2007. That boat was located in late 2008 in a storage facility in Havasu. Boat had no checkers but was white with black and red graphics. Was a 29’ fever as well.
Different incident, 2010 in front of Havasu Landing Casino, boat hit someone being pulled on a towable and ran. People claimed it was a red and white Fountain. Never solved.

I worked on that one too. Still a cold case. I handled a lot of possible sightings after that but nothing ever turned up.

I quoted the other because they mentioned a jet ski incident.
