So we just purchased a home in Tempe. The immediate use will be for our son and his roommates as he/they attend(s) ASU and then when our kids are done with college, we will decide whether or not to sell the house and purchase in Flagstaff, Parker or Havasu. The kids are all extremely respectful and raised well with good values, morals and ethics (not your typical everyone gets a trophy California kids). The neighbors were all extremely polite and came over to introduce themselves to us. The neighbor to the right is a widow who raised 3 boys and a daughter so we had a lot in common and won't be bothered with college kids next door. The kids met her and let her know that anytime she needs help with anything, they're on it. The neighbors to the left are elderly as well and have lived there for 50 years. They can't hear a thing so no worries there. The daughter and son in law were over and introduced themselves and they were both great as well. He's a History prof at ASU and he teased with the kids. Cool dude. The neighbor directly across in the cul de sac came over and asked about who is occupying the house. Told him about the kids and then he asked where we are from...LOL. This is where the conversations always went south with a few exceptions. We told him San Diego. He said Texas right? No, California. With that, he said nothing more, turn on his heel and walked away. Wife and I both gave each other a puzzled look and started cracking up. He glanced back and I offered "we bleed red, not blue if that helps", he smiled and kept walking. Great weekend none the less. Had dinner down at Culinary Dropout which was fun and some big Monsoon storms that gave us a great show. Safe to say, I love AZ.

People on the right can and continue to be their own worst enemies. Judging before they get to know someone & Always willing to fuck someone out of a buck while hiding behind "you must hate capitalism".

I see it with the gun crowd especially. A lot of what we call" Neck beards" here in AZ.

I read the porn chick brandi love who's apparently conservative got kicked out of a TPUSA event. This is not how we bridge gaps.......

Not excusing this guy but things are pretty heated here right now due to this possible election fraud/Theft. People are feeling disenfranchised and lied to.

I think they are just cautious. Where I live it’s all red. Until they see your actions, they watch from a distance. Most of my neighbors are 30 plus year escapees from California. They are the worst because they don’t want the area turning to the place they left.

Welcome to the neighborhood! That guy probably just moved to AZ a year ago. He obviously is politically ignorant because his representative for the 9th district is Greg Stanton a Democrat. And my guess is all of his state representation from Tempe is also democrats. So when he said "we" he must be talking about someplace else.

A-Hole Neighbors exist everywhere. I once bought a home in Anaheim Hills. While there, just after closing, the cops show up and detain me for breaking into the home even though there was no sign of forced entry and I had a key. My friend they kind of just let him hang out, no cuffs on or anything. After about an hour, I am able to furnish proof that I belong there. Neighbor walks up and says "well, by looking at him I never would have thought that"...Well I was dressed in a damn suit! Must have been the brown skin. My friend who they let just hang out (you'd think an accessory to burglary) was white. I get it, I've dealt with this kinda crap before.

No apology or anything from cops or neighbors. The captain who arrived on the scene wouldn't even shake my hand when I gave him benefit of the doubt that he was just doing his job.

2-3 days later I'm back. I look outside from living room window and and another neighbor his taking down my lic plate. I walk out to him and ask what's up, He says he's calling the cops on me for burglary, so you can imagine that I get heated. Another neighbor comes out, doesn't make anything better, now the entire cul-de-sac is outside and finally someone says to leave me alone because I own the house. The old man who was taking down my plate # rudely asks if I was going to move into the house and I replied with a big smile, "No. The city just approved the home for multi family section 8. I have 4 families from Santa Ana moving in! I'm really excited"

None of the neighbors ever talked to me again, I flipped the house.

While my crew was there I encouraged them to play mariachi music everyday as loud as they wanted!

I took no offense to it at all and completely understand the sentiment. My wife and I both have a good sense of humor. :D Actions always speak louder than words so we'll just let things play out. We're not bringing the typical CA leftists voting ideas with us. Our sons were raised with the same conservative, religious, hard work pays off, Americans who love America ideals we have and were raised with.

It's strange because every kid my son has introduced me to and especially all of those on the waterski team, are conservative. I understand the college districts are usually more blue than red but in this case, I'm surprised.

It's funny, my youngest son who is a boyscout came and asked me what I thought if he decided to become a democrat. I said, "that's fine...we'll have some spirited debates and conversations but the choice is yours." I told him when you're young, you can afford to be idealistically misguided for a very short time. :D He said, well I'm young and have a heart so I'll be a democrat. I said "great!"...when you get older and you're not a Republican, you won't have a brain." Happily he was teasing me about being a democrat.

I have been here for 30 years and while Tempe/ASU has never been much of a republican strong hold, the district used to be heavily gerrymandered to carve out Awatukee/South Tempe and west chandler to be a republican district. Recently, with court cases and what not, District 9 is more of normal looking area on a map and Awatukee/S Tempe/Chandler got lumped in with Tempe/ASU.

He could be an independent and try to hook up with either R or D ASU girls... that would be my strategy.

Looked this stuff up...

Love is a self-described conservative and Republican who supported Donald Trump and "voted for Bill Clinton back in the day".[12] She has written articles for The Federalist, a conservative online magazine.[12][13]

Love saw herself banned from a Florida conference by the conservative student organization Turning Point USA, to which she was originally welcomed as an "Adult VIP.” Conservatives and others denounced her presence at a conference that minors would also attend.[14]

I would be happy to have a neighbor like him. Don’t see the problem.

Probably because I would do the same thing. 😬

Neck beards are the dudes waiting on the ammo shipment at a store so they can clean it all out then re-list somewhere at a 200% mark up. We've seen them do this on everything from ammo, BCG's, uppers, lower parts kits. etc.... Typically they match the description above to T.

Well... since I don't believe you @Tamalewagon live in District 9 and your kid can choose to continue to vote his "home" district (San Diego) instead of Tempe. Basically, you don't have a vote and it doesn't matter! If your kid does choose to vote Tempe while a student living here might want to know if his vote is more important in SanDiego vs a low probably R vote in Tempe.

My Daughter goes to U of A in Tucson and I have her vote up here in her Home District, instead of throwing away her vote in Tucson. One day maybe she will figure out what I am doing... LOL.

I live right near the border of Tempe and Mesa. Neighbors are both new and long term in my area, but I am surrounded by CNN liberals. We all get along well enough and look after each other’s homes and don’t talk politics. So we keep it neighborly and make it work.

Having said that, I am in the process of converting the Mesa home to a VRBO property as we spend more time at our new home in Maricopa with our very red neighbors. It is going to be interesting in about 30 days when the home hits the short-term rental market. This home features a diving swimming pool, spa and lighted corn hole on the backside of the property. My wife and I are on the fence about informing the Mesa neighbors of our plan at this point and expect there will be some resistance once they see traffic coming and going. Oh well…. You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Especially Libs. 😉

I hear stories like this.. but I gotta be honest I grew up in Carlsbad which literally was 1000:1 white.. in some of the richest whitest neighborhoods and could never see something like this playing out in any of the places I lived.

I'm in Mesa not far from Tempe border as well. Have an interesting neighborhood where most people didn't outwardly support a candidate but if they did it was about 50/50 Trump/Biden signs in lawns. Even saw one house that was fractured with a Trump flag flying and a Biden sign in a bedroom window.

College students are allowed to vote from their home address or their campus address... But they only get to vote one or the other. It's not anything fraudulent and has been that way as long as I can remember.

I am a college student - should I register at home or where I go to school?
The choice is legally yours. You have dual residency, so you can register back home or on campus as long as you don't register to vote in both states. You can use our Voter Registration Tool to register to vote in less than 2 minutes.

doesn’t have to marry em.. lol. When I was in college after I broke up with my long term gf from home.. I majored in short term gf’s

I would never dissuade him from having fun. I do try to get him to become a little more tolerant of the left so you can have a good conversation without thinking they are the enemy.

Interesting enough no physical signage or banners on my street for either party, other than the POW flag at the corner home owned by a veteran. Like I said, we keep it civil on my block, but I would venture to guess the block is a 50/50 split of Dems and Republicans based on the folks driving and walking with a 😷.

Politicians and special interest groups have done a great job of dividing the citizens in the US.

It seems like so many people have identity issues, a bitch-on about something and wear their heart on the sleeves to the point of nauseam
LOL, break the wrist and walk away.

I have lived in the same neighborhood with the same neighbors for over 25 years. My neighbors directly across the street are Republican committee organizers. Historically, they place lawn signs every election. This past election they posted ZERO signs, but were still active as the local reps.... My next door neighbor of 25+ years is the retired senior judge of Gilbert muni Court. Typically posts the signs, but this year not a single sign.

I have 2 theories for this.

Either people were afraid to post their political leanings over fear of retribution, or neither candidate earned enough credibility with them to earn a sign.

Realistically probably a combination of both.

People trash yard signs now regardless of party.

It has become totally acceptable.

Great weekend none the less. Had dinner down at Culinary Dropout which was fun and some big Monsoon storms that gave us a great show. Safe to say, I love AZ.

Since nobody else has said it. Did you notice quite a few of the women who work at the Culinary Dropout in Tempe are heavy promoters of "free the nipple" clothing styles??
So its not all bad ... lol

I hear stories like this.. but I gotta be honest I grew up in Carlsbad which literally was 1000:1 white.. in some of the richest whitest neighborhoods and could never see something like this playing out in any of the places I lived.
It happens. When I lived in Alta Loma I had a deputy flip a u-turn on my street, follow me out to the main street and light me up. He then proceeds to ask me why I was idling through "those homes up there"...
Response was calm, but I explained I lived there. He took my license and reg, and went back to the car. Comes back, hands me my stuff and says I should get a new plate, the reflective material was flaking badly, "but I won't write you up for it today."

My truck was a 10 year old obs 7.3 crew cab, straight piped...I idled through the area every morning to not piss off the neighborhood. When I was roofing, I was darker than most full blood border brothers, and I did drive the oldest truck on the street.

"Profiling" happens. The only thing that pissed me off was being late to the job site.

Wow sounds like a bunch of bigots. Just curious, how old were you at the time? I know you look kind of young for your age and you started in the Real Estate business rather young too. When I bought my first home I was 19 and I had the next door neighbor show up with his Smith & Wesson. I worked swing shit, so I was there kind of late checking out the property with a friend. I had the garage door open and he just walked in the garage as we were there just talking.

He was an African American male that looked to be in his early sixties. He said he was a Probation/Parole Officer and made some sort of comment about his brothers Smith and Wesson then brandished his weapon. After a while of him being a dick and me explaining that I had purchased the property and I worked nights he finally left my garage. I didn't feel that he was racists but I felt it was more of a jealousy or age discrimination type thing. He was probably thinking how does a 19 afford a home next to me when I am 60 years old. Even though I didn't have a funny come-back at the time, the joke was still on him since I rented the property to a section 8 family. ;)

🤫 Culinary Dropout is closed

Glad to hear the house is in a good cul de sac. The days of driveway bond fires, potlucks and cookouts are long gone in my parents Tempe cul de sac but everybody remains tolerant regardless of their political/religious beliefs.

I too live on the Mesa/Tempe/Chandler border. Thankfully, most around my immediate area are Republican and I saw more Trump signs than Biden ones. Sounds like we need to meet for a cocktail, or two or three and commiserate!

There is no rule that says you have to be friends with all your neighbors. He is probably a good neighbor to have compared to other options out there..

I'm 3rd generation Arizonan, my kids are 4th. Family was here before it was a state farming in Lehi..No, the family was never mormon. A negative response to people moving in from liberal areas is to be expected. This state has NEVER been liberal and to see it go the way of communism isn't going to happen without a fight. Sadly people from outside states are assumed they are a part of the problem instead of more of the solution.

What would be the Reason to not want to be
Friends" with your Neighbors? Sure seems Odd that you would move in with a "Chip" on your shoulder and then Expect, WHAT?:(

You nailed it on the head in the last sentence. The math doesn't add up that it's solely an issue of Californians moving to AZ that swung us from Red to Blue
