Anyone have first have experience with 30amp service with 2 ac’s.

I’m trying to talk my wife out of a 40’ 3slide jobber in favor of a momentum 28g. But they only sell the momentum bumper pull with 30amp even with the second ac.

I’m scared this will be an issue.

shit I may have even asked ya’ll this. I’m going crazy trying to find the right unit.

Unless you are talking about something less than a 13.5 - It will most likely be an issue without soft start kits for sure, the hot restart is the killer load, you get 2 of those happening concurrently you'll pop a 30 amp breaker.

Supposedly they have acs with soft starts and somehow it automatically drops load so the breaker don’t trip.

I’m reading that I might get away with both ac’s being in but not even the fridge can be on electric.

60k for a trailer and I have to pick and choose what I run sucks.

I can run my 2 AC's on 30amps. I have one those "things" on my control panel and tell the coach how many amps I have coming in. Only time I've had issues is at Big Bend where their power is a little janky, and I trip their 30amp breaker repeatedly Anywhere else I haven't had any issues running on 30amp service..

Should be good as the fridge will be on propane and will not be running on electric when running the gen.

You might not be able to use both airs and the mirco though.

I run 2 13.5AC’s on 30amp. I added the softstarts to reduce risks
Not issues

What else can you run with both ac’s going?

when running on the gen (5500 EFI), I turn the front AC off when we run the microwave. Besides that, never been an issue. To be honest most summer camping we are wired in, and use gen when traveling point A to B and usually only run rear AC when eating lunch. Very limited boondocking in summer.

when plugged into a site for an extended period of time, I run the refrig and feeezer off electric and have that wired to plug directly into 20amp breaker on pedestal. Don’t worry about microwave when plugged into pedestal. I also have an EMS on the trailer.

Only time I pull close to 30amp is when everything is running through trailer and microwave cycles up and wife hits the microwave at same time

No issues running a 1350s on 30amp

This little EMS thingy here monitors current and will redirect power while running 2 a/c on 30amp...

It will temp shut down compressor on 1 a/c if I use the micro and so on...

You can upgrade the panel to a 50amp. Not sure what todays pricing is.

A 28ft trailer will seldom need both AC's running.

Mfg installed....

I'd check what the cost would be to have a EMS installed... may be worth it

Another option, if you're handy at electrical (or have a "guy") is to rewire one a/c to bypass the coach and run that a/c directly into the 20a plug on the campground pedestal.

I installed a second a/c on my SILs 5er. replaced the bedroom vent with an a/c and it plugs directly into a 20 amp with an extension cord. Completely bypassing the coach electronics. like Bpracing did.. won't work when dry camping and using a genny unless you can switch over to run all on genny

I considered converting to 50A but anything I read looks fairly complicated and not worth it for me.. I have a simple mind

I agree, my 28 weekend warrior needed both running to keep it comfortable past 100ish. And I'm thinking about adding a 3rd to my 40 genesis for those 110+ days

We had a weekend warrior 3705, 2 roof top ac’s and added a portable ac ducted out of the fresh air vent that was low on the wall.

Reading this is real interesting to me, I have always been under the impression that with 30amp you are stuck at 1 AC unit. We were at havasu landing the other weekend and were struggling with our 30ft rv with just one unit.

Those of you that have added a unit to your 30amp setup, ballpark cost?

I will add the 3rd to the rear vent and just run an extension cord to the park power. It will be out of the way on the roof, and I don't need it anywhere else but the river.

just for snicks whats the brand of 13.5's ? Is it coleman or dometic?

I want to look up the running amp draw and see where it is according to the manufacturer.

For reference, I can run all 3 ac units on the 5500 generator no problem, as long as the electric hot water heater element is off. I think you would be fine, just remember to kick one of the AC compressors off before using the microwave.

An inline surge protector/voltage monitor is always a good idea, especially if you're going to be pulling a bunch of power from the park supply.

My RV has two 15k A/C's. When ambient temp was under 100, I could run them both off a 30a circuit here at the house. I generally set one 2-3 degrees different from the other, so they don't try to start at the same time. Since it's been over 100, I've popped the 30a once or twice. Bought this Camco "Maximizer" and ran an extension cord from the house (different circuit) to make up the difference. No problems since.

My 30a system runs both of my units through the intellitec system.
I took this screenshot a while back because I wanted to see what the amperage pull was when we ran 1 ac unit down the road and this is what I got. Mind you, fridge was set to AC, living room A/C was on High and we had 2 tower fans going at the same time.

I’ve also retrofitted a portable standalone unit to run and exhaust out of the passenger side window for those days that hit triple digits

I’ve been meaning to do this mod but I got way too lazy before the season started and the heat ramped up. My current setup is working pretty well so I’ll probably tackle this towards the end of the year

Ive run both my 15k units off 30 amp. They key is to make sure the batteries are fully charged, inverter is off, passengers keep lights an other 12v accessories to a minimum. And turn the temp control below where they will shut off and cycle. I've metered mine at 12 to 13 amps steady state

You should see if Momentum can put in a 50amp panel in the 28’er with (2) 15K BTU A/C’s. I’m guessing they’re running (2) 13.5K BTU A/C’s off of (1) 30 Amp Breaker? That’s fine up to about 95F. When you go north of that it’s going to be hot af in there! J/S

We run two AC's, a refer and two TVs in our old 36'er, but we're also on a 50 amp. Another thing to consider would be the insulation in the RV. Our old faithful gets so cold that we have to turn down the AC units to keep comfortable. We are in Parker, with little to no shade nearby. We have a generator but have never had to use it. 🤷‍♂️

It’s how they build the 28G. I don’t think they even give a 50amp option.

I don’t get why trailers and rvs don’t just do 50 amp. The cost is almost nothing in comparison between the two. I can run both our furrion 15.5s off one 30a leg of our generator no issues. But that’s just the acs. No cooktop no fridge etc. we also have soft starts. If you were gonna do it I’d set the temp to 60 so they aren’t clicking on/off the whole time. That’s the killer if they both try to start up at the same time.
