5th wheel with new body style Super Duty

Well I ordered my rails for my 5th wheel hitch. Hope to install it next weekend. Wondering how high I should mount the head above the bed floor?

We went and looked at the Genesis Toyhauler yesterday. The salesman mentioned my truck might be to high....

The fiberglass portion of the Genesis 5th wheels are shoulder high. My truck is just below my shoulder ( I didn’t have a tape handy ) im
5’10”

Who is towing with a new body style Ford and do you have clearance issues? Also how high is the hitch head above the bed?

I don’t have a trailer yet. But I sent my wish list to Jim Tuck at Epic he is going look into getting me one or ordering.

I would probably just mount it on the highest setting for now, then reassess when you hook up the trailer. I know that in the new GMCs and Chevys the bed is taller, so that reduces the amount of clearance you have between the fifth wheel and the bed. I've already hit it a few times and cracked the fiberglass cap and slightly dented one side of the bed, so you're probably going to want all the height that you can get.

On my 17’ (stock truck) I have my hitch all the way up and the pin box all the way down. I have 10”+ between the bed rails and the bottom of the trailer.

FYI: Genesis sit very tall. I’m like 13’-4” to top of AC.

My Ram has a 3.25 inch lift. I haven't had any issues

Nice. You are barely sagging you must have sir bags right? I ordered air lift 5000’s yesterday. Since I have a 2.5 leveling kit I think it’s gonna look like I’m doing a wheelie lol.

2018 F350 2.5” leveled on 35” tires towing a 2020 Momentum 381M. Using the B&W on the highest and most forward setting gives me 8” of bed rail clearance with the trailer level.

Running sumo springs in the rear not air bags and I sit exactly 2” low in the rear, was dead level prior to the 2.5” level kit.

Yes, needed bags cause it sagged pretty good and more then I expected, but to have these new trucks ride smoother empty they have progressive spring rates and it’s a long way to those overloads.

I usually run 55/60 psi in the bags.

Very happy with the sumo’s or another option is timbren’s. Yes they are a longer progressive bump stop basically. Set it and forget it and they don’t limit my wheel travel which I need for boondock camping. Mine are on the highest setting which allows my suspension to just engage the factory overload springs.

I ran timbrens on my Ram 2500, I didn’t like the way the bags would fit/install on the coil spring trucks. Night and day difference when towing my Toyhauler. A bit stiff unloaded once they make contact on the big bumps. I see a lot of guys take them off when not towing heavy, takes 15-30 minutes. Friend of mine had to put a set on his 18 F250 to help with hitch weight on his 37GSXL. He had plenty of clearance, truck was stock height with an Anderson hitch.
